Is it possible to put a space after the quote character like this
somewhere?

request for ability to choose search in these folders [u]

2005-01-27 Thread Mikael Byström

As another request I've been meaning to propose is the ability to be able
to choose the folder or folders to search in from the search window
itself. It's very cumbersome to have to scroll to a new folder every time
one needs change the folder to search in. I'd prefer a popup window with
the ability to choose several folders before closing it to continue the
search. So just a popup menu wouldn't cut it.

This is not in 2-pane view, but in the open incoming mail window. It's
typical to be looking at several messages in the inbox and wanting to
move them without the help of a mail filter to a folder.

I disagree with that blanket statement. I find PM very stable, but I had
one irrecoverable situation when my old machine suddenly stopped (not
froze, just physically stoppped), because of heat problems, while writing
to the DB . I'm not sure how many DB apps could recover from that.
I haven't heard that Mail is so stable as you suggest for keeping all
data intact, but I suppose the one message one file concept helps a bit.

What's really needed is a built in incremental backup feature. I tried to
write a script, but found no way of moving between folders, so the only
way would be to export only on basis of date. I do this by hand now.

No. I very seldom move anything to my 31 Folders because I use incoming
and outgoing filters. Everything sorts itself. Much easier and a lot more
comfortable than a context menu!

Hi Stephen,

In the end it came down to an issue of
stability. Mail has it, PM doesn't. At least that is my experience,

My experience is the opposite. If you use Apple Mail, be careful to
archive your mail regularly to prevent your mailbox from growing too
large. Otherwise you will lose mail randomly.

I have 112,000 messages in my PowerMail database. I wouldn't trust Apple
Mail with more than 50,000.

Whatever email client you use, you should back up your mail regularly if
it is important to you.

Best wishes,

Jeremy

Yes, And I use it all the time,. I would be grateful if this menu were
available also to quickly file OUTgoing messages. I have to close drag
those to the correct folders. Seems reasonable to me to make the filing
of outgoing messages just as easy as filing incoming messages.

Contextual menu for filing messages from list view would be great, and so
would a contextual menu to LABEL them.

But as excited as I am about this very important and useful features, I'm
even more interested in anything that can be done to strengthen the
durability of the PM database. Email is SUCH an important tool that I
need it to work and stay working no matter what!

I might add:
I'd love to have a context menu for 'move message to' a folder.

In two-pane view there is a popup menu below the tool bar for the message
to File in: with a list of all folders.

While not a contextual menu, it is fairly handy and quick to use.

Yes, dear God. I'm am consistently dumbfounded that this feature isn't
already in the app.
