 Vince Allen Can you confirm that the file "/var/run/upstart-socket-bridge.pid" does not exist on your centos6 node that is using upstart? If so, are you aware of any other file that would indicate when upstart is in use?

 This is still a problem on EL7 hosts, in 2018. Original report date was 11/02/2010.   There are a number of `group` sub-commands in EL7 that support group package actions.   Is it possible this can be looked at again?

Jira (PUP-9007) Follow directory symlinks under manifest tree.

  Re: Follow directory symlinks under manifest tree.

 I understand your points. The use case: I have a puppet-2.7-era large repository that's storing many puppet classes and functions. That repo is rsync'ed to other machines, all of them having specific "configuration" .pp} files; those machines then do local {{puppet apply (there is no master-slave setup). I used to do it with import, but now I cannot anymore with recent versions of puppet. Being able to symlink to the “configuration” directory would solve my problem for now. (I appreciate the issues related to symlink handling; yet, I cannot recall another tool I've used that behaves differently when given a symlink, when a directory was expected; in my humble opinion those matters belongs to the filesystem layer).

Jira (PUP-9007) Follow directory symlinks under manifest tree.

  Re: Follow directory symlinks under manifest tree.

 I think documentation should point out that it does not allow symlinks. The feature to allow loading a directory was put in place to remove the support for importing arbitrary files as "import" often resulted in misuse and ending up with a mess. Therefore, something has gone wrong in the design if there is the need to use symlinks - there are far better ways to organize the code and adding variability. Maybe this is for a special use case where symlink is a valid solution, so please elaborate on why this is needed. Globs and symlinks are tricky because symlinks can form an infinite loop and we would need a far slower file tree walker with recursion guard in order to safely traverse symlinks.

 When doing a puppet apply /path/to/directory, main documentation indicates that subdirectories are supposed to be parsed. If a subdirectory happens to be a symlink, it is currently not followed, due to behavior of Ruby's globbing mechanism.

 If there is a way to validate during compilation, then we may want to make the same change to PUP-7534, when using the content property to specify a checksum.

 The following will generate a deprecation warning on the agent when applying a catalog with source_permissions set. However, I think ideally we want the deprecation warning emitted during compilation. Henrik Lindberg does the pops validator support issuing deprecation warnings for specific properties/parameters?

 Currently, the -boltdir and configfile options both set the path to the config file, whereas -boltdir should set the Boltdir location. These two flags should be considered conflicting, since the purpose of a Boltdir is to encapsulate a config file. When --configfile is When --boltdir is set, the config file should be loaded automatically from bolt.yaml inside the Boltdir. The inventory and modulepath should default to locations inside the Boltdir as well (inventory.yaml and modules/). When --configfile is set, the Boltdir should be set to the directory that contains the config file. The inventory and modulepath should then default to locations inside this newly-determined Boltdir (inventory.yaml and modules/). When both -boltdir and -configfile are set, the CLI should return an error.

 *As a* PE console UI developer*I want* to be able to use Orchestrators SSL certs to create an HTTPS connection to the bolt server*So that* I can have a secure connection without having to create and manage new certificates The bolt transport api should run over ssl SSL by default. The client should accept an ssl certificate (content not filepath) with the ` {{ --cert ` }} flag on startup and use the cert to authenticate future requests from the client. The certificate should be passed directly to the sinatra server and stored in memory as a variable there.Security-wise, we need to either accept only localhost, or have full SSL configuration (ca cert, cert, private key).Questions: - For now should we require that a cert be specified to run?

 *As a* bolt transport service user*I want* to configure the sinatra server*So that* I'm not pinned to the default port, and can use my own SSL certificates There isn't currently a way to configure the bolt transport  api  server  each time it's run from the caller.  {{pe-  bolt-server }}  should read HOCON config from {{/etc/puppetlabs/bolt-server/conf.d/*.conf}}. To verify this works the first option to pass in should be "port", to configure the port the transport api should run on.Load and merge all conf files in conf.d.{code}webserver: {  port: 1234}{code}

Release Notes Summary:
 When the agent is configured with a list of servers (via server_list), it will now request server status from the "status" endpoint instead of the "node" endpoint. The latter causes a puppetdb query, which adds server load and is not necessary when determining if the server is up.

Release Notes Summary:
 Features now behave consistently when passed a block:Puppet.features.add(:my_feature) do  # some codeendor an explicit list of ruby libraries:Puppet.features.add(:my_feature, libs: ['my_lib'])By default, puppet's feature subsystem does not cache misses, as the feature may become true while applying a catalog. However, if always_retry_plugins is false, then both the block and non-block forms will cache misses, which is important for puppetserver.
