PowerMail 5.6.3 crashing on New Message?
Mac OS version: 10.3.9 I just upgraded from PowerMail 3.1.3 to 5.6.3 and everything is working fine, except that I can't send any kind of letter, PowerMail 5.6.3 crashes right away. I've tried to create a totally new enviroment, and it still crashes when doing a New Message or doing a Reply on a recieved letter.. Also, when doing Text Signatures, clicking in the text field for the signature, the application crashes..! What could be wrong? Everything else works flawless on my Mac OS 10.3.9, i'm also a mac supporter, so my system is maintained as it should be.. I have no other crashes like those above.. With regards, Ulrik Larsen

This could happen in some previous PowerMail version, when the spell checker is broken (or some third party dictionary for Apple's spell checker are installed). Does the spell checker work in other applications (Text Edit for example)? However, recent versions of PowerMail should not crash in this case (spell checking should just not work). Can you send me (privately) a crash log please? Jérôme - CTM Engineering - I would like to comment that FoxTrot is so far superior to Spotlight in every way that without it, I would probably have to go back to Windows (shudder) since the ability to search my own files is mission critical. From versiontracker.com: This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: * Mac OS X 10.5 Intel * Mac OS X 10.5 PPC * Mac OS X 10.4 Intel * Mac OS X 10.4 PPC See? The last version to support Panther is 5.5.3 I really think this info should be more prominent on the CTM web site. You can download 5.5.3 on http://www.ctmdev.com/download/ Mikael Technoids: PM 5.6.3 build 4504 sv / SpamSieve 2.6.6 sv | OS X 10.4.8 | Powerbook G4/400 | 1GB / 80GB

With regards, Ulrik Larsen I´ve the same problem here on an old iMac G4 running PowerMail 5.6.2 on 10.3.9. Rebuilding doesn't help. It happens whenever a new message window is about to open. Peter

I see now that the download page actually says Mac OS X 10.5.x, 10.4.x, 10.3.9 (Intel and PowerPC). Ulrik, if 5.6.3 supports Panther, then it could be anumber of things. You really need to supply the crash logs to CTM, to begin with. I've tried to create a totally new enviroment, and it still crashes when doing a New Message or doing a Reply on a recieved letter.. Meanwhile, have you tried to create a new user in Mac OS X and run PowerMail under that account and creating a new environment there? If that works, it could be PowerMail settings or OS cache files spooking things up.

PowerMail 5.6.3 was supposed to be 10.3.9 compatible, but in fact it seems not: the reported crash seems systematic on 10.3.9. The transition from XCode 2.4 to 3.0, which should have been transparent, brought us multiple crashes :-( Jérôme - CTM Engineering - When Google Desktop was released I immediately downloaded it. I was hoping to find something better than FoxTrot. What I found was that it didn't find many files that FoxTrot does find, and that the indexing process was uncontrollable, and it brought my Dual-Core MacBook Pro to its knees. The computer was almost unusable while it was being indexed. I understand that they have brought out a new version, but I have deleted it from my disk (and have turned off Spotlight indexing in the FoxTrot preference panel). I don't often need an indexed search of my disk, but when I do, FoxTrot is hands down the best. Alan Harper, FoxTrot Personal Search user Download a demo version from www.foxtrot.ch -
