I agree that we should rename it. I wince every time I need to call it by
name. I often just call it prober anyway and even unaffiliated people
immediately know what I'm talking about.

More broadly, I think "blackbox" / "whitebox" monitoring is not very
descriptive, and would propose using "probing" and "instrumentation"
respectively.

It would take a bit of transition planning, maybe with one "double release"
under both names.

What do the maintainers think?

Each metric has exactly one value, so if you are wanting to store 
multiple values that would be multiple metrics, each with a unique name.


So for example my_metric_temperature_degrees & my_metric_height_meters

Can anyone please let me know, Is it possible to collect multiple gauge 
values for a single time series at the metric end-point?
For eg: the text-format exposition

[prometheus-developers] HA alertmanager clusters may merge into one if they run in the same flat network

Hi prometheus folks,

I have a question about alertmanager.

Here is an one year old issue about merging few HA alertmanager clusters 
into one big over time:

I managed to reproduce it on my local k8s kind cluster. Seems there is 
small discrepancy between a list of peers reported by gossip library and a 
list of peers from am config file.

We can workaround it by using k8s network policy. However more proper fix 
would be on alertmanager side: keep eye on number of peers and compare with 
desired number. In case there is some unexpected state, clear table of 
peers, do DNS resolution once more and do form a new peer table. Maybe 
there is better solution. What do you think? 

Probably I even can introduce a PR if we can agree on a way to fix it and 
someone can support me with review : )
