Contribution to World Environment Day - Energy Buildings Performance Scenarios launched as Linked Open Data
Dear all (apologise for cross-postings) Happy World Environment Day! Energy Buildings Performance Scenarios as Linked Open Data: As a contribution to the World Environment Day 2014 today, the GBPN ( http://www.gbpn.org) launches a new interactive tool implemented by SWC ( httP://www.semantic-web.at) for identifying the best possible policy scenarios for saving energy in the building sector worldwide. Users can conduct own analysis and generate charts and tables by selecting parameters corresponding to respective requirements. It is possible to download each of the data series as linked open data in RDF and as open data in CSV format. Data series are accessible via a SPARQL Endpoint (incl. a built-in query editor)... The next edition of the European Data Forum will take place on 19th and 20th of March 2014 in Athens, Greece. All information see: http://2014.data-forum.eu . Hereby we would like to invite you to submit your proposal for a presentation at the EDF2014 until 10th of December 2013 - see all relevant information below as well as on the Call for Contribution website here: http://bit.ly/EDF2014_CfC . Furthermore we would like to inform you that there is also a Call for Exhibition (CfE) in place already (see: http://bit.ly/EDF2014_CfE ) and that the EDF2014 is offering interesting sponsoring bundles for organisations, projects and enterprises (see: http://bit.ly/EDF2014_sponsoring ). Best regards - Martin Kaltenböck (General Chair of EDF2014) --- European Data Forum - EDF2014 - Call for Contributions The European Data Forum (EDF) is an annual meeting place for industry, research, policy makers, and community initiatives to discuss the challenges and opportunities of data in Europe , especially in the light of recent developments such as Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data . The forum balances technical (the technology and infrastructure needed to master the volume, heterogeneity and dynamicity of today’s data), application (new products and services that are now possible due to Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data), and socio-economic issues(social impact, legal issues, government policies and regulations, business models, commercialization and innovation in this new era). Our aim is to bring together all stakeholders involved in the data value chain to exchange ideas that address the above challenges and opportunities, in order to strengthen the European data economy and its positioning worldwide. Discussions at EDF provide input to research, development, and policy activities at the European Commission (e.g. Horizon 2020) and those of the EU member states, with the aim of influencing the development of the new European data economy. An additional goal of the European Data Forum is to establish and foster a truly European data community and ecosystem. This emerging community enables promising ideas to move from the stage of research questions all the way to successful deployment and market introduction. At the same time, its stakeholders will mutually reinforce their strategies that will result in a forward-looking, dynamic, and well-integrated EU-wide ecosystem. Because of the strategic importance of multilingualism in Europe, EDF 2014 will promote the integration and co-operation of the European data community and the language resources and technology community. The synergy of these communities is critical for new types of multilingual digital services and the creation of a European digital single market without language barriers. EDF 2014 will be held in Athens, Greece on March 19-20, 2014. The program will consist of a mixture of presentations, panels and networking sessions by industry, academics, policy makers, and community initiatives. Topics will cover a wide spectrum of research and technology development, applications, and socio-economic aspects of the data value chain. With this call for contributions, we are seeking inspiring presentations addressing the topics listed below: Innovative research and technology for Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data .) New data models, languages and system architectures .) Visualisation techniques .) Data and content analytics - data mining .) Semantic technologies and the Web of data .) Geospatial information and its importance in the new era .) Language resources and technologies in the new data value chain Applications .) Innovative Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data applications in different sectors of the European economy (geospatial, finance and insurance, health, energy, telecommunications etc.) .) Open Data, Linked Data and Big data for development (D4D - Data for Development) .) Particularly welcome in this year’s EDF are applications showcasing how governments and the public sector are making use and benefiting from Open Data, Linked Data and/or Big Data. Socio-economic and policy issues .) Economic and business models for new data markets .) Legal issues, policies and the European regulatory framework Cross-sector learning and collaboration for Open Data .) Security and privacy .) Data governance Data visions for the future We distinguish between the following types of presentations: .) In-use contribution : Presentations with a practical, industry- or user-oriented focus by representatives of technology providers, adopters, and user

Announcement of LOD2 webinars: Linked Data and SKOS, D2R and Sparqlify
Dear all (apologise for cross posting) the LOD2 team is happy to announce 2 free Linked Open Data tool webinars for April 2012 as follows! You can find the recorded LOD2 webinars and respective slides here: http://lod2.eu/BlogPost/webinar-series -Linked Data and SKOS-18.04.2012, 05.00pm CET- Knowledge organization systems like taxonomies or thesauri can benefit from linked data approaches and vice versa. In recent years SKOS became very popular in various industries due to its simplicity, not only for information retrieval purposes but also for knowledge modelling itself. For many organizations SKOS turned out to be the entry point to the Semantic Web. A rather novel approach is to use SKOS as means for data integration. In combination with RDF mapping and linked data alignment technologies complex knowledge bases can be built to use them for the following application scenarios which we will demonstrate by using the PoolParty platform. What : LOD2 webinar series: Linked Data and SKOS. Connecting the dots. Who : LOD2 project, presenter: Semantic Web Company, Austria When : 18.04. 2012, 05.00pm - 06.00pm CET Information & Registration: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/472512210 -D2R and Sparqlify-24.04.2012, 04.00pm CET- After several interesting webinars on components and services of the LOD2 Technology Stack we are preparing the next broadcast. D2R Server (Free University of Berlin) is a tool for publishing relational databases on the Semantic Web. It enables RDF and HTML browsers to navigate the content of the database, and allows applications to query the database using the SPARQL query language. Sparqlify (University of Leipzig) is a tool enabling one to define expressive RDF views on relational databases and query them with a subset of the SPARQL query language. By featuring a novel RDF view definition syntax, it aims at simplifying the RDB-RDF mapping process. What : LOD2 webinar series: D2R and Sparqlify Who : LOD2 project, presenter: Free University Berlin and University of Leipzig, both Germany When : 24.04. 2012, 04.00pm - 05.00pm CET Information & Registration: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/995893370 The LOD2 webinar series is powered by LOD2 - Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data ( http://lod2.eu ), organised & produced by Semantic Web Company ( http://www.semantic-web.at ), Austria. This series will provide a monthly webinar about Linked (Open) Data tools and services around the LOD2 project, the LOD2 Stack and the Linked Open Data Life Cycle, also in the form of 3rd party tools. Save the Date: the European Data Forum 2012 takes place 6-7 June 2012 in Copenhagen!
Dear all (and apologies for cross posting) The European Data Forum 2012 (EDF2012) is a meeting place for industry, research, policymakers and community initiatives to discuss the challenges of Big Data and the emerging Data Economy and to develop suitable action plans for addressing these challenges. Of special focus within the EDF are Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), since they are driving innovation and competition in many data-driven economic sectors. The range of topics discussed at the European Data Forum ranges from novel data-driven business models (e.g. data clearing houses), over technology innovations (e.g. Linked Data Web) to societal aspects (e.g. open governmental data as well as data privacy and security).
