RE: Ribbon menus
Hi All Been asked by a client if I can update his application to make it more modern. Showed him what I had seen at the Prague conference and he very much likes the Idea of a ribbon bar. Like Office 2007. Research found the VFPX Tab menu project and the ARG command bars project. Advantages and disadvantages so far are Tab Menu is free ARG is 120 dollars. Tab Menu is sparse on documentation whilst ARG seem to be documented much better. I am asking for comments, suggestions and other areas to look. Than you Peter Hart Peter Hart Computers P.S. Hi Peter, I used the ARG menu product many years ago. The product was visually very impressive (gorgeous!) and the author/developer very responsive to bugs and feature requests. The documentation lagged the product's capabilities, but I found I could figure out what I needed to do by reverse engineering the demos. While not perfect, I would give this vendor my highest recommendation. Why don't you try out the free demo and see if it fits your needs? Hi Ajoy The sessions are all listed on the Daquas we site http://devcon.daquas.cz/default.aspx We were given to understand that the Session material would be available by now but I have been unable to find out where as yet. I would like to look at that myself as although the session titles where of interest the English accents of some of the speakers made it difficult for me to understand. My hearing suffers because of all the years in high volume environments. RE: Ribbon menus
Hi Malcolm I have already done that and like you was impressed especially with the instruction video that is available. As I said its the price which is the stumbling block. I can't charge it on to the client. It will be a charge against there software maintenance payments. So the VFP Tab Menu looks good but it doesn't seem to have been worked on lately. The first change I wanted to make was to make the Tabs larger to accommodate more prompt text. It appears to be a many directive *:Barsize but how to get that to work is not immediately obvious. Hence the need to look for advice. Is there another better option, is there a way of getting help with the VFP tab menu option or do I take the plunge with the ARG product. Another problem is that my wife who is Russian advises me to have nothing to do with a Russian company. /Grin Cheers Peter -Original Message- From: profox-boun...@leafe.com [mailto:profox-boun...@leafe.com] On Behalf Of Malcolm Greene Sent: 11 July 2009 15:01 To: profox@leafe.com Subject: RE: Ribbon menus Hi Peter, I used the ARG menu product many years ago. I wonder if you are anyone else can answer a quick question. I have used the Ribbon Menu Example and have edited it to give me what I want and that works OK although there are some properties which don't seem to behave the way I would like. However when I run the form it always comes up with a message box which says: Command Bars Library v.7.0 Copyright (c) 2004-2009 Alex R, Grigorjev, ARG Software design Lab. All Rights reserved This Product is licensed to: Peter Hart Peter Hart Computers License ID: XXX--99x9x9 I have changed the License No. Here. RE: Ribbon menus
Hi Peter, Disclaimer: I don't have ready access to the source code from my old ARG projects so the following is from memory and may not be entirely accurate or up-to-date with the current version of the product: 1. You need to register the ARG software on your machine via something like this: Regedit.exe -s argcommandbars.reg BTW: It sounds like you've done this already. 2. *Before* you load the Command Bars Library you need to execute something like the following: public _4IJK82B6 _4IJK82B6 = .T. The actual '_4IJK82B6' value is buried in all the stuff that the vendor sends you and is specific to each user's registration (don't use the above value - I made it up) I wish I could offer more help, but its been 4+ years since I used an older version of the product and I really had to rack my brain for the above. There used to be a small group of avid ARG customers on the UT - might be worth signing up for a month of UT service just so you can search the archives for feedback from other customers. Hi Malcolm and Mike Haven't got time to upload then to my web sites at the moment so I am going to try this. LogMeIn has a function that allows other people to upload files from my computer direct to theirs. The files are large and would need cutting down to put up on the site. Difficult to size them without loosing readability, and I would think not make them as spectacular. I will set the files to be available for 2 days with multiple uploads. Please note that the images are 7MByte plus so may take some uploading. Please don't all try at once. Goods Deliver Notes is the next part but I need to go to the clients and discuss with the people who do them manually now. So I am havening a rest from it and looking at other things. I need to get back to the Blog and the Support site. Waiting to hear from Alex as to whether he is going to purchase a Russian domain Name. I have a video of the application which you could upload but I it isn't finished yet need a better sound track and redoing as most of the problems have been sorted new forms added. It is quite large at 500 MB approximately. But if you have the time to set it off uploading I can send you a link to upload it directly from my computer. The web site is at http://arg-software.intabrokers.com/ Cheers Peter P.S. thanks to Alex I found how to get rid of the dialogue and other problems. -Original Message- From: profox-boun...@leafe.com [mailto:profox-boun...@leafe.com] On Behalf Of Andrew MacNeill Sent: 31 August 2009 10:31 To: profox@leafe.com Cc: profoxt...@leafe.com Subject: Re: Ribbon menus How is it going with the ARG Commandbars, Peter? Sorry for responding so late on this - but I've been out of sorts for a bit. Were you able to get rid of that dialog?
