Re: email through my PC
Hello, some of the PB170 had a internal modem. If you have one use this to receive your mails. Probably you can get one somewhere out there. If not i would say this is close to impossible. With 7.0.1 you will hardly get the same mail client for PC and the Mac. I am not sure if System 7.0.1 can allready read DOS floppy disks. There is no PCMCIA slot for a memorycard (which would be a cool solution). If you would have an older desktop Mac you could build a serial network, but you have a PC. Use the modem or try to get one. You will be fine as long as nobody mails you a movie or lots of photo. Okay, seeing that I'm still having trouble getting my PB170 to let me use it for email, I was wondering if there is anyway that I could simply transfer emails back and furth between my PC and my mac using either floppies or stargate. All I want is to be able to upload the email messages to my mac in the morning, answer them on the move throughout the day and then transfer them back to the PC to be sent. The version of Eudora I have is I believe 2.something (I'm not home right now, so I can't check). I'm using OS 7.0.1 if that matters. Thanks for any help. Colin the computer illiterate Colin, Your question is amazingly similar to something I was trying to do last year, and although I found a solution, it was too complex (too many steps) to continue doing for long. But as they say, there has to be a way...! I think the first thing you should do is find out what version of Eudora you're using on the Mac, and also if it has a function to Import or Export mail. Also, if you're using Outlook Express on your PC under Windows, it has the ability to import and export... it saves them as .eml files, which are just text files, but contain the complete email header information. You might also consider using Eudora on your PC, since there may be a version that would be compatible with imported or exported files; you'd have to see... I know that's not much help, but you sure have an interesting idea! Best of luck, and keep us aware of your progress. Rob -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
