Have you tried Rebuild Index... option for the Database in the File menu? The options displayed by pressing cmnd+option when you launch PM do something different (apparently) and do not help the search function in any way.
This is a problem I had with an earlier beta and was only resolved by a more comprehensible explanation of what was required, from Jerome.
