[NA-DVD] Day 13 (of 21) was - Re: [libreoffice-projects] Re: [us-marketing] [NA-DVD] Day 8 (of 21)

Sorry to hear and hope you are indeed feeling better. Here is the directory files as I have it now on my computer. All the dictionary files have .dic dates included in their file names. That has all the dictionaries linked with their dates. http://libreoffice-na.us/add-on-dictionaries-large-list.zip I did not remove the old, non-dated, versions of these dictionary files from the web site server yet. LOL - well, small problem there - I have 181 files in my latest pull from the server, in May when the last .iso was created, and yesterday I asked to have the files moved from the Libo-na.us server to the TDF cms server - this morning I find 404 files in this dictionary directory. I really thought we agreed on two items: 1 - nothing on the disc that is not referenced from the UI. 2 - no new files would go into the disc directory on server without all of us knowing in advance. [On the second point - I bear some responsibility here - seems I missed an email from you on June 2nd, where you are talking about updating files, so I'll take the hit on that one...] - this is going to make for a long day it seems. Moving forward today - I propose to move the files I have from May to the 'parking lot' on Erich's server (he was nice enough to give me info on that last night - thank you] and have those moved into the CMS system. I'll then delete the new dictionary files and that should put us back to a file load that matching what has been reviewed earlier. Then - we can step back and look at those files on the na.us server and see which ones really are updates. I ran diff on a few of them and found no changes, BTW, beyond the file name - there where a few with changes also, however. Which rather leads into another, related, subject. The new extension/template site - we have, thanks to Tim, a darn near full collection of the dictionaries and templates from the OO.o extension site...what do we do with them? The reason I have so many files on the server was the fact I never removed the older files. 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and 3.3.3 install files are all on the server. OK snip I want to keep as many of the versions as I can archived, for now, offline. But having them archived online might be a good thing for people as well, since I know someone wanted them and I could not remember how to find the LO site's archived section for older versions. I doubt anyone would mind if you do so - but you should know also that on the CMS server all these versions are also available, from 3.3.1 - 3.4.x, at the moment. They are not directly available to web clients but are available for disc production purposes. I think Florian will want the 3 missing 4.1 version French dictionaries on their server, so I sent them to you and those emails on that message thread. I can't speak for Florian but I he is not the real go to guy on this. I also found a few other .oxt dictionaries not listed on the OOo site. Those would be nice to include in the dictionary list. Alright - well, would need to check the license on those files but otherwise it sounds good - let's review them. The extensions.html file has all the dictionaries, as far as I remember, linked to the .oxt files that have their .dic dates included so the users can know who up-to-date those word lists are. It is nice when you find ones that have version numbers being updated, but, as far as I know, some have been updated in the past without any version number shown in the filename. Also the info you asked about what we do with all these dictionaries, extensions, and templates, we/I have needing a place for sharing with other projects is important. There are so many extensions that have not been added to our NA list that I have in my offline archive[s]. These need to be placed on a LibreOffice server for everyone to be able to download and/or use in their own CMS page[s]. LO users should not have to go to flaky OOo pages to get these .oxt files. I fully agree that it is high time to _stop_ referring LibreOffice users to OpenOffice.org resources! Whether is documentation, wiki pages, extensions, templates or user support. As for using the libo-na.us server for distributing some extensions, maybe - I'm not sure how that would work however and it would need to be talked through. There is a definite problem facing LibreOffice users with regards to what extensions TDF is willing to make available and I would love to host a site that makes those TDF will not host available - HOWEVER - I assume that will need to be unambiguously _not_ directly associated with TDF. The LO-Portal name might work for that, but libreOffice-na.us would likely be a big problem. If need be, I would create several extension pages for use on a LO server. It will not be one that you can search like OOo's site, but it could be organized in function groups. Dictionaries in one group, Writer aids in another. Special functions in a third, etc., etc.. We can decide how the extensions are grouped. Then you could either have one large page with shortcut anchors to skip down to the group you need, or make the groups different pages. Thanks for the offer - the LibO extension site is fully under development already. http://extensions-test.libreoffice.org/libreoffice-extensions I'm sure folks there would be interested in your help. hmm - actually I'm just assuming dictionaries will go on this site - don't actually know - will need to ask the people making the decisions about this service. I have over 80[?] extensions with almost 200 dictionaries, if you do not count both the original and updates files. I know there are more .oxt extensions available, but I downloaded the ones that I might be interested in using. For the total number of extensions that are out there on the OOo site, and other places, I feel there may be 150 to 200 of them, with many not needed anymore or not working with the newer versions of OOo or LO. So, there are a lot of things needed to be though about for dictionaries and other extensions. Yup - agreed.

I also looked at the installer directory and THINK I understand what is being planned there - I should put my thoughts in an email and just make sure that we are all on the same page. Hi drew, *, sorry for the delay. Was away for the weekend meeting with tdf admin collegues ;o)). As I'm not involved in content affairs I'll try to answer at best knowledge :o)). drew schrieb: On Fri, 2011-06-24 at 12:53 -0400, drew wrote: snip First - included the projects list on this. Alright finished up that artwork-gallery files and moved on to the clipart files. Now things get a little more interesting. 1) Some of the files are shared between NA-DVD and the DE disc, and they exist therefore in the assets directory on the CMS - problem is they use German names for the sub-directories, and we of course use English. Is there a good way to handle this using SilverStripe so we both get what we want without duplicating files? I had a short look over it. As far as I see, only those subdirs containing german content carry german names. It's the 'screenshot' and 'templates' folder. Maybe some rework is needed on a couple of places to make it less confusing but in general no overall rework is required. then again - do we care if a sub-directory is in English or German, really it is just a click on a URL link on a HTML page right? As not familiar with the CMS capabilities: does move folders/files move the link depencies as well?? In this case making a more clear folder scheme might be an easy task ;o)). 2) The openClipArt files. Alright we have a few more then currently on the CMS system, so no problem we add those. But - there current files on the CMS system all use .tar.gz files and we used .zip. Anyone care? Not from my part. Don't really know openclipart. There is an .exe file - is that an application pulling more stuff from the tar.gz's? and just to think out loud here - since we need to re-link the stuff on the HTML pages anyway - I would not mind taking the .zip files I have, bursting the apart and recreating to .tar.gz before pushing them to the server - I suppose .gz isn't considered a problem for windows users any longer, huh not shure if this is necessary. Maybe it's worth a look, whether to harmonize those things. Maybe Uwe or Erich can give more usable comments. [libreoffice-projects] Re: [us-marketing] [NA-DVD] Day 8 (of 21)
On Fri, 2011-06-24 at 10:03 -0400, drew wrote: Hi, OK - so yesterday I managed to get all of the files we had in the add-on-extensions moved up to the CMS server. Also managed to get 'some' of the additional artwork files. Doing this I had to make a decision and well, I just went ahead and made it - though it could be changed. The directory structure on the CMS is actually a good bit different from the one that ended up on the NA-DVD and I decided, in order to make our efforts more accessible to the wider project, to use the CMS current structure. What that means: We had all our extensions stored in a single directory. The CMS system has each extension stored in a separate sub-direcoties under a common root. I followed this patter. For Artwork we had all of our .oxt packaged (Gallery clipart) files in a single directory. We also have all the thumbnails for these files stored in a single, and different, directory (pics). The CMS again uses separate sub-directories, under a common root, for artwork gallery files. It also includes the thumbnail graphic associated with the .oxt in this separate directory (and any other ancillary file associted with the package). I also followed suit on this. So - for today, will finish moving artwork gallery files, then other artwork and then move onto moving templates. Finally, I found a few (only a few) files in the NA-DVD directories that are not listed in our UI - something that I thought we had gotten rid of. I did not move these files. Hi again, First - included the projects list on this. Alright finished up that artwork-gallery files and moved on to the clipart files.
