I encountered the same problem when trying to create the new search index.
PM probably 'hangs' on one or two corrupted HTML-messages. (At least it
was in my case).
I reported this problem and my workaround on this list on July 7. For
this workaround you need to access (a copy of) your database with the
previous pm version.

this is what I wrote:

Same problem here.
In my case it appeared to be two corrupted HTML-messages which I received
on 15-01-2001.
(I could read them at that time with pm3 but they somehow got ... well I
don't know, I never opened them since)

Here is how I pinpointed them (a bit tedious, but it works):

Try to export your mail database (I used eudora mailbox format, but
tabulated text will do also)
Most probably the export-proces hangs at the same messages which concern
the index-problem. Force quit pm and examine the exportfile to see where
it has stuck. If your mail database is in one large folder it might help
to export the database in handy proportions by selecting parts and doing
an export on the selected messages only.

If all's well you know now which messages to delete.

In my case I deleted them by crtl-click on them and select 'Move to mail
trash' as pm hanged itself when trying to read the messages (or select
them in 3-pane view).

(for Jérôme: these are the same messages I reported to you in my
Meiringen report, Indexing gave the message 'An error occurred not enough
memory' which kept on coming after clicking it away; I had to do a force-
quit to bail out)

PowerMail 4.2 and pc viruses

2003-09-06 Thread Patrick Blum

Hi,
Just to say, dowloaded PM 4.2 yesterday. The install was very smooth. No
problems at all updating from 4.1.3 on a G4 Mac. This version is
definitely faster and the new search works really well. Great app. Thanks.

On another topic, I agree with Matt Slot regarding nuisance attachments:

>One thing I'd really like is the ability to filter messages based on the
>filename of the attachment -- specifically .pif to get rid of the trojans
>that keep filling my inbox.

I still can't get scripts to deal with this properly. Probably my poor
scripting. I also found this on MacInTouch on Wednesday.

It does what it says but seems to knock PM and my system around resulting
in a couple of system events crashes, so I've put it aside for a while.

I have Textsoap 3.2.2 & I see 27 options in Powermail/services/textsoap
although there are twice as many when I am using it as a standalone.

I've recently install 4.2 as well but without the ability to save all

Powermail doesn't make such a good IMAP client. Any ideas on how to
have all mail stored on the remote server?

2003-09-06 Thread Kurt Jefferson

Hi,

I'm using PowerMail 4.2 on an eMac running Mac OS X (10.2.6) and have a
quick question about TextSOAP 3.3.1.

TextSOAP is the program from unmarked software that allows you to clean
up text.

When I highlight text in the body of a PowerMail 4.2 e-mail message and
then use TextSOAP (via the Services Menu) there are only 5 options
available to me: SCRUB, Spaces, Forwarding, MIME Encoding and NetText.

Is there an AppleScript available that would allow me to use all of
TextSOAP's features with PowerMail 4.2?

Or am I missing out on an option that would "turn on" all of TextSOAP's
menu items available through Apple's built-in Services menu?

TextSOAP comes with plug-ins for BBEdit, Eudora and Entourage. I'm hoping
to use PowerMail 4.2 and still get the same capability from TextSOAP that
the plugins offer those other programs.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Marlyse - I understood what you meant in your first mail even if
it wasn't what you wrote.

BUT does this mean that ALL the old files in this folder are just my data
& independent of the move from the beta to the final? I was concerned
that there may be stuff in here that also needs to be upgraded. I suppose
I should just sling the new folder, keep the old one & see what happens...

IMAP Sent Folder

2003-09-06 Thread Noah Bubenhofer

Hi

I'm using Powermail for more than two years yet (G4, OS X.2, Powermail
4.2). Until now, I configured my mail server as pop account. Now I've
changed to IMAP. So far, no problems. Now: I'd like to save my sent mails
into a folder on the server. It seems, that this isn't possible in
Powermail, because in the preferences, tab "general", I only can choose
local folders to save sent mail in. I tried the same in Netscape 7, there
it is possible to do that.

I'd appreciate it very much if anyone has an idea, how to solve this problem.

Thanks a lot,

SURE !!!

(AFAIK such exact folder gets created each time a new user environment
gets created).

NO

this is where your database, addressbook and preferences are stored!
replacing would delete all your data.

either >> menu >> file >> database >> change user environment >> select
former power mail folder
or
move all important data (database, addressbook, attachment folder...)
into the new folder (while PM is not launched!) and then launch PM again.

Same question here. I kept a backup with version 4.1.3 just in case there
was a database meltdown during the beta. Firing up 4.2 final, it auto-
located _that_ database instead of the one I was using for the beta. Now
I've switched back to the beta folder, but I didn't have any database
difficulties during the beta... unless someone has better advice on this
point! :)

No Japanese PM4.2?

Sorry if this has been mentioned already. I am behind reading listserv.

I just installed PM4.2 release, and surprised Japanese support is not
there. Release note has no mention of what happened.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Hello,

The first thing I recommend is that you disable indexing immediately in
preferences when starting the application. We do know about the loop
condition, but not why it happens.

Eventually (but unfortunately not in the next few days) we woould like to
reproduce this with your database out here.

Thanks Karel, that was the problem - now fixed.

Now I have another!

I've downloaded the new 4.2 final. Running it (system 10.2.6) creates a
folder 'Powermail Files' in my 'Mail' folder. There is already a
'Powermail Files4.2b' folder in which all the scripts, address data & old
mail are stored. The question is can I simply replace the new 'Powermail
Files' folder with the old 'Powermail Files4.2b' folder or is there
stuff in the new folder that has been changed from the old beta & should
be used in preference to the versions left from 4.2b8?

Thanks

Just got the PM 4.2 release announcement, and I believe there is an error.

In one place it says:

 PowerMail 4.2 is:
Free for registered PowerMail 4.x users
  $ 29 for registered PowerMail 3.x users
  $ 49 for new customers

but then later I read:

PowerMail 4 is available immediately on-line as a 30 day demo version.
   - Degressive licensing prices start at US$ 49 per seat
   - Upgrades from PowerMail 4 are US$ 29
