Judging from PR-4188, this is actually implemented so that the key can be an array of capability resources. I would like this to change since I think it's a combination of two bad practices.
1. It's generally inefficient to use arrays as keys in a hash. 2. The code gets polluted in several places since no assumptions can be made regarding which side the node (which IMO is the key) can be found.
I don't find any rationale for this design. Can you please explain why it's done this way?

My objection was not to the fact that the value can be a single entry or an array. That's great. But it gets very strange when combined with "it does not matter on which side the node appears". Why would we ever allow nodes on the RHS in the map? If we do, do we also allow that the key is an array of resources?

Jira (PUP-5011) Helper methods for enumerating manifest files in environments

  Re: Helper methods for enumerating manifest files in environments

Christopher Price - I think given the performance / locking issues that we've seen around parsing large numbers of manifests across a complex code deployment, I'm onboard now with what you and Henrik Lindberg have been discussing about trying to do as much work as possible around manifest enumeration / determination of manifests that need to be parsed following a code change at the Clojure level - even if it means that we end up having to duplicate some of the logic in Clojure which is already done in the core Ruby Puppet implementation.
I think Henrik Lindberg's suggestion that a common specification for determining which files need to be parsed - informed by how the autoloader currently works - makes sense as the next step.
Henrik Lindberg - do you think it makes sense at this point to create a new PUP ticket describing the work to be done to create this specification? I can create that ticket and then we can discuss from there what team should own it.

 When the configured_environment property was added to node and catalog communication, it was always set even when accepting the default. This was less useful than intended, as a node classifier may expect to know whether the agent explicitly requested that environment or is using the default. Change to only set the configured_environment property if an environment was explicitly requested on the agent, i.e. via puppet.conf or the command-line.

I am perfectly fine with restrcting nodes to the RHS of the hash, i.e. insisting that the keys are individual nodes.

Some custom providers require gems that might be missing. Installing gems using gem package provider does not clear gem environment paths and therefore installed gems are not available during the runtime they were installed at.
Suggestion: Add parameter for package provider to allow gem environment reset.

The Auto Loader is described in the specification here https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet-specifications/blob/master/language/modus-operandi.md#auto-loading - it could do with more detail.

  Re: Helper methods for enumerating manifest files in environments

Henrik Lindberg, I was hoping that the "specification" we're talking about in this case would get down to the level of describing the exact set of directories/files that should be scanned for classes - including details we described earlier in this comment thread like the fact that files/directories which contain "illegal" characters are ignored (and what the legal characters are). Basically, it would include the precise level of definition that we'd need to have in order to know how to write the Clojure code in Puppet Server that would put together the map of environments -> files that we have to pass along to the classes_per_environments helper that you provided in

PUP-4819
. Does that make sense? If so, would it make sense for me to submit a separate PUP ticket requesting the creation / maintenance of that spec?

/etc/fstab doesn't exist on Solaris. The alternative seems to be /etc/vfstab (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1459/fscreate-6.html), but there are other issues with these tests on Solaris as well.

Currently the PuppetDB CI always uses the latest SNAPSHOT of PuppetDB even on rebuilds of the unit test style jobs. "One way i can think of to fix this would be to explicitly add a DEPLIST parameter to the unit test style job so that it retains that information for rebuilds" - Wayne "Master of Things" Warren

The simplest approach is to install stat on the Solaris 10 test VMs.
Alternatively, we could change the stat helper to

  def stat(host, path)

owner, group, mode =

  if host['platform'] =~ /solaris-10/

stats = on(host, "ls -ld #{path}").stdout.split

Jeff Bachtel In future builds we're going to set that value to something more sane by default, but you can use the openssl environment variables (SSL_CERT_FILE, SSL_CERT_DIR, etc) to set it to what you need for your usage.
I'll resolve this ticket for now, but please feel free to comment/reopen if this doesn't satisfy your requirements.

Kylo Ginsberg thanks. Do we have a protocol for this sort of thing? I'd have no problem with bringing it into my team's sprint and running it through to the end of the board, but if it's in "ready for test" and is going to get some QA review at this point, it might make more sense for it to be reviewed by PUP QA rather than SERVER QA? I'm happy to do it whichever way you think is best.

Jira (PUP-5097) Hostname and Domain as trusted facts

  Re: Hostname and Domain as trusted facts

The same thing happens on the fileserver :

The path can contain any or all of %h, %H, and %d, which are dynamically replaced by the client’s hostname, its fully qualified domain name and its domain name, respectively. All are taken from the client’s SSL certificate (so be careful if you’ve got hostname/certname mismatches). This is useful in creating modules where files for each client are kept completely separately, e.g. for private ssh host keys.

And users seems to be okay with it ...
I'm fine with renaming the labels but it should not change the content. Like you said, if we can't piece them together the Hiera use case no longer exists.
