Re: Can someone please tell me whether ventura is a good os to upgrade to ?

I upgraded and kept running into "assertion" errors...Had to scrap the
install and start over in my previous OS. Make a backup before you
update...I tried again and everything works well!

Pro Tools and FaderPort 8

2021-11-08 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I'm late to the party, but I just recently bought an FP8 to use with Pro
Tools. I went through the stuff in the Dropbox in regards to setting things
up, button layout, automation, etc, but is there any more good information
as to how to set things up so everything works together? I had hoped I
could do more things with this thing, and to be honest, much of it is
probably that my expectations were too high, but other than the tutorials
in Dropbox, is there any other good information somewhere about the
FaderPort, Pro Tools, and VoiceOver? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sv: Support for Catalina

2020-05-12 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I'm running 15.4 and everything works like a charm on my end. The only thing
that ever hangs my system is that I'm using cloud authorization, and
occasionally it's sluggish, or I have to double tap VO-1 and get into the PT
window to restart the cloud authorization, but that's happened for several
versions now.

Re: Question about iLoks and the iLok manager

2020-01-03 Thread Jesse Kragiel
One issue is that all the new Mac laptops are USB C, so in order to use the
iLok key, you'd need an adapter or hub to make it happen. I use Main Stage in
live settings, and I leave my iLok key at home because I don't want it damaged
or stolen. However, I authorize PT in the cloud, and most of the instruments I
use have 2 or 3 simultaneous activations allowed, so at least one is always on
the iLok, which is always plugged into the studio iMac. That's just my scenario.

Re: Important update regarding macOS Catalina support

2020-01-03 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I have been using PT with Catalina, and I have to say that it's pretty
snappy. Also, the new VOCR is fabulous inside of Waves plugin windows. For
the first time, I have access to the preset load and save buttons on the
Waves toolbars, and it's been a game changer. VOCR alone made the upgrade
worthy for me. Be warned though, Catalina is the king of security
questions. Everything needs to be authorized, and granted access to. Once
the questions are asked though, they shouldn't come up again. Unless your
editing video, the experience should be pleasing.

New Waves Central a leap forward

2019-10-29 Thread Jesse Kragiel
As the subject says, the new Waves Central manager is a leap forward in
accessibility when compared to any prior version. I launched it, and
immediately was frustrated because the EULA screen would not allow any
navigation. I figured, business as usual, but my niece was in the room, so
she clicked the button, and I was surprised to be greeted with a typical
web view which allowed me to navigate and press elements on the screen
using typical VO commands. I bought and successfully authorized some
plugins, went into the settings screen and performed cleanup and uninstall
operations with no problems whatsoever. There are two glaring problems. The
first is that the state of checkboxes isn't reported, almost a deal breaker
until you figure out that by default, nothing is checked, and the first
checkbox in the list always selects everything. Let's remember that up till
yesterday, there was nothing we could do in Central without a working pair
of eyes close by.
This isn't perfect, but it's a giant forward step. If only Waves could
figure out how to make its toolbars accessible all across the board! I have
used VOCR to successfully use the toolbar in some of the plugins, but not
all. Finally though Waves Central works, and it's far easier than iLok or
Avid Link! This is huge!

Actually, the new Waves Central is completely accessible once you get past
the licensing screen. It could use some improvements, but I was able to do
everything independently.

2019-07-09 Thread Jesse Kragiel
That's absolutely correct! My first interface was an M-Audio Delta 1010 back in
its day, and it was so easy to mix on that thing! Of course, M-Audio since then
got bought out by Avid, and it became their budget stuff, all plastic. The pres
were awful! I've owned stuff from Emu, Presonus, and Alesis since then, but I
can promise you the best pres I've had thus far have been in my Focusrite
products...I had an Apollo Twin as well, and hated those pres! Also, the
quality of the digital to analog converters makes a huge difference with
playback. I can hear through a mix far better with my Focusrite stuff than I
ever could with my Presonus... Of course, there are far more accurate things on
the market than an all in one interface, but the average person may not notice
a difference. Plenty of great music has been made on Focusrite interfaces.

Re: Help with Pro Tools First and VoiceOver

2019-06-04 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Avid's basic system requirements are 16GB of Ram, but if I'm being totally
honest, I'm running 19.5 on a 2015 MBP Retina with 8GB. No problems, but you'll
be limited in how many plugins you can run at once, and you may be forced to
commit your tracks or freeze them, but it can be done if you can't lay the cash
out for a newer machine.

In your applications folder. Open that, and press F. Should take you to FB360.
Open that folder, and to uninstal is right there...providing you didn't
manually trash the folder. If you did, you'll need to restore it from the trash.

Re: protools 2018-12 and mohave

2018-12-21 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I don't do anything commercial with it, but if I did, and my system was
functioning amazingly and stable using an older OS, I wouldn't change it. The
issue is that the new Macs are all coming with Mojave preinstalled, so people
buying these systems will just have to be patient while Avid gets things
working correctly. Pro Tools is simply the easiest for Voiceover users to get
their heads around, so it'$ just gonna be a thing for us. Fortunately, there's
no real reason to update to Mojave. It adds no accessibility functionality.

As much as I love working with Pro Tools, it really is a slow-moving train

Re: State of the Mac

2018-11-14 Thread Jesse Kragiel
The problem with that would be glitchy hardware drivers for some things.
Besides that, with Apple's new T2 chip in place, the hackintosh option won't
work forever.

2018-11-13 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I'm sure basic things can be done with key commands, and you're absolutely
right. It probably would take a miracle to get it working in Windows.
Voiceover's method of interacting with elements just lends itself to quicker
navigation. I suppose Jaws scripting could be done, but that particular screen
reader costs as much as a mid-tier Mac Mini. In order to level the playing
field, PT would have to be able to run on NVDA, or Narrator, which is becoming
a pretty capable screen reader in its own right. If the way programs drew
graphical elements was standardized, it probably would help a lot.

State of the Mac

2018-11-13 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I'm very thankful for the level of access we get using the Mac. Compared
with my past in Windows, I now get things done quickly and efficiently in
Pro Tools, and love the software. I am concerned, however, with the state
of the Mac. I realize the Mini has been refreshed, and Im thrilled over
that, but more and more, Macs are less and less user serviceable. the MBP
with the touch bar is just obnoxious without an external keyboard and
dongles, and there's no way to add memory after the fact.Apple charges a
premium for flash storage, so what it used to take to invest in a usable
system which could be upgraded is just a drop in the bucket compared to
what I'd pay to buy a new Mac. Has anyone but me considered these things,
and does anyone but me wish PT had the level of access in Windows it does
on the Mac?

Waves NKS plugins and Komplete Kontrol

2018-08-26 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hi list! I'd love to use my NKS compatible Waves plugs with Komplete
Kontrol. 1: How would I go about getting Komplete to recognize the plugins?
2: How can instantiate Komplete on an audio track so I could even use the
browser? Currently, Komplete won't even show up in the list of plugins I
can put into an audio track!
Thanks for any help you can give, and best regards.

Questions about Komplete in PT

2018-08-24 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Forgive me if this topic has been visited, but I have a couple questions.
1: I can instantiate Komplete Kontrol on one instrument track only. After
that, how do I use a sound from Komplete on another track?
2: How do I get the NKS compatible plugins to work in the browser? Thanks
in advance, and sorry for my newly questions.

Re: Stumbling around in the intellectual dark is not the most efficient learning method

2018-03-30 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I bought Pro Tools with Speech, and followed all the tutorials. They're a bit
dated now, but the beautiful thing about Pro Tools is that accessibility has
only gotten better since they made those lessons, and the concepts haven't
changed! Of course, Flo Tools has been a true game changer, because I don't
have to program hot spots in every session anymore. It's already done! Also,
selecting tracks in the track table has gotten a whole lot easier, but that's
such an in your face change that you shouldn't have a problem. After PT with
Speech, coupled with things I already knew from my Cakewalk days, I was able to
record clients, edit audio, and even use midi instruments. I read the manual,
but I am better at practical learning than book learning. Still, I keep it on
hand for reference.

Re: Where is the starting point....

2018-01-06 Thread Jesse Kragiel
The entry level 27-inch iMac is a good choice if budget is a concern. Its
processor is beefy enough to handle Pro Tools, and memory is user
upgradable. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro, and wish I'd gotten the iMac, but
there are times when I have to take the studio mobile, and record on the
go. My MacBook Pro hangs quite a bit more than I'd like, and I can't run as
many plugins either. Get the iMac.

PayPal. Email me privately if interested.

RE: BR1600-CD

Boss is owned by Roland, who were the makers of the mildly accessible VS series
of recorders. I'd read the manual before committing to it though, as there may
be some key combos to jump around the unit. I agree though, the laptop with
portable interface is far more accessible, and the sky's the limit with your
mixing and editing.

All that stuff is actually checked the way it's supposed to be. I can mute,
solo, and do all those things in the track. If by scrubbing, you mean moving
the shuttle, the answer is yes. I don't have a control surface, so I'm limited
to scrubbing with the numpad. Definitely frustrating when something usually
works until it doesn't! Lol!

Edits not working! Help please!

2017-08-14 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hello! I have a very mission-critical project I'm working on! When I go to
make edits, nothing I try to delete deletes. I do it in the normal
way...make a selection, then press the backspace key just as I always have,
but nothing clears. If I undo the operation, it says "undo clear" but
nothing clears! The proper tracks are selected in the track table, but
that's not helping. I've tried all the edit modes as well, but to no avail.
Any help anyone could give would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's exactly what I did. I'm doing some tracking on the road, and didn't have
space for my extended keyboard. It's definitely a handy workaround. Loving the

CPU overload errors

2017-03-30 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hey guys!
This may sound super trivial, and I just recently started running into this
problem in earnest, but I'm getting a whole lot of CPU overload errors in
Pro Tools lately. The only thing I've done is switched to an Apollo Twin
Thunderbolt interface, which in theory should minimize such problems, as
I've switched away from the USB completely. I've committed all my software
instruments, and when I open the CPU meter, it's not taxing it heavily at
all. I've also optimized my Mac like Avid's web site said, so everything
looks good on that angle. Also, I've substantially decreased the levels of
undo, which should theoretically increase memory. I play back far more
complex tracks in Logic with no problems, so why is Pro Tools being a pain?
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Waves installation?

2017-03-01 Thread Jesse Kragiel
In other words, make the mouse pointer as accessible on Mac as Jaws used to on
the PC. Yes, the elements would have to be accessible to VO, but there should
be a way to make them so. At this point, if we can't get to something with the
keyboard in VO, then VO won't read its elements with the mouse either.

Re: Waves installation?

2017-03-01 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Chris, a few things actually stand in the way. One of them is the
cross-platform nature of the plugins. They write the foundational code once to
make it work in both Mac and Windows. The other thing is that they run within
what ever host they're installed in. The other hurtle is that Apple itself has
not made the mouse pointer accessible at all. If there were a way for us to
actually hear what was under the mouse, then there's probably a lot more we
could actually do regarding many plugins that sighted people take for granted.
The first line of questioning may need to go to Apple, as an accessible way to
move and hear what the mouse pointer lands on could really make a difference.
Waves has a large install base, and very little of it is blind. They're
completely aware of their software's limitations, and are doing what they can
to help us, including even expressing interest in doing so. You forget that
just a few years ago, neither Logic nor Pro Tools were accessible for us at
all! Windows users still can't enjoy PT, and the Sonar solution we used to
enjoy is now 6 or 7 versions out of date. I'd say access has come a long way,
and first and foremost, we should be thankful for what we have, while
continuing to encourage developers to work on solutions for us. We got here,
not because we were bullies, but because we were politely expressive in wanting
access.

You still need sighted assistance for Waves Central which installs and

Waves Plugins with Flo Tools

2017-02-28 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hey y'all! Does anyone know if it's possible to create some sort of plugin
view where the Waves tool bar is accessible with Flo Tools to load plugin
presets and such things? I've gotten sighted people to click on the load
screen, and a menu comes up that's accessible with Voiceover, but getting
there independently is a different story altogether. The Waves stuff sounds
better than anything else I have, and I'd even love to use the IR reverbs,
but at this point, that's impossible since we have no way of loading
impulse files. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Structure not working correctly! Help!!!!!

2017-02-25 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hello list! When I load a Structure patch, the beginning of the sample
plays, but nothing else. It was working fine the other day, but something
has happened. For instance, if I load a piano, I get the attack of the
sound, the effect, and nothing else. Drums sound like popcorn, and even
samples like organs, which are continuous just play the beginning, and
nothing else. Kinda hard to explain, but I hope you get my point. Any help
would be super appreciated.

Re: Waves plugins and presets

2016-12-16 Thread Jesse Kragiel
What I wouldn't give for some good Waves presets to be available...I just
want some to get me started. I have the Gold Bundle, and like you, I can
get them in Logic, but there's noting in Pro Tools because PT handles
presets in a different way.

Editing problem, please please help!

2016-07-18 Thread Jesse Kragiel
When I edit a track, say a vocal, instead of just keeping everything in
time, time is deleted from the vocal. For instance, if I'm trimming the
noise from the beginning of the vocal, and select from the start of the
song to the start of the vocal and press delete, instead of just deleting
all the data I don't want, it actually is moving the vocal back to the
beginning of the song, making it out of sync with the music. It only does
this in certain files, and others work just fine. What could be the
problem, and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Jesse

Re: logic and pt.

2016-05-31 Thread Jesse Kragiel
I usually just do all my midi work in Logic, get it right, and export it as
wav files into Pro Tools. The main exception would be my piano tracks, and
a few other instruments that are far more accessible using PT. I've
imported and exported midi as well, but it's just a little sketchy. Also,
if you're used to PT's keyboard commands, you can set Logic up to use them
as well. There's a predefined template in Logic, and while not all of them
work in quite the same way, it sure saves me some confusion in the long
run. HTH

Vocallign

2016-05-31 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Does anyone know if Vocallign is accessible, and if not, is there a plugin
out there to align all the vocals in a group with each other? I have a trio
that needs just a bit of tightening. I've done several vocal takes with
them, and they can't seem to get the concept of phrasing just right.

Re: OT:88 key workstation user friendly suggestions? KDR replacement? iOS control, Logic with PT?

2016-03-23 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Cameron, I'd tend to agree with Ricky here, as Logic's built-in sounds beat the
pants off most hardware stuff on the market. That said though, I feel your pain
where hardware keyboards go. I still have a K2600 and can use KDR with it, but
having fully converted to the Mac and discovered how much easier PT is than
Sonar, have embraced it, all my K2600 is good for now are orchestral voices
which are still absolutely killer! For a modern solution, consider the Yamaha
MOXF8. It's the Motif minus the sampler and sequencer, and if you can do some
memorization, you can get around the interface. Other than that, the stage
piano/module combo works, although you said you didn't want to go that route.
Hope that help

Re: Vocal tuning

I bought the Waves Gold bundle, and it came with Tune, but other than just
throwing it in there and letting it do its thing chromatically, I haven't found
a way to alter any of the parameters. Autotune it is then.

Re: Vocal tuning

2016-03-08 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Ok, how would it work buying it from somewhere like that? In EFX, I like how
you can turn on and off notes in the scale. For instance, the client I have up
is singing in F, but there's a D-flat in the song, and I was able to add that
note to the scale, and still keep her vocal in a major tuning. Super cool! I
didn't have near this much control in Sonar!

The way I'm looking at things, EFX3 is basically Autotune 7 without the
graphical interface, Live is 8 without FlexTune, and the way my demo's looking,
that's inaccessible to us anyway. I'll probably buy a license for Live so I can
still have the formant controls if I need them, but it seems a bit ridiculous
to buy the full-function plug-in if we can't get at the features that makes it
so advanced. Any thoughts?

Lol that goes without saying! I have been recording since open reels, and we
had no pitch correction then! Arguably the best music was made before pitch and
time correction ever were invented. I still don't like to quantize much in my
sequencing, but for this new bunch of singers we track... I digress! Lol

Re: logic

2016-03-01 Thread Jesse Kragiel
Hi Steve, I used logic before purchasing Pro Tools, and I still will for some
of my midi work. In fact, if you're used to PT key commands, there's already a
built-in template to use the same commands in Logic. Not sure exactly how far
that extends, as I haven't tried editing audio, but they're there. It has good
bouncing and exporting functions, so it's no problem to import your projects
into PT to record your audio stuff. The stock instruments in Logic are
fantastic, which, I'm afraid, is not necessarily the case in PT, but I've found
PT gives Voiceover users better editing and mixing control
