Hi Adrian,
Theme 1 - Production and Mixing:
No worries about audio production and mixing with ProTools and Logic Pro.
as regards to the interconnectivity with hardware systems, well, analogue stuff
still is more accessible then digital display, anyhow, the fundamentals of
either hardware as compressors, equalizers and so on will be the same.
if you have some kind of audio description and visual markers pre inserted by
some mate with good vision, I mean, I know by experience that you will have no
problem concerning the visual media content alongside song and instrumental
track creation.
Theme 2 - Composition:
It is essential to have fine composition knowledge. It seems that it will be
fun stuff!
with reference to interpreting and realising music notation scores, here you
and the institution will need to find the better stratagem, or, you use the
Braille Music Code with music transcribers or you will pursue the digital
musicXML route.
I consider that you should have also good knowledge regarding musicXML digital
scores music notation software’s anyhow.
Theme 3 - Sound Design:
Well, Logic and Pro Tools software synthesizers are possible to use, Native
Instruments also specially if you get the Komplete controller, the other ones I
don’t know.
repeating, the fundamentals will be the same! If one soft or hardware doesn’t
work find one that is accessible.
Theme 4 - Studio Recording:
Easy stuff.
to finish, well, this will demand a good knowledge of the Mac system and
VoiceOver, Pro Tools and Logic Pro, audio studio hardware, microphones, cables
and so on.
If I was you I would start straight away learning Pro Tools and Logic, it will
be probably 90% of your tools course.
scrutinize audio production stuff, Midi and so on.
Well, to be honest, the only matter that can be a bit delicate to deal with
will be the visual audio production as games and so on.
So, you must say to them that’s easily resolved with a friendly good eye! If
you have that minute support you will turn into a independent common audio
production technician as any other one.
explain to them that with the today technology The course is accessible.
Yet, if you demonstrate that you have a deep understanding of the course and
that you truly want to get in, if you show that you have answers and solutions
for most of the accessible issues concerning being a blind student, you will be
a good didactic progression for the university.
Best regards,
Rui

Subject: Music and sound production study
Hi,
As I have mentioned into a previous e-mail sent to this amazing list I am
going to study in UK, at Bournemouth University, for a BA in music and sound
production.
During last meeting what I had with additional learning support and few other
people from university, including the head of education, they have concerns I
will be able to finish this course because accessibility issues or things
which I cannot do because I am completely blind.
They said, not willing to put me off, but they wish to be sure they will not
setting me up for failure.
So, in short words, I need to know the opinion of people who are blind sound
engineers or followed similar study or have had to do in one way with the
software and tasks listed below, how faar, or how much from all of this could
be achieved by a completely blind person.
I am OK with computers, as long I do technology training for VI people, also, I
am a piano player, and podcaster. I have no experience with recording music,
unless being at the mic side, when I have recorded two religious music albums
some years ago in studio.
Of course, all regarding recording, editing and publishing my podcast is made
by me, without any sighted help.
The leader of music and sound production sent me an e-mail with this
information about topics for study /tests or exams, software involved, and
achievements expected.
I repeat, I don’t want anyone opinion, but only from people who are completely
blind, or worked next to them, or from people who studied same things.
The copy of message sent by university starts here:
