However, the test only checked mtime/ctime on the master - which is unrelated to ctime/mtime of the target files on the agents - and the agent target files are what will be compared to the ctime/mtime of the source file to see if they need to be resynced. We could fix this by iterating over the agents - or assuming they'll always be done in order and only querying the last agent - to check the ctime/mtime stats of the target files using puppet resource file , but that's more complicated and unlikely to be significantly less than the 1 second sleep we used to have. Revert to the previous behavior of waiting 1 second to touch the files and try resyncing.

Unfortunately, we do not have a keyword preceding the 'when' clauses (i.e. no when, if we add that we could use that to delegate to a lambda to do the matching - e.g.
case [value1, value2] {

Not sure if the grammar is well-defined if we attempt to use a lambda there directly: i.e.
case [value1, value2] {
|$x, $y| { ... } : { }
}
The when keyword there does the same things as a lambda keyword does, and the evaluation rule is then that if a case option is a lambda, then it is used as a predicate, and the test arguments are used as if a splat operator was applied in the call. Adding a real lambda is not possible without rewriting scope, but in a special place like a case when would be doable (either with or without the when keyword.
Maybe that is a good enough compromise as it is easy to implement? (OCaml patterns are compiled, we do not have that constraint).

Full pattern matching in e.g. OCaml also allows variable binding and adding conditions based on those variables; there what you describe above, would look more like

I think that moving the condition into a when clause makes it easier to understand how variables are picked out and what the precise condition is. It also makes it possible to have conditions involving both $x and $y.
In OCaml, pattern matching can also be used to destructure data; have a look at this page especially the drop_zero example. I don't think though we need something that complex (yet)

I discovered a problem today when I ran one of my modules on a computer running Windows. The cause of the problem was non-US characters in the users home directory (aka userprofile). The non-US characters in question was å, ä and ö. My only way of solving this was to rename the user account on the computer to a name with only English characters.I managed to reproduce the problem with a minimal manifest that I include in this ticket. The manifest works fine if my user account is c:\Users\John but if I change it to c:\Users\Jöhn it destroys the Swedish character and instead outputs C:\Users\JA›ƒ,ªA?hnThis happens in an exec resource like this:{code} # This caused problem on Tommys computer. exec { 'tomcat-configure-service': command => "powershell.exe Get-ChildItem Env:", onlyif => 'powershell.exe exit 0', provider => windows, logoutput => true, #notify => $tomcat_service, tag => 'tomcat-configure-service', }{code}To reproduce the error I ran it like this on Windows in cmd.exe:{code}set USERNAME=Jöhnset USERPROFILE=C:\Users\JöhnM:\Virtual Machines\Puppet Windows development\synced_folder>puppet apply manifests\bug_swedish_userprofile.pp --test{code}In the output you can see the garbled text. I include the complete output in the attached file puppetrun.log. To also see it internally in Ruby I added logging to util.rb. Simply replace it in C:\Program Files\Puppet Labs\Puppet Enterprise\puppet\lib\puppet with mine.This problem is a serious road block for running this in production so I would like to see it prioritized.

And that initially it wouldn't need the "upgrade" value of the installation type axis. And so a new job was preferable to a fourth (sparse) matrix axes. We need to up some way to extract our archives on a Windows slave (QENG-2124) We need to get Vanagon (and the Windows build script) to accept our archives instead of cloning every component (RE-4237) We do this for the modules currently (zero usage of the mirror) and I don't recall a failure from git checkouts occurring in recent memory. However those are relatively small repositories. I didn't realize this would be problematic and deployed the AIO pipelines using a similar configuration, (Josh has requested that we start using the mirror in the AIO pipeline in QENG-1855 – though it should be mentioned that failures noted in that ticket are from Vanagon's cloning behavior and will be resolved by RE-4237).
