Re: Using the Workspace window

2016-05-24 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Peter,

First, I haven't used Pro Tools 10 in a few years so I can't comment on that
item, although I'd venture that the Workspace is essentially unusable with
VoiceOver.

As far as version 12, it's probably possible to set up a situation where you
can click, drag and drop the files within a timeline but, I have to say, it
would take quite a bit of preparation. One thing you'd have to do is set up
your Edit window and the Workspace window to be either alongside each other or
above and below. This is not impossible but not easy either. I know that
Keyboard Maestro has some modules to resize windows but I don't recall whether
it contains any for resizing to window sides or halves. Ultimately, however,
you'd have to use Keyboard Maestro to move the mouse to a specific coordinate
after initiating a mouse-down on the file name in the Workspace window. Again,
it's the kind of thing that is most likely quite possible but would take a
bunch of prep and setup with Keyboard Maestro.

Re: Using the Workspace window

2016-05-20 Thread TheOreoMonster
WorksSpace wasn’t really accessible in version 9/10 which is what prompted me
to stop using PT as my daily DAW at the time as i work with a lot of loops in
general and the workspace is one of the few ways to import loop into a project
and and have it snap to the project tempo. Unfortunately from what i remember
as well you would have to drag it onto the time line out of the workspace which
while technically doable with voice over in pro tools you would have to drag
it onto the right track. I suppose if you have only that track visible you
maybe able to make it work better. One thing you could try which works in both
Logic/Garage Band and Reaper is if you copy an audio file in finder, you can
paste it into the project with cmd+V. Last i tried it didn’t work with Pro
Tools but work a try with v12.

Using the Workspace window

2016-05-20 Thread Peter Bosher
Hi All,

The sound effects library used in creating audio dramas contains hundreds of
gigabytes of material taken from hundreds of CD's. The Workspace window is
used to search through all those files, some of which have really unhelpful
file names, so it's vital to use the meta-data for searching. I have two
questions:

In PT version 12, I can use the Workspace window to carry out a search, and
then look through the list of results, click on an item, then on 'audition' to
hear them. Now, if I find one I want, the only way I know to bring it into the
session is by doing VO-Shift-M for its context menu, then 'reveal in Finder'.
Then I can use 'import audio' to find the file and bring it in. This seems a
bit clunky, though it does work, and this in itself is progress as it's taken
me a while to get this far. So, first question, is there an easier way to
bring a file into a session from the Workspace results?

Second question: in PT version 10, the Workspace seems to me to be completely
inaccessible. There are what seem like hundreds of buttons, which VO speaks
as 'equals' or 'less than', and a large number of lists and text fields with no
identification to say what they are for. So, was anybody ever able to use the
Workspace in version 10? If so, any tips?

Best,

Peter
