Re: [PSAS] Post traumatic lug-breaking disorder
Now there's a CATO as I've ever seen one! Don't feel too bad... Tripoli Idaho Rocketry also had a launch last weekend over in Swan Falls, and 2 x different local college teams flew. BOTH rockets came in ballistic - it could always be worse! Re: [PSAS] Post traumatic lug-breaking disorder
ALSO, to give some perspective - when we were living near Kennedy Space Center last year, only *ONE* of the six launches we saw launched on the first try. The rest were try 2 or 3. There was one ULA launch where we got up at 3am for *4* mornings in a row, just to have it scrubbed again). All this to say, even SpaceX and ULA scrub launches - *so we are totally on track! * Thanks for the Live Stream - we really enjoyed "being" at the launch from here. [PSAS] Post traumatic lug-breaking disorder
Hi everyone, Certain people are beating themselves up about the launch lug breaking off. Stop that. Seriously. This was no ones fault. We'll root cause this next Tuesday, because that's always the Right Thing To Do, but please consider this: - We don't have a formal SOP for loading the rocket. So it's not like we didn't follow an SOP and broke the launch lug. This is no one particular person's fault. - None of us knew that loading the rocket would generate enough force to break the launch lug off. This was extremely unexpected. It possibly shouldn't have broken off, even with the misalignment, or we should have a system that behaves better with misalignment. In all cases: please stop beating yourselves up about this. It happened, we scrubbed, we're launching next month. This is not a big deal. And in the long run this is a big win because we can now make fun of "Joe's lugs coming off" for the rest of eternity. I, personally, have scrubbed plenty of launches with actual mistakes. It happens. Rockets are complicated beasts. We wouldn't be working on them if it was easy (!) Andrew PS. Also, if you're feeling this way, please talk to me before I find out from someone else and come hunt you down. -- --- Andrew Greenberg Electrical and Computer Engineering Portland State University http://www.ece.pdx.edu/ a...@ece.pdx.edu C: 503.708.7711 --- ___ psas-team mailing list psas-team@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-team This list's membership is automatically generated from the memberships of the psas-airframe, psas-avionics, and psas-general mail lists.
