Many thanks Robin, and to others

That's really helpful info. These things are easy when you know but can
seem very mysterious, and tips like that which can save precious time
and money are one of the great things about lists like this, so thanks
again to you and others for taking the time to reply.

Best,

Peter

Hi Peter,
you definitely don’t have to wait until Avid has new iLok keys in stock. Instead, you
could try looking around on Amazon, that’s how I got mine in about 24 hours. Once you
received your iLok, you can create an account on the ilok.com
website and download the License Manager from there.
The License Manager is basically used to register your new iLok dongle to your
account and to transfer new licenses onto the dongle, this is something which
used to be inaccessible with VO but has fortunately become accessible thanks to
the latest License Manager upgrade!
Once you’re set up with your ilok.com account and dongle,
you can either purchase PT directly, or you can get a free 30-day trial to get a
first impression before spending the money.
Good luck, HTH!
Best regards,
Robin

Peter,

I bought PT and the iLok through Sweetwater. I am not sure where in
the UK you can do this.
Have you tried calling Avid?

Re: Buying ProTools and iLok

You can buy the iLk from anywhere that sells it and not specifically from avid.
Any music store that sells pro tools will usually sell ilk’s on their own and
usually there is a package that includes pro tools with an iLk that stores have
as well. Not sure that its something a general computer store would have
however, and perhaps the iLk site sells them as well.

Buying ProTools and iLok

2016-01-28 Thread Peter Bosher

Hi All,

I've been trying to buy a subscription to PT 12.4 on the Avid website,
but this requires iLok details, and when I add the iLok smart key to the
cart it shows as out of stock. As I'm completely new to iLok, please
could somebody tell me whether I can buy the smart key in a computer
store, in the UK, or should I try the iLok websited, or wait until it's
back in stock through AVID. In short, what's the simplest way to do this?

Best,

Peter
