RE: Free Vista for UK peps
Tristan, Well spotted! On my Work passport I allowed Microsoft contact and received the confirmation email, however for my home passport I had the "do not send email" and I haven't received confirmation. Both of the entries were at the same time so I SHOULD receive two Vista's - Result! Nah "unfortunately" I allow MS to contact me (but not partners), so in this instance I might just have been slow and unlucky! On the other hand I have just won an MP3 player, which will be my father in laws birthday present sorted and with my action pack I do have more copies of vista than I need. ::a -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tristan Leask Sent: 01 March 2007 10:20 To: profox@leafe.com Subject: RE: Free Vista for UK peps "Could people check their contact preferences via https://profile.microsoft.com (choose the "my contact preferences" option). ___ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice. Dave, The link to the blog entry is here... http://blogs.msdn.com/ianm/archive/2007/01/31/have-we-reached-1000-winne rs-yet-uk-developer-launch.aspx I found the answer by starting from the bottom up on the videos. IIRC the second from last video had the company in it and there was a chapter link to them. I was basically checking all the chapter titles in the videos that were referring to Vista. That was the only company name that I could find in any of them. RE: Free Vista for UK peps
Been there, done that, and its sure the truth.. The majority of IT depts are one of the reasons VFP is dying in the corporate world. That’s because they inherited an app that they have to maintain that was developed by a NON IT person because IT was too busy to develop it themselves in the first place... I've seen many places where IT thought that it was the keeper of the gate and that they controlled what the business used and didn’t use. The problem is that when the business stakeholders don't get what they need to accomplish their business functions, then they start going outside of IT to get results. I talked a friend of mine out of starting his own IT dept in engineering once I could see his point, but there were better ways to accomplish that without the problems it would create. Tristan, Good set of presentations, I really enjoyed all of them especially the Sharepoint Portal and Windows Presentation Foundation. My only comment is that Microsoft seem to have aimed the whole system at large enterprises and totally forgotten the SMB's which VFP seems to aim at. Surely there are so many more SMB potential customers than there are large enterprises so why do M$$ not feel that they are a source of revenue worth pursuing? Maybe it isn’t VFP that M$ are ignoring but all the SMB's and their problems. By SMB's I probably mean SB's because I guess that the majority of VFP software is installed into companies of up to 200 personnel. RE: Free Vista for UK peps
I attended a MS Event Tuesday where we got a look at vista, dot net 3.0 and the New Office 2007. For my time, they gave me a free copy of Office 2007. I'm now using it. I like the look, but then again, it's just a change in the window dressing, or so it seems, plus a few minor tweaks. There are some ajax like components in the new stuff so that when you do a mouseover, it brings up a menu. They showed how you can have a video as your desktop using vista. I thought Ken Levy did that with a fox program years ago!
