ok. i’ve only come in half way through this thread. I have the m c u pro. I’ve
not yet tried to use it to alter plugging settings. Just something i’ve not yet
got around to doing. How ever are you saying that without the flip to fader
mode, i will not be able to change any plugging settings with this surface
using protools. If this is the case, than that’s fine, i’d just like to know
for future reference. Maybe i’ll need a different surface at some stage.

Re: Digi 003

2016-02-08 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Steve,

You should still be able to access parameters but they simply wouldn't be
mapped to the faders but rather the encoder knobs. The nice thing about fader
flip mode is that you have a tactile representation of the parameter values and
can easily detect switches because they're either fully down or fully up as in
off and on.

 Hi Matthew,

 Thanks for writing!

Unfortunately with using the HUI mode on the MCU Pro for Pro Tools
does not have a flip to fader feature. Now if you are using Logic,
Tracktion, Cubase or other DAWs that use either Mackie Control or
Logic Control you will be able to use the flip to fader feature.
Unfortunately there are more functionality limitations with HUI
because Avid has not updated the protocol communication between the
MCU and Pro Tools. Avid hasn’t really done any updates to HUI
implementation since Avid has their own control surfaces that use the
 EUCON protocol.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Re: Digi 003

2016-02-08 Thread Ricky Prevatte
So to recap, going to mention logic Pro X here. My purpose in purchasing a 003
was to use it in ProTools 11 or 12 and also to be able to bounce over to logic
Pro X. If we are to use flip mode it will not work unless we have an avid
product specifically for ProTools. If you have that then it most likely will
not work in flip mode in logic Pro X. We get in coders for ProTools with the
Mackie and flip mode for logic Pro X with the Mackie. I am waiting to get my
money back for my 003 then I can make a decision as to what I may purchase for
my control surface for both platforms.

All the best,

Technical Support

I was wrong Kevin it is not fadeer flip. He was making parameter changes with

thank you mr. Reeves that is exactly what I was needing to know. I'm going to
place an order for a unit as soon as my money is refunded from the 003. Does
anyone know how much the Mackie unit has changed in the last 10 years?
My reasoning for this question is to find out if I can get a $400 oh unit or do
I need to buy the open box that I've found.g

On this issue of Fader Flip. Could you possibly locate that video you

Slau, right on. Unfortunately, when I am in Plugin view, the Fader
flip won't activate at all! I've googled and youtubed this on
mainstream forums, and at least as far as I'm able to dig up, I'm not
alone in this finding. I sent an email to Mackie a year ago or so
asking for clarity but didn't get a response. Perhaps, I'll knock a
second time.
Thanks as always!

I've got a Mackie Control pro here and it works fantastically with Pro
Tools.
Since it is a control surface only, you should not have any problems
with running it along side your Studiolive.

When the machine is booted up for the first time, it defaults to logic mode.

The manual, which is very short and concise, tells you ghow to boot b
ack and forth between Pro Tools and logic protocols.

It's incredibly easy.

You'll love it.

Fader flip mode itself simply means that what's normally on the encoders gets
shifted down to the faders so it can be send levels, pan or plug-in parameters.
In addition to getting into fader flip mode itself, you have to be in the
correct focus, whether it's plug-in or pan, send, etc. Hope that helps.

Re: Digi 003

2016-02-01 Thread Matt Diemert
I used a Maki extensively in the recording process, from arming tracks, to
adjusting faders on the fly, to obviously being able to use punch mode, solos
and mutes. As far as mixing goes I do use it a good bit but more so for
creating a static mix, with volume faders and panning. Obviously, it comes in
handy when using automation! While I have found it to work with the plug-ins,
because it does not flip the faders, I typically use more of a keyboard
approach to plug-ins.

That's funny, I was under the impression that the Mackie surfaces supported
fader flip mode. Hmm… I thought it was part of the normal HUI protocol. Perhaps
I'm wrong.

It’s A so the are known for their mic press and the 4 band eq on th board.
The converters seemed very nice in my experience. Unlike the Studio live from
presounus its an analog mixer with the audio not going digital till it hits the
Firewire bus. The StudioLive is digital so it gets converted to digit as soon
as the signal hits the mic press.

Sounds kind of like my Mackie Onyx board. I have both the Onyx, 003 and a 002
sitting around, but I am still contemplating getting something else if I could
justify it. The thing with the 003 is that even though it is rock solid on PT,
it doesn't seem to be as user friendly on other daws, the problem with the onyx
is that it is not considered a full surface,.

That X32 was the talk of the town in the blind community for a while, but I
myself have a love hate relationship with Beranger and would rather not buy
anymore gear from them, now if I find something in a pawn shop for pennies on
the dollar I may toss it in the gear locker. At this point having an ADAT is an
almost must have for any interface that I consider. Well, thanks for the info,
I will have to check out some sound demos on YouTube and see if I can get a
feel for the overall sound quality.

Rickey,

In all honesty I thjink the list needs to know the rest of the story.

When I tried to work with you over the weekend, you were unable to re-route the
output. It still displayed ch1/2 which according to you those are Presonus.

Having said that, there are some Personus prefs hanging the Digi003.

You were advised to delete them and a Google search explained where the prefs
are located and steps on removing.

I will try and work it out it is going to be a big opportunity to adapt and
change everything. Presonus Mike pres are wonderful but no automation, no
control surface overall and no plug in work. I will have to adapt I can always
use the mixer for live application and work out a way to expand the studio when
I track a bigger band.

Hi Cliff,

I think everybody can sympathize with wanting to get up and running as fast as
possible. There are two things that come to mind based on what you've just
written. If you're running on a fresh install, Spotlight will certainly spend a
bunch of time indexing any drives connected to the machine including the
internal drive. That might be the cause of initial CPU load if you just
installed the OS and tried to run Pro Tools early on.

More importantly, did you follow the Intro to Pro Tools system setup
instructions including turning off Spotlight indexing for recording drives?
Speaking of which, are you trying to record to an internal drive?

2014-05-13 Thread Cliff Isaksen
Ahhh...

I was trying to record to an internal drive earlier on when the CPU usage was
sky high! That might be the reason why it has gone from 120 to 70 % now, since
I've formatted an old drive for exclusive pro tools use.
But I don't think this drive even is the best either for PT use... Well, that
might be it, even though I didn't see anything like it when trying the same in
PT 10... :)
Anyways, I'm making a Mavericks installer USB as we speak, and will do a
completely fresh Mavericks install in a few minutes, cause I installed Digi 003
drivers for PT 10 in MountainLion, and after that didn't work out, I upgraded
to Mavericks and installed PT 11 and the corresponding 003 drivers. I see that
some have said that having both 003 drivers installed at the same time may
cause some glitches and hick-ups, so now I'm just starting fresh on everything
again! :)
Lets see if that might cause things to work a little bit smoother... :)
I'll rather take the work now than to get 2 tracks down tomorrow and then have
to do the work anyways! :)
Thank you again for all your kind help! :)

Re: Digi 003 questions

2014-05-04 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Cliff,

I've had a 003 knocking around the studio for a while, actually, since Pro
Tools version 9 so there was never any need to install drivers, per se. I
haven't used it with version 11 so I can't say whether there's any need for
installing drivers of any kind. Others with 003s might be able to comment on
that. The 003 is not my primary system so I'm not up on the latest
news/requirements with that interface.

Best,

Slau

Re: Digi 003 questions

2014-05-04 Thread Alan Macdonald
Hi cliff,

I have recently upgraded from pro tools nine to eleven. I use a Digi 002. It
was indeed plug and play with version nine but I had to install the drivers to
get it up and running with PT eleven. Its an easy download from the Avid
website though and you'll be up and running quickly with minimum fuss.

Re: Digi 003 questions

2014-05-04 Thread Cliff Isaksen
Hi and thanks both of you!
Since PT 11 for some weird reason is eating up 120 % of my CPU, I'm using
PT 10 as long as possible, so I'll probably just have to try and see if I
can use the Digi 003 first without installing any drivers. And if that
won't work, I'll have to take a look at the avid website and see if I can
find it! :)
I was at first thinking about something more expensive like a C24 or a
D-Command as my controller, but the thing is, I really don't have enough
room for it in my little home studio, so the Digi 003 seemed to be a good
option for a not THAT big expense as the others, that are more on the
expensive side...
Well, wish me luck... Really looking forwards to laying my hands on a real
controller surface now!
Kind regards from Tired-of-interacting-Cliff

Hi, Yes you will need to install the digi 003 drivers for 10 and 11. I
am not sure if you need both but I had a person from Avid remote into my

Hi Ramy,

It's not clear to whom you were addressing your previous message so I thought
I'd chime in. There's nothing offered in the way of scrub/shuttle wheels. There
was a product that attempted it with a number of buttons and a central wheel
but the wheel didn't operate smoothly. I'm not sure but I think the Artist
series has a transport control with a scrub wheel. Of course, hardware is
expensive, there's no getting around that.

2014-04-20 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hey,
Just for your information and i hope this is not considered hijacking of this
thread since i actually talk about the Digi003. I'm trying to make the 003 work
with an app called Surface Reader which can read displays of the surface and
tell about what buttons and such are but i think i may need some help with this
so if anyone wants to help make the Digi003 accessible with the Surface reader
you could consider joining the surfacereader mailing list and share your
knowledge of the Digi003 there.
If memory serves me correctly you can get to the mailing list from
www.raisedbar.net (bit unsure of the spelling there).

Re: digi 003 unable to setup inputs and outputs as pro tools 10.0.1 crashes

 Nick,

First thing you need to do when you launch Pro Tools is to go to the
Playback Engine dialog under Setups and select the 003 as your playback
engine. Then go to the I/O Setup, choose the first Tab with Command-1 on
the numbers row, select all inputs with Command-a, find the Delete Path
button and press it. You'll be prompted and just say you want to delete all
the paths. Then click the default button in the I/O Setup dialog. This will
create a new set of paths that are the default paths for your device.

After that, press Command-2 to get into the next Tab and do the same
process for your outputs. When you're done, it might not be a bad idea to
export your settings for future reference in case anything gets screwed up.

You should be good to go.

Hi, I have pro tools 10.0.1 on my mac book pro running lion 10.7.3 and
have installed the drivers for the digi 003 that came with pro tools 10. I
set the playback engine to the digi 003 and now it makes clicking noises.
Now if I go to the IO settings dialog in the setup menu and try to select
any tab pro tools crashes and I get the problem reporter dialog which of
course I do send in to have it looked at. The reason I go into the IO
settings dialog is because if I just make an audio track in both input and
output selection I still only see the internal mac book pro microphone and
line in not the digi 003 inputs and outputs. My question is has anyone
else gotten the digi 003 working under lion using an external hard drive as
a hub as my mac book pro 17 inch late model 2011 has only a firewire 800
port and the digi 003 has only a firewire 400 port? Nick Gawronski

Re: digi 003 unable to setup inputs and outputs as pro tools 10.0.1 crashes

2012-03-28 Thread Nick Gawronski
Hi, Where can I get this getting started guide as the only thing that
came with it was the pro tools LE discs which I don't want to install as
I already have pro tools 10? Does avid still support the digi 003 and
could they remote into my mac book pro if they needed to change any
settings? I am still trying to track down someone local who can help me
with setting this up as it is rather large to be taking to school and
home to get trained on how to use it and once I understand how the
device works I am pritty good at learning the rest. Nick Gawronski

Nick,

Your 003 has 8 analog and 8 digital inputs and outputs. You have a choice of
mic or line input for the first four I/Os but can't use both for a single I/O
channel. On board, you can use either mic or line inputs for the first 4
channels and line inputs for the second 4 channels. The digital channels are
accessed through ADAT LightPipe so you'd need an external A/D converter for
that.

I'm not sure why you're getting a clock error. If you just bought your 003, you're
entitled to technical support from Avid so you may want to take advantage of that. It
could be any one of several things. I also urge you to read the manuals closely,
especially the getting Started guides for setup instructions and follow them
carefully.

Keep us posted on your progress,

The 003 does not determine sample rate. sample rate is set when you create a session and,
therefore, cannot be changed on the fly. You'd have to use the Save Copy In?
command to save the session in a different sample rate.

Is analog outputs 1 and 2 the headphone plugs or does it automatically go to
them if I did not change any other settings and what inputs are the microphone
and normal line in ones so I know? Nick Gawronski
Anything routed to your main stereo pair will also show up on your headphone
jacks which are located at the front right bottom of the unit closest to you.
The Mic inputs are obviously the 4 XLR jacks and the line inputs are beneath
them and are quarter-inch jacks. You set the input selection on the 003 by
pushing the Mic/Line button below the gain knobs.

Hi, I only have the pro tools 10 documentation located under the help
menu nothing just on the digi 003. I did not install the pro tools LE
that came with the digi 003 as I had the newer version and drivers
already installed as when I orderd the digi 003 I just installed the
drivers that came with pro tools 10 not the ones that came with the digi
003. Are there any manuals just on the digi 003 other then the layout
document that tells where the keys and controls are? Nick Gawronski

2012-03-28 Thread Steve Martin
if you look in the degidesign or avid folder in your applications folder, you
should finda documentations folder. In there you should find every manual for
every pro tools related product.
