Re: [PEDA] Good default settings

2002-05-31 Thread Dwight

- check backup settings ( Arrow | Preferences ) -- 2 kinds, Create backup
files makes backups whenever you save; and Auto-Save settings are timed,
and can be directed to any drive/folder you want.

- Also on Arrow | Preferences, check Save Preferences (may be default).

- I think the default contents for a layer stackup legend were odd. On a
PCB, choose Tools | Layer Stackup Legend. Click once to place one corner,
then hit Tab to get the options dialog. You've got to set them before you
click to place the second corner!

- On any .sch, do Tools | ERC, go to Rule Matrix tab, and review/update the
matrix; main recommendation here is to make all Unconnected pairings into
warnings or errors, instead of OK.

- Learn to customize the toolbars, how to add buttons, hotkeys, change
menus, etc. One of Protel's greatest strengths is how customizeable it is!!

As with all software, I might expect some of the default settings for
Protel
'out-of-the-box' to be a bit mad. Are there any particular preferences to
check after install to give me good settings to start with?

[PEDA] Good default settings

2002-05-30 Thread Ivor Davies

Hi Everyone!

Our Financial Director finally sent off our order for Protel today and I can't wait to
get into it. I know most of you guys have been using it for years but think back to
when you first started using it...

As with all software, I might expect some of the default settings for Protel
'out-of-the-box' to be a bit mad. Are there any particular preferences to check after
install to give me good settings to start with?

Pacing the floor till it comes,
Ivor

Re: [PEDA] Good default settings

2002-05-30 Thread Thomas

It's been a while since I've installed Protel, but from memory: Schematic
editor Preferences/Graphical Editing/Convert Special Strings is not checked
by default. So you will see things like '.DATE'instaed of the current date.

'Add template to clipboard' (in Schematic editor Preferences/Graphical
Editing) is another one to confirm, if you only want to copy a little part
of a schematic to some other application (like MS Word) make sure this box
is un-checked.

I'm sure there were others.

Tom.
