Re: [PSF-Community] EuroPython 2019: Mobile Conference App available

What is "the community" in this context? There are many Python-oriented
communities, not a single one, so I'm not surprised that little gets
discussed here.

The clue is in the list's title: it's for people with some kind of interest
and/or stake in the PSF,

Alas the community doesn't seem to feel the need for a bidirectional
channel, and clearly very few information originators consider it useful.

If you are reading this message: what did you expect to see on this list?
What might you do to encourage people to post the sort of content you'd
like to see?

Kind regards.

PS: EuroPython is a brilliant community conference, in historical terms
about six months older than PyCon and just as community-spirited.

Re: [PSF-Community] EuroPython 2019: Mobile Conference App available

2019-06-27 Thread Mariatta
If you find yourself receiving too many posts from EuroPython, it is quite
simple to filter and automatically archive/delete/mute emails containing
the word "EuroPython".

Perhaps the problem is not with EuroPython posting too many things, but
rather why aren't other members share more "community-type" announcements
here?

If people always have to worry that they'll be criticized as "spamming" it
will deter people from actually posting useful information.

I personally think info about a conference is relevant to the community, so
it is fine to post them here.

Another thing that would be great is if the PSF community page (
https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/psf-community) can be updated to
include more elaborate guidelines and examples of what posts are acceptable
or not.

Re: [PSF-Community] EuroPython 2019: Mobile Conference App available

2019-06-27 Thread M.-A. Lemburg
James: We do have our own mailing lists as well. The point in posting
here is to address and engage with PSF members specifically, since
many of our attendees are PSF members.

We post announcements since we want to keep people up to date
with what's happening and not miss anything.

As mentioned, I'd love to see more such announcements from other
conferences as well, but many of them unfortunately don't appear to
have the PSF members on their radar.

not our attention.

Since we do believe in the PSF community, we also believe that such

If the community were more active the EuroPython announcements would be
lost in the noise.

The fact that they are so prominent is really a measure of the channel’s
uselessness. It appears to be little more than window-dresssing: this is
clearly not seen as a channel through which to address “the PSF community”
(whatever that is).

Re: [PSF-Community] EuroPython 2019: Mobile Conference App available

2019-06-27 Thread James Bennett
Since April when the first “website launched” message was sent, 65% of all new
threads posted to the psf-community list have been EuroPython announcements.

At this point I believe EuroPython announcements either outnumber, or are close
to outnumbering, posts about all other PyCons combined.

Please consider starting a separate EuroPython announcements mailing list and
inviting people who are interested to subscribe to it, as at this point the
volume of EuroPython announcements sent to psf-community is, in my opinion,
well over the line into spamming.

[PSF-Community] EuroPython 2019: Mobile Conference App available

2019-06-26 Thread M.-A. Lemburg
We are pleased to announce the mobile conference app for EuroPython
2019, again hosted on the Attendify platform:

EuroPython 2019 Conference App

   * https://ep2019.europython.eu/events/conference-app/ *

Engage with the conference and its attendees

The mobile app gives you access to the conference schedule (even
offline), helps you in planing your conference experience (create your
personal schedule with reminders) and provides a rich social
engagement platform for all attendees.

You can create a profile within the app or link this to your existing
social accounts, share messages and photos, and easily reach out to
other fellow attendees - all from within the app.

Vital for all EuroPython 2019 attendees
---

We will again use the conference app to keep you updated by sending
updates of the schedule and inform you of important announcements via
push notifications, so please consider downloading it.

Many useful features

Please see our EuroPython 2019 Conference App page for more details on
features and guides on how to use them.
