Yes, I can. But I'm still no wiser as to what these check boxes actually DO!

I use 5.2b4 here (not 3) and it works. I had to confirm I wanted
tpotlight linking when PM upgraded the database.

If you didn't see this you may have to check the right setting
(preferences/indexing & spelling/ enable SL indexing)

Once this is done it may not be instant, on my side I had to send myself
a dumb email in which I inserted a nonexisting word, then when PM
indexed it SL started seeing it. (OTOH after this step, the next info
exchanges seem instant: get a mail, search for one of its keywords in
SL, it finds it immediately, in the very seconds after you got it)

Spotlight and Powermail

2005-05-01 Thread Geoff Roynon

I have just installed Tiger and was trying to get Spotlight to work with
my PowerMail database - I am running 5.2b3. I have rebuilt the indexes.

When I enter a word which I know is in some of the messages in my mail
database it is not found. When I enter "PowerMail" it finds 2406 entries
in the mail database - this is the number of distinct e-mails in the
database.

What else do I need to do to get this to work?

This isn't a Tiger-specific feature -- I'm still on 10.3.8 and I have
full access to the language sections of the Get Info box.

In fact I'm wondering wether this appears only in OSX 10.4 or earlier. I
didn't notice it either before, I was directed to it only in Tiger by
the PM beta...
Exploring other apps I come to think your reference language is
apparently *always* greyed, it seems not specific from the PM beta (in
which case the advice given in my alert box isn't really wise)

For what concerns unchecking languages I must say I don't know. Maybe
it's just a Tiger way to show the .lproj folders that beforehand one
could only discover by peeking into the application packet itself...

Well, if you're a fairly technical user, you might install CHUD:

and play with the application Shark, it can be used to identify where &
why things run slowly, you can even save its report and send it to a
developer.

2005-05-01 Thread Rick Lecoat

I had no idea that this information even appeared in the info window --
you really do learn a new thing every day!

I know this isn't strictly a PM question, but can anyone enlighten me as
to what the checkboxes in the Language section of Get Info activate or
deactivate? And what are the implications of deselecting everything
except English (which is the only language that I can make sense in)? if
it just deactivates spell checking in, say, German, then that's fine by
me as I don't type in German.

I'm really interested in this as these check boxes for selecting
langauges appear for (AFAIK) every app. Would I benefit from deselecting
some in other apps? Do I need Norwegian support in Photoshop? My guess is
no, but without understanding quite what this part of the interface
controls, I might be way off.

Anybody care to educate me in this matter?
Thanks!
