Jira (PUP-481) Make variable references strict by default
Title: Message Title Nick Walker commented on PUP-481 Re: Make variable references strict by default Eric Sorenson I think we're missing an opportunity if we don't move to this being the default. I want to tell users to enable strict_variables but unless the popular forge modules abide by strict_variables then a customer can't enable it. If we don't have a path to making strict_variables the common use-case then it's not useful. I guess my point is that it's not actually opt-in unless all of the already provided content on the forge abides by strict_variables and the you are actually deciding whether to enable it for your own code. I could get on board with making strict_variables emit warnings by default though. Warnings are loud enough to get attention and they solve a common problem I've had which is typoing a variable and not realizing it for a while because the typoed variable is just undef and I don't realize it. Jira (PUP-7457) Differing behavior between manual puppet run and daemon agent run
Title: Message Title Moses Mendoza commented on PUP-7457 Re: Differing behavior between manual puppet run and daemon agent run thanks for filing Michael McCormac. Would you mind attaching the full log from `puppet agent t -v` except also add the ` -debug` flag? the log from a run of the agent after you (temporarily) set the log level for puppet running via the daemon to `debug`, ie `puppet config set log_level debug` ? (of course redact private info if any) This may help narrow down what you're seeing.. It first guess I lean toward wondering if one of the default flags enabled by `-t` is changing the behavior when run via `puppet agent` vs daemon, or if a setting or modulepath is different when run via ad-hoc vs daemon. When you run `puppet agent -t` are you running as root? Jira (PUP-7458) Unclear meaning of default in a array in a case statement
Title: Message Title Henrik Lindberg commented on PUP-7458 Re: Unclear meaning of default in a array in a case statement A case proposition of default is specified to be picked last. When default appears as a literal value anywhere else (nested in arrays or hashes) it is simply a "wildcard" value that matches against anything. When used this way, the order of the options/propositions matter - as shown by the example where the first option matches. The specification of the Case _expression_ can be read here https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet-specifications/blob/master/language/expressions.md#case-_expression_ Closing this as "won't do" as it works as specified. Jira (PUP-6675) Puppet::Util::Execution.execute 'hostname' returns nothing as daemon
Title: Message Title Michael Smith commented on PUP-6675 Re: Puppet::Util::Execution.execute 'hostname' returns nothing as daemon I have some question around whether this should be solved by documentation about configuring the openshift_selinux policy for mcollective to be more permissive, or by changing how Puppet executes commands. I'm concerned that if Puppet is triggered from this policy, it won't have appropriate permissions to do other things (like writing to something in /tmp). I'm going to experiment more to see whether the policy is a larger problem for mcollective use-cases, or just particular to this scenario.
