[libreoffice-projects] Marketing/Community Budgets for 2023
Let's do awesome things! Get support for your projects and ideas from TDF budget Want to organise a local LibreOffice event? Need some merchandise to boost your project or community? Then we can help you! The Document Foundation, the non-profit behind LibreOffice, is backed by contributions from ecosystem members and volunteers, as well as donations from end-users. This helps us to maintain TDF, but we can do a lot more too. And next year, we want to do a lot of projects again! Each year, we set a budget that LibreOffice projects and communities can use for financial support. Some examples: * Booking a location, and travel refunds for a local event (eg a translation sprint) * Merchandise for community members, to use at events and conferences * Infrastructure to start a new project (or help an existing one) So if you have some ideas for a meetup, project or activity that could benefit from financial help, let us know! We can also assist you in other ways: our team members are there to help you, and enable you to do exciting and interesting things. You don't need to work out all the technical details right now - the main thing is that we have an overview. To help us with planning, we kindly ask you to send your ideas by January 6, 2023, as we try to prepare the 2023 annual budget in January. You can send your proposal (with estimated costs) to treasu...@documentfoundation.org and me...@documentfoundation.org, and we'll take a look. Of course, can't guarantee that everything will be considered and approved, but we'd love to hear your ideas! [libreoffice-projects] IMPORTANT UPDATE LibreOffice Conference
We apologize for being silent about LibreOffice Conference 2022, but we have had significant but unforeseeable logistic issues in Bolzano when we have looked for available hotel rooms. Even the local tourism authority has not been able to find more than a handful of rooms available for the last week of September, definitely not enough for the number of attendees we are expecting. Luckily, there are other beautiful cities in Italy. To avoid similar issues, we have decided to explore Milan, as the number of conference venues and hotel rooms is so large that chances of finding somethig suitable was definitely higher. In fact, we have found a beautiful conference space right behind Piazza del Duomo at Fondazione Culturale San Fedele, right in the center of the city, and rooms in hotels close to the metro (which reaches Piazza del Duomo). The conference will represent an opportunity to visit Milan, which is one of Italy's most beautiful cities. We will share all logistic details before July 15. Together with the logistic details, we will share infos about places to see, and food & drinks to enjoy. The dates of the conference have not changed: we will start on September 28 with community meetings, while the conference will be on September 29 and 30 (full day), and will close in the morning of October 1st. People who want to attend the event can start looking at flights to one of Milan's three airports: Milan Linate (LIN), Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY). Milan can be reached by high-speed train from Paris, and with long-distance trains from most of Europe. As soon as we share logistic details, we also suggest people to look for hotel rooms based on the list of affordable hotels close to the metro we are putting together. Most of the hotels will be rather small, as large hotels are usually quite expensive. Milan has a rather large metro network, and public transport which get almost everywhere. To get around the city with public transport, we use the Moovit smartphone app, which is quite helpful. Taxis are extremely expensive, and should be used only for emergencies (NEVER from and to airports, as there are cheap bus services). Looking forward to meeting the community in Milan, nine years after 2013 LibOCon hosted by the University of Milan. [libreoffice-projects] Marketing Call/Webinar, May 27

I will also present the LinkedIn Pages which were mentioned in one of the last blog posts. They represent an opportunity for the project, as LinkedIn is one of the most followed sources of enterprise contents and as such can help us to reach the objective of supporting the business of ecosystem companies. [libreoffice-projects] LAST CHANCE Community/Marketing Budgets 2021
First of all, thanks to the few communities that have replied in due time. As we would like to get all requests from all communities, we have extended the deadline to December 20, in order to have the budget ready in early 2021 (attention: no further delays). We are asking native language communities to provide the following: 1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2021. Please avoid wishful thinking, and stick to achievable objectives. A few examples: organize a virtual meeting with public administrations to educate them about LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local Virtual LibreOffice Conference; support local groups organizing activities – from remote – in schools and universities; etc. 2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a rationale or spending details (easy to understand) will not be approved. 3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably covering different expense chapters (infrastructure, suppliers, OOP money) and budget approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of what they approve. Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for: 1. virtual community events (aimed at getting face-time for contributors) 2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the outside world) 3. community events in presence (only if possible according to the local law) 4. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools) In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or new services for your native language community. The idea is to have a good plan for 2021 as soon as possible, while keeping the administrative overhead low, and have two authorizers responsible for the final approval of the budget. TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and a budget bucket for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the availability of funds). ## Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF reimbursement policies: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds. [libreoffice-projects] Community/Marketing Budgets 2021
Dear members of LibreOffice native language communities, We are going through challenging times, for reasons which have nothing to do with free open source software. The pandemic is hitting hard every geography, and as a consequence all activities are slowed down or delayed. In 2020, we were supposed to organize events and other face-to-face meetings, and this was reflected by approved budget requests. Because of the situation, the majority of the budget has not been spent. On the other hand, we want to support your community and marketing activities under the new conditions, where the majority of countries is under partial or total lockdowns, or – in the best of cases – with constrained mobility. The situation is not going to change for the foreseeable future, so for the first six months of 2021, if not for the entire year. So, we have to schedule in advance marketing/community activities, to approve the budget as soon as possible – hopefully before the end of 2020 or very early in 2021 – and have the time to get organized. We are therefore asking native language communities to provide the following: 1. 2. I HAVE RECEIVED ONLY THREE PICTURES SO FAR, I THOUGHT THE LIBREOFFICE ANNIVERSARY WAS AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE FOR OUR COMMUNITY We were originally supposed to organize some live event to celebrate LibreOffice 10th Anniversary, but unfortunately the current situation does not allow us to meet, not even in small groups. On the other hand, in three weeks from now, on Monday September 28, it will be exactly 10 years since we announced the LibreOffice project and The Document Foundation (which was incorporated two years later). The idea is to put together an animated video of community members celebrating the 10th anniversary, smiling to the LibreOffice community and to the FOSS ecosystem at large. You have two full weeks to create a picture of yourself, where your show how happy and proud you are as a LibreOffice contributor. Be creative. Details will be evaluated once the strategy has been approved. The call will start at 3PM CEST (UTC+2), and will be structured as a question and answer session. We will use TDF Jitsi instance. [libreoffice-projects] Marketing Call Minutes
1. LibreOffice Viewer promo video for Google Play (as mentioned on this list): what we should include, how long it should be, other ideas * Make a short video, a summary, that can be extended when new releases are made (keep the source) -- add "Help us to make it even better!" at the end with tdf.io/joinus * Do an animation rather than show the app itself? eg LibreOffice logo on a desktop PC, then shrinks and jumps into a phone -- "The power of LibreOffice is now available in your pocket" -- talk to Franklin about his contact who does 3D animations with Blender and provide a concept (we should provide some kind of briefing) * Make a longer video when editing becomes a standard feature? * AI developers: LibreOffice Viewer only has ownCloud in the storage settings, even though it supports Nextcloud too (and more?) 2. Stickers: we want to place another order soon, so what do our marketing communities (especially NLPs) need? Any new ideas? * AI Mike: Look at Moo in the UK (who do TDF business cards) -- check their prices for a bulk order of stickers, so we can get bunches of stickers printed on demand * What do we want? Regular LibreOffice, DLP, hexagonal (LO 6) -- check with Jona for the size of the hexagonal stickers (Fedora has them), smaller stickers for phones, Proud Contributor * AI Mike: Email different lists (localisation, documentation) asking what kind of stickers they would like -- open a wiki page * Try to attract more developers: stickers and posters, like "Hacking in the front line!" or similar 3. Feedback on the announcement of LibreOffice 6.0 * LibreOffice 6.0 was well received; boost in donations * More local languages for the announcements would be good -- translators need the PR draft a bit earlier; difficult to plan when technical comments are still coming in days before the release * Italo to look at gaps in the calendar (between major and minor releases), to make other announcements * LibreOffice 6.0 to be included in the upcoming of Pardus, a Linux distribution popular in Turkey 4. Upcoming events * Local conference in Surabaya, Indonesia,à on March 24/25 -- they are a large community, so it would be good to get them more active in the global community * April 7/8: Hamburg hackfest and German community meetup * AI Mike: do more word-spreading about the hackfest and meeetup * In May: OSCAL free software conference in Tirana (Albania) * In June: Open Expo in Madrid, speech and table for LibreOffice to be confirmed * In August: Debian conference in Taiwan, with LibreOffice community meetup (including community members from Korea and Japan), KDE Academy in Vienna (Austria) * Turkey: Free Software and Linux days in Istanbul in April (2 days); end of July is Linux Summer Camp (10 days, includes Linux courses and trainings) -- Italo Vignoli - Marketing & PR email italo.vign...@documentfoundation.org mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - skype italovignoli hangout/jabber italo.vign...@gmail.com The Document Foundation, Kurfürstendamm 188, 10707 Berlin, DE Gemeinnützige rechtsfähige Stiftung des bürgerlichen Rechts Legal details: http://www.documentfoundation.org/imprint GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: projects+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/projects/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

In order to improve the management of the marketing/community budget for 2018, we ask native language communities to provide the following: 1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2018. Please avoid wishful thinking, and stick to realistic objectives. A few examples: organize a meeting with public administrations to educate them about LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local LibreOffice Conference; reimburse volunteers travelling around the country to present LibreOffice and ODF at local events. 2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a rationale or easy to understand details will not be approved. 3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably covering different expenses (people, suppliers, events) and budget approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of what they approve. Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for: 1. community events (aimed at getting face-time for community contributors) 2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the outside world) 3. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools) In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or new services for your native language community. The idea is to keep the administrative overhead as low as possible, and have two authorizers responsible for each budget. TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and one for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the availability of funds). As a sample, a request could look like this: ## We'd like to request a 2018 budget of 1000 € for community events and 1500 € for marketing. Expenses we envision are 1. marketing: attendance at XYZ trade show to show LibreOffice to ABC user group (700 € booth costs, 300 € for collaterals and 500 € of travel, totalling to 1500 €), 2. community: a community weekend to discuss tasks and ideas (600 € hotel, 100 € for snacks and 300 € travel, totalling to 1000 €). ## Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF policies: Travel: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Travel Refunding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Refunding Community Refunding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds Deadline for submissions is January 28, 2018, in order to have amounts discussed during FOSDEM meetings. There should be a resizing feature which allows to switch from 4:3 to 16:9 without changing the aspect ratio of iterms on the slide (which is what happens today). A large slide with more white space is not a problem, and is often acceptable, as much as a narrower slide with less white space. Re: [libreoffice-projects] On the communication channels we use
People already on Telegram are far more than people willing to move to a different platform like RocketChat (which I have installed, to discover that nobody was using it). Telegram groups are used for discussions, and it looks like there is a majority of people more familiar with Telegram than with other tools (and this has nothing to do with TDF team, but with the habits of people). IMHO, we have to reach out to people, and not force them upfront to switch to what we consider a better option. Once they have started to contribute, we can ask them to move to our preferred platform, which is a mailing list (for marketing). This is what happens today. Marketing coordination happens on the private marketing mailing list, where people are invited once they show some willingness to help (but then the reality is that these people are more active on Telegram than on the mailing list). I use IRC to communicate with other team members, although I do not like at all the system (independently from the client, as I have tested them all, to discover that they are developed by developers for developers, and not for people with a different background and mindset). The fact that we respect people willing to use IRC instead of Telegram is confirmed by bridges which have been created between the two. Bridges are available for general discussions, QA and design, so for every group where they are needed. By the way, if I had to use what my family and friends are using, I would switch to POTS and text messages, as this is what old people in industries such as communications and marketing are using (nobody is on Telegram or Slack, a few are using FB Messenger and even less WhatsApp and Skype). Re: [libreoffice-projects] Quick poll about slide format
Hi Heiko, being a heavy Impress user, and having the majority of my slides in the Screen 4:3 format (because the majority of projectors in conference centers is still supporting only the Screen 4:3 format), I can tell you that a killer feature here would be a format converter from 4:3 to 16:9 which adapts the contents without stretching horizontally all visuals (something which does not allow a quick conversion). The ideal situation would be a switch between the two formats which is triggered by the connection to the external video/projector. [libreoffice-projects] Minutes of Marketing Call
1. LibreOffice 5.4 Launch LibreOffice 5.4 announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 1PM CEST. Localizations of the press release should be sent to Italo for distribution. Media pre-briefings have been organized on Monday and Tuesday, prior to the announcement. 2. Enterprise focused activity (Foad) Foad is a new member of the community, who has a solid experience in marketing software to enterprises. He will start a project to interact with large software vendors such as SAP and SalesForce, to integrate LibreOffice into their large enterprise software. 3. What about a Telegram marketing group? Given the success of the Design Group on Telegram, we have created a LibreOffice Marketing Group to integrate the public marketing mailing list (which has been rather dormant during the last few months). The link to subscribe to the group is the following: https://t.me/LibreOfficeMarketing. As usual, confidential discussions about marketing strategies and launch activities will continue on the private marketing mailing list, which is a closed list by invitation. 4. What about a Spanish marketing group? There is a growing number of people in Spanish speaking countries, especially in South America, willing to help in promoting LibreOffice in their geography. It looks like some of these people might have issues in speaking English, so the idea is to have a Spanish marketing group (either Telegram or mailing list) where people can discuss in their native language, with the help of other people who might not be fluent in Spanish but are willing to help (like Italo, who understands Spanish but speaks a funny mixture of Italian, Spanish and Portuguese). [libreoffice-projects] Marketing Call July
July marketing call will be focused on the announcement of LibreOffice 5.4, scheduled for the last week of July. We will organize a number of briefings for the media, to provide advanced information on the new major release. Materials for localization will be available next week. During the last few months we have added a substantial number of new journalists in Africa, Asia and Latam, so localization will be very important. [libreoffice-projects] Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017
Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017 Attendees: Uwe Altmann, Jona Azizaj (partial), Florian Effenberger (partial), Sophie Gautier, Marina Latini, Anxhelo Lushka (partial), Mike Saunders, Martin Srebotniak, Heiko Tietze, Italo Vignoli, Franklin Weng Agenda 1. Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4 Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4 is scheduled for the last week of July (potential date: Wednesday, July 26). We have started collecting information, and while Mike will be working at the new features video, Italo will be drafting documents for the announcement: press release, background on new features, white paper about cost of interoperability (based on interesting findings from the National Institute of Standards and Technologies of the US Government), white paper about ODF vs OOXML, and possibly a video about ODF vs OOXML. Materials will be ready in early July. 2. LibreOffice 6.0: why the change of numbering After LibreOffice 5.4, we will change development cycle, as we will launch the LibreOffice 6 family (starting from LibreOffice 6.0 in late January 2018). The Design Team has started to work on a new branding concept for LibreOffice 6.0, and we will probably launch a mascot competition (which is going to be discussed during the next BoD meeting). Rationale for the change of development cycle will be discussed at the LibreOffice Conference in Rome. 3. Status of update of TDF slide decks Italo has just managed a Migration to LibreOffice Workshop in Tirana, and he has updated most of the shared TDF slide decks. He will upload the updated slide decks on the wiki during the weekend, including the first release of the ODF vs OOXML slide deck, which will be finalized in early August (just before the workshop in Taiwan). During the next few months, Italo will try to organize a number of webinars or seminars to bring everyone up to speed on the topic (which is not trivial, especially if we want to communicate with "normal" end users, who represent the majority of LibreOffice users also in enterprises). Questions - LibreOffice conference and the ODF Plugfest The technical session of the ODF PlugFest in Rome will be organized on Tuesday, October 10, the day before the opening session of the LibreOffice Conference. The presentation session will be organized in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 11, at the end of the opening session of the conference. - Questions about Italy Defence project The Italian Ministry of Defence has migrated 35,000 desktop out of 100,000. During the process, L2 and L3 support has been provided by the internal structure of the organization, which is providing the same kind of services for several applications (as most contents exchanged inside the organization cannot be shared with any external structure, because of the peculiar nature of the Ministry of Defence). - Further updates of the status of UK and Munich City We do not have any specific updates on the progress made in UK about the switch to ODF. For sure, the UK government has now other priorities than in 2014, because of the Brexit discussions with the EU. On the contrary, the fact that the city of Munich is switching back to MS Windows and MS Office seems just a matter of time. Unfortunately, the entire FLOSS ecosystem has managed the situation in the wrong way, as it has overlooked the importance of communicating the advantages of the switch to OSS on a daily basis (even when you have a strong political sponsor). For sure, the city of Munich has been functioning for 12 years - without any major hiccup - with a FLOSS based infrastructure, which represents in any case a testament of the viability of FLOSS for large public administrations. Also, to switch back to MS Windows and MS Office the city of Munich will spend almost 100 million dollars during the next few years, with an estimated increase of 75 million dollars over the current FLOSS infrastructure. This figure does not include hidden security costs based on the higher vulnerability of MS Windows based systems, as demonstrated by the recent WannaCry attacks (which have not affected MacOS and Linux systems). - Akademy booth TDF booth at KDE Akademy will be staffed by Gabriele Ponzo and possibly Xisco Faulì. Italo will put in touch the different people attending the event. -- Italo Vignoli - LibreOffice Marketing & PR mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - email it...@libreoffice.org hangout/jabber italo.vign...@gmail.com - skype italovignoli GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: projects+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/projects/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-projects] IMPORTANT Change of Date of the Rome Conference
Unfortunately, we have to postpone the conference to October 11 to October 13 for logistics issues. The rooms confirmed for October 11 to October 13 are on the Capitoline Hill, and are used by the City of Rome for official events. They are called Sala dei Protonotari, Piccola Sala dei Protonotari, and Sala del Carroccio. On behalf of the organizing committee I apologize for the inconvenience. The conference website has been updated. I look forward to meeting the entire community in Italy in October, for a successful conference. Best, Italo IMPORTANT: for any question about the conference, feel free to send me an email, but do not reply to this message as it is sent to all mailing lists and a reply would generate a huge amount of noise. -- Italo Vignoli - LibreOffice Marketing & PR mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - email it...@libreoffice.org hangout/jabber italo.vign...@gmail.com - skype italovignoli GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: projects+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/projects/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: [libreoffice-projects] Re: LibreOffice Mascot
Apologies for top posting, but in languages like Italian "tardigrado" means very slow, and "tardo" is commonly used to describe people with mental handicaps. So, tardigrade is definitely a no go for Italy. > 2017-04-26 16:25 GMT+02:00 Taylor Jenkins : >> How about a tardigrade for a mascot? -- Italo Vignoli - LibreOffice Marketing & PR mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - email it...@libreoffice.org hangout/jabber italo.vign...@gmail.com - skype italovignoli GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: projects+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/projects/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-projects] Marketing Call
Marketing Conference Call is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, at 1PM UTC. We will connect using TDF Jitsi instance, which is still under test (the call will be used to get a feedback): https://vm184.documentfoundation.org/TDFMarketing Please remember that Jitsi works better with proper WebRTC support, which is provided by Chromium, while Firefox seems to have issues (please do not use a proprietary browser).
