Keep the one that holds your "Message Database". Take a look at the size
of the database and keep the folder that holds the biggest one.

I have restarted the box (MOSX 10.2.6 - PM 4.2).

I have rechecked my settings:
--Setup > mail schedulings and locations > "also use this account when
replying" = unchecked for both accounts
--Setup > mail schedulings and locations > "always use SMTP server" =
unchecked for both accounts
--Setup > mail accounts > identity tab > "use default settings" =
unchecked for both accounts

I select a message that was sent to my corporate account, and hit reply:
my private (this) account is selected by the application.

I select a message that was sent to my private account, and hit reply:
my private (this) account is selected by the application.

Based on the information currently offered by this list, I have to assume
that this is a bug. Where do I report it?

Sorry, Richard, but that doesn't bring me any joy.

I had earlier used the "Also use this account when replying" option,
which I have now unchecked. However, I haven't ever enabled the SMTP option.

I will re-start the computer and report back. From what I have read so
far, I am in a 'bug' situation, or am stupid... and either are realistic
possibilities ;-)

It is NOT an option you pick, it is the default unless you have
your "Mail Schedulings and Locations" "Locations" tab
set for Always use SMTP server:

OR

The "Also use this account when replying" checked for the default
account in the same Scheduling and Locations window.

Either of these options will override the reply with account
information from the account the message was addressed to default.

Good guess... and I DID have that option selected for the 'personal'
account... but unchecking it has made no difference. Still goes to that
default account on replies to messages not sent to that account (even
quit/relaunched PM). As a test, I checked the other account.. and test
replies thereafter used that account. Unchecked, and immediately all
replies 'default' to the personal acc't again.

Check the following:

In "Mail Schedulings and Locations" (under "Setup" menu) look at the
"Locations" tab of your chosen schedule. Make sure the following is
*UN*checked:
"Also use this account when replying"

There might be other modifiers to watch but I think you'll find that the
above is the most likely source of your problem.

Rebuild the index from the _File_ menu: "File > Database > Rebuild

Rebuild the search index from the file / database menu.

Error: "Can't open the index file"

2003-11-10 Thread Cap Schwartz

Starting up PM (4.2.1, OS X 10.2.8) this morning I get this series of errors:
Can't open the index file.
An indexing error occurred
(index) Class=QIE; what=9; when=2 (index)
After I click my way through the errors, I find I cannot use the Script
"Delete Message Immediately". It opens, asks me for an OK, but then does
nothing. Periodically, PM quits unexpectedly. Whatever else may be
broken, I have not yet discovered.

Rebuilding the indices + low level rebuild hasn't fixed it, nor has a
fresh download of the application. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cap

Furthermore, if you are initiating the communication (rather than
replying), all you need to do is look to the upper-right of the New
Message window where you'll see the "Account" popup menu. Click on it to
see all of your mail accounts, then select the one you want displayed as
the Reply To address on your outgoing email.

I don't have any problems with multiple account replies.
Each account has it's own email address and outgoing mail server.
When I reply to an email the default is to reply with the account
information from the account the message was addressed to.

PowerMail Files folder....

2003-11-10 Thread Judith Beiss

I recently upgraded from PM 3+ to PM 4.2.1 and all went quite well until
today when some email message appears to have created havoc causing PM to
"expectedly quit" due to a Type 2 problem. Altho I immediately restarted
using the Command and Option key checking all but Message Compacting, and
then when PM crashed again, I trashed prefs, finally got all working well
by trashing the contents of Mail Trash.

Anyway, I now find I have two PowerMail Files folders in my Documents
folder: PowerMail 3 Files and PowerMail Files. I think this happened when
I trashed the prefs before restaring PM. I've moved the address data
base, message and set-up databases to the new PowerMail Files from PM
3Files so all my material is saved and operating.

Question: do I need both these folders in my Documents folder? If not,
which ought to go-- PM 3 Files or the much newer PM Files? What must I
check for before trashing one or the other?
