Re(2): PM 5 - database corrupted, no recovery? [u]
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your thoughts. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote Wed, 26 Jan 2005 12:18:04 -0500 In the end it came down to an issue of stability. Mail has it, PM doesn't. did you verify? The various experiences in our company showed durign the past few years that many email clients begin to suffer from stability problems, at least once the amount of emails/data reaches a certain size. With Claris Emailer I hit the 1 GB barrier a few years ago (and actually switched to PowerMail, kind of overnight...). Microsoft products are a non-option to me (they are simply too flakey too often). Eudora was a nightmare on Mac last time I checked. Anyone tried Apple Mail long enought to accumulate hundreds of thousands of emails? And still see smooth behavior? And what about searching (a huge plus in PM)? At least that is my experience, although Jerome of CTM Dev certainly tried to help. By now I think if CTM could add maximum stability to PowerMail they'd have an email client that significantly differentiates itself from any other client. Olaf
Re: why does mark as unread delete answered info? [u]
Agreed. If it's replied to, it should be marked as replied to, end of story. If it's later remarked as unread, fine; it should then show up as unread AND replied to. It is obviously NOT impossible for a message to be both unread and replied to, as it is possible remark messages as unread. There are only two reasons that I remark things as unread, generally: 1) So that I can clear out mail from the Recent Mail Window that I've already glanced at (or that is spam and thus pre-marked as read) whilst leaving some read messages in there for later attention. 2) As a way of 'Flagging' messages (that have been auto filed into folders) for later attention because I know that they are not going to be in the RMW indefinitely -- it only takes one restart of PM (eg. I install some software that requires a re-log-in) to clear that window. Being able to SELECTIVELY delete mail from the RMW would solve the first problem. Also, being able to flag messages would be very helpful to me. I know this issue has come up before and many people claimed to have no use for it, but I would find it a great bonus. Actually, this is what I would REALLY like: 1. The ability to flag messages. 2. For the recent Mail window to have a 'Remove Selected Messages' button. 3. For the Mail Browser to have 3 tabs: Normal browser, Recent Mail, and Flagged. I know Marlyse has, with myself, long been in favour of integrating the RMW into the browser as a tab, but having all flagged messages show up (wherever they are filed) in a *third* tab would really put the icing on the cake for me. Any thoughts, folks? It NEVER makes sense not to show a replied (and sent) message as not replied to. If it has been replied to it has been replied to, period. Re: Powermail does not scroll with mouse [u]
Yes, I've never found it possible to scroll an HTML message using the mouse scroll wheel (Logitech wired optical mouse). Ever since PM5, this disfunction has carried over to non-HTML messages if there is an HTML message open in any window. Eg. I have an HTML message on display in the Recent Mail Window, and a normal message on display in the 3-pane browser. As long as the HTML one is showing (even if it's hidden by other windows), the plain text one won't scroll using the scroll wheel. Irksome, but not cripplingly so. Hope this helps; Rick -- G5 2GHz x2 :: 2GB RAM :: 10.3.6 :: PM 5.1 :: 3 pane mode -- Original message: Received from Dr Dave on 26/1/05 at 9:06 am Try closing any message window displaying a html message, even if it's in the background. That works for me, and I can scroll again.

Funnily, I just had a similar issue a short time ago. It did only happen on the message pane, not the message list pane (I'm in three-pane mode). Finally, restarting my Mac solved it. I was trying out some software at that time, so maybe one of those had an effect. So it might well be not a PowerMail specific issue, but more a system issue. If I get this again, I'll see if I can determine the cause. One other thing comes to mind: You say you were using a cordless mouse - are you sure that the battery is still ok? When I get jerky mouse movements with my cordless mouse, it's usually that the battery is drained. Moving the receiver nearer to the mouse (or changing the batteries :-)) solves the issue. However, I have found that cordless mice (at least mine - a Logitech one) do not have the same smooth movement (esp. diagonally) than cable-bound mice (e.g. USB), so I'm not using them anylonger for my day-to-dy work. You were right, a new start brought the scrolling back. The V500 from Logitech is some days old, so the battery was no issue. The movement of this mouse BTW is smooth and ok for me. Thanks Urs
