Re: [OT] Here's one for Pete - Gay Rights Icon arrested on child porn charges.

2012-06-27 Thread Michael Madigan
Common sense

Men make up the overwhelming majority of predators of both girls and boys.

Only 3% of men are gay, yet about 31% of child molestation victims are boys,
almost exclusively man on boy..

http://www.childmolestationprevention.org/pdfs/study.pdf

That means homosexuals offend at almost 10 times that of heterosexual men.

The argument is "just because a man has sex with a boy, doesn't mean he's gay",
or, "many men who rape boys are married", of course they never state the
corollary, "Just because you're married to a woman doesn't make you straight".

I don't expect this to change the minds of the pedophile supporters.

Pete,
No numbers that I have ever seen substantiate that homosexuals make up a
greater number of pedophiles.  Now, there could be a number of reasons for this
but I wondered if Mike had an actual source or if he was merely speculating.

As for you experience, while tragic, it is statistically insignificant.

Hi Michael,

You of course know that no one would ever publish that - not politically
correct.

> As for you experience, while tragic, it is statistically insignificant.

Everybody says that, again and again. Thus I have dropped my rants to
"line them up and shoot them" and would be satisfied with life in prison
for all of them who actually indulge. "Dirty" thoughts are still private.

Now think about this: Life in prison. Roll over and you find that
somebody, maybe "Bubba", loves you long time. There is only one reason
why they don't line up around the block for this - they don't like Bubba
or any adult partner, they would prefer to have kids for sexual slaves.

Hi Adam,

Well, if you wanted to remove all doubt about yourself! Traditionally

Shame on me.. bollocks; you are just lying to cover up your insecurity over

Irrespective though the figures do not substantiate your hysterical rants

Depends on the bills you've got to pay. Corporate World for IT
*usually* pays better than going solo, unless you've got a well
established product and/or client-base.  My dream/goal isn't wealth;
it's independence and freedom from bills. Hence currently, I'm in the
Corporate World.

(And on that note, I make my last payment to the divorce lawyer this
week!!! Woo hoo!! Finally done with that one!!)

Thanks to all those who added their thoughts and recommendations on this topic!

Update: After 2 hours of meetings on the topic and selecting different options

has been set aside - just one day after we are told they want to get them right
away and to decide quickly.   Apparently the thought now is that since the

I disagree. I use a laptop AS a desktop. It mostly stays on my desk
with a mouse and keyboard plugged into it. I find it is much quieter
than a desktop, not as hot, takes up less space, and uses less
electricity. I actually have a second laptop that I use as a laptop if
I have to travel.

I've upgraded my Parallels a few times. If you don't get that, you have a
relatively limited window for downloading the installer and no recovery option
once that window passes. It's basically insurance and IIRC you can just uncheck

Hey -

For the second time in as many investigations, I have stopped the process of
buying software upgrades. Why? A "online delivery fee" included. The example
this morning: Parallels. I have ignored for a while the "opportunity" to
upgrade it. I got a notice for an offer I thought was reasonable price ($30),
so I said "Sure, why not?" I followed the link, and was on the "checkout"
screen on their site. There it was:
Extended Download Service:      $6.99. I muttered a few expletives, and said "F
this."

I took the time to look for some feedback mechanism to tell them what I think
of this, but the only option seemed to join their forum. I didn't bother.

Opinions?

I don't agree at all. Now you have to keep a pair of devices up to
date, software installed as well as updates. Why pay for duplicate
software OS, as well as all other apps that are not in house or open
source.

When two devices are in use you have to cross reference any changes
between the two? Why would I ever want to do that waste of time?

I have been working, day job, off of laptop for a couple of months now
and I love it. I have to take my laptop with me as an IT employee
because when doo-doo happens I need to be able to leap into action.
Why would I want to commute to the office to work?

Get a quality laptop and your good to go. Get a docking station as well.

[NF] Buying software online (grumble)

2012-06-27 Thread Ken Kixmoeller (ProFox)
Hey -

For the second time in as many investigations, I have stopped the process of
buying software upgrades. Why? A "online delivery fee" included. The
example this morning: Parallels. I have ignored for a while the
"opportunity" to upgrade it. I got a notice for an offer I thought was
reasonable price ($30), so I said "Sure, why not?" I followed the
link, and was on the "checkout" screen on their site. There it was:
Extended Download Service:      $6.99. I muttered a few expletives, and
said "F this."

I took the time to look for some feedback mechanism to tell them what
I think of this, but the only option seemed to join their forum. I
didn't bother.

[NF] LiveMesh activeX

2012-06-27 Thread John Weller
Looking at Uninstall Programs in Windows 7 control Panel I appear to have 7
identical copies of the LiveMesh ActiveX control. They all have the same
version and size. Four are in French, Spanish, German and I think
Portuguese plus 3 in English with what appears to be identical names except
that one version has the words 'remote connections' in lower case whereas
the other 2 have it with initial capitals. Question - can I delete 6 of
these?

True, but it is a cost/benefit. Probably pretty easy for most
ecommerce sites to calculate. How many sales from IE7 customers versus
the cost of backwardly conforming. If you sell to old farts like me,
probably worth the effort to support IE7. If you sell to a young
demographic, probably not. If you sell to geeks, just post a page
