Re: quick tip: netscape 7 hangs on a 3400 ? (works now)

2003-06-06 Thread jim page

yeah, guess its one of those personal prefs

one other NS 7 feature i use is grouped bookmarks. there are six pages that
i open up when i kick off NS in the morning. NS 7 allows you to group them
into one bookmark and then from one click all six pages open up in separate
TAB'd windows

can then just click on the TAB to get to the one to work with

not sure if mozilla has the group'd bookmarks feature or not

Mozilla has, as far as I can tell, everything that Netscape has except
the advertising, the pre-exempted sites in the pop-up blocking
preferences (If you disable popups in Mozilla, they all stop. If you do
so in Netscape, there's a list of about 20 sites, including Mozilla,
AOL, Wal-mart and a bunch of other retailers where the popups still
work...you have to go into the advanced section to remove them) and
spell-checking in the Mail program, for which I'd use Newer's Spell
Tools anyway .

There is a Mozilla Spellchecker project:
but they don't offer one for OS9 or OSX
last I checked (I'm not getting to the site right now)

Smaller windows?? Only if you open a gazillion and hit the edge of the
screen. But if you open a gazillion, how readable are the gazillion tabs?
My browsing habit is to open perhaps a dozen articles from a single page I'm
reading and if I open them in the desired order, there's no hunting for
windows -- you just click on the last one (or use that key combo that I can
never remember).

Although I've downloaded NS 6 & 7 (I've got an iMac running 9.2.1 at work),
I guess I'm still left scratching my head about how the tabs could be so
drastically different than what I already do. But alas, I think we're
stretching the 'once-removed' rule for too long, so I'm going to let that be
that for this thread. (That is, until I possibly encounter a problem trying
one of these out on my 3400... ;-) )

quick tip: netscape 7 hangs on a 3400 ? (works now)

2003-06-04 Thread jim page

i was able to get Netscape 7 up an running on my 3400, began trashing Prefs
until it worked, thx

i agree bout the TAB'ed windows, don't knock it till you try it. no smaller
windows each new window and trying to find the open window you want

quick tip, NS7, IE5.1 and NS4.8 all offer menu and keyboard shortcuts to
cycle you to the next browser window/tab. easy to walk through the stuff
you have open.

being the lazy person i am i programmed one of the buttons on my
kensington trackball with the keyboard shortcut so the next window/tab is
just one click away
