Yes, what I wanted was a counter a la Apple mail. I looked into mail ticker
on version tracker and that looks neat.
Thanks.

Well, the reason a lot of us got PM is that it doesn't "do" html. If you
mean that replying to HTML e-mail thing [I think that was you that asked]
there are two Apple Scripts that do that, one if you have BBEdit [not
light] and one that does it without that. Someone else will have to give
you the web-site where the script archive is.

I am not familiar with those programs [that is I know their names but not
how they work] but you can send to bunches of people in two ways in Power
Mail. You can make a group, which is aliases of addresses in your address
book already; or you can make a folder in which case [I think] the
addresses are only in that folder. Both of these are accessed via the
Address book, the double face is for groups and the folder, not
surprisingly, is for folders.

Also you can synchronize with the Apple Address book.

I understand. I'm a fairly new PM user so I don't know how responsive
the developers are to making changes to the software.

One of the things that I'm really impressed with PM is the speed of
searches. Very impressive.

There are a few things I would like to see: 1. the ability to handle HTML
in messages. 2. The ability to send to more than one contact when
selecting them from Now and Up to Date/ Contact. Just my thoughts.

Re: New mail alert?

2003-05-03 Thread Marlyse Comte

I got a little freebee which sits in the menubar - mail ticker (got it
from version tracker).

it will display a little icon in the menu bar (osX) with amount of new
messages (resettable) and if I click on it I see the exact amount per
account and title/sender.

This way I KNOW I don't have to go and read if it tells me 17 new
messages from my list account (i.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED]), but if it
comes from my business account ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), I can
instantly open PM (via mail ticker) and get the message then.

It also helps me in those (for me very rare) situations that I have to
delete a message from the server, as it allows me to do this.

Great utility. Only drawback (for me) - sometimes it will crash/hang
while checking my 3rd account (out of 4) and thus block the popaccount.
quitting and relaunching handles that, and nothing I will complain about
for the amount of service I've gotten already out of it as a freebee.

I think what people want is a number of new mails received such as
Apple's Mail does. [In a circle right in the icon while it is in the
dock.] The animation does fine for me. But perhaps they want to wait
until there are, say, 10 new e-mails before they bother looking at any.

Not exactly sure if this is what you're looking for but in the
preferences I can set PM for new mail notification with sound, animate
the icon in the dock, display alert, and/or open the "recent mail" window

Larry, thanks for answering. Don't know why but it just started working,
right after I got around to loading in my address book. Not knowing why
is almost as bad as it not working.

Still wrestling with importing about a zillion files. Otherwise just
getting down to business, learning what I can and can't do with PM.

Thanks,

Re: Attachment wierdness

2003-05-03 Thread Marlyse Comte

well, it's a workaround and not ideal: when forwarding, forward a copy to
yourself. it will come back to you and you will need to remember that you
have seen it already and not to reforward it and blablabla. not elegant.

guess the basic question is, why so complicated and forwarding to an
archive account? why not just an apple script which sets it to a specific
account and filters it into its own folder right where you are?

when you forward, it does not quote btw, it only quotes when you hit
reply. but it does put in a FWD and the header/footer info of begin/end
forwarded message.

most easy way would be to have only the archive account download and
DELETE emails from the server. So you just get the files, and
attachments, i.e. download them but no forwarding, nothing. When you are
on your archive system, you download AND delete the messages from the
server. can be set in the preferences. even set to delete messages older
than etc. I use this system with my powerbook and desktop machine and
that works well.

Well, there is another little trick that you might like. If you want to
sort by last name you can open the address book and in View Options you
can add the column last name. Then you can sort by this column but move
the window over so you can't see the last name column.
