 When Bolt applies a catalog, the custom facts and features defined in modules don't appear to be available for providers to do confine checks on. I'm running into this trying to apply a simple IIS example from https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-iis#beginning-with-puppetlabs-iis, where I get Could not find a suitable provider for iis_site. This seems to happen because iis_version (a custom fact) is not available during the apply and the iis_web_server feature isn't loaded.

 Our preferred method to solve this would be to use Windows package manager such as Chocolatey. For example, for MSIs which don't support upgrades, this is really the problem for the package manager not Puppet, which is integrating with the manager.

 When task metadata specifies files that the task depends on bolt should package those and upload them to the target before executing the task. Changes

Copy the files into the correct location in installdir on the target after determining the implementation to use.
pass the path to the installdir as _installdir to the task
 Questions

Should puppet add full paths and or shas to the TaskSignature before it hands it back?
Should bolt use the directory upload functionality or just copy files one by one?

 *As a* PE console UI developer*I want* to be able to use Orchestrators SSL certs to create an HTTPS connection to the bolt server*So that* I can have a secure connection without having to create and manage new certificatesThe bolt transport api should run over SSL by default. It should use existing ssl certificates (see orch for prior art), and use the configured cert, key, and ca to establish an ssl connection. Questions: - For now should we require that a cert be specified to run? Yes- Do we need a whitelist? Yes new ticket

The client should accept an ssl certificate (content not filepath) with the {{cert}} key and use the cert to authenticate future requests from the client. The certificate should be passed directly to the web server and stored in memory as a variable there. We should also pass a whitelist of nodes that the bolt-server can connect to with the {{whitelist}} key.Questions: - For now should we require that a cert be specified to run? Yes - Do we need a whitelist?

 *As a* PE console UI developer*I want* to be able to use Orchestrators SSL certs to create an HTTPS connection to the bolt server*So that* I can have a secure connection without having to create and manage new certificatesThe bolt transport api should run over SSL by default. The client should accept an ssl certificate (content not filepath) with the {{cert}} key and use the cert to authenticate future requests from the client. The certificate should be passed directly to the sinatra web server and stored in memory as a variable there. We should also pass a whitelist of nodes that the bolt-server can connect to with the {{whitelist}} key. Questions: - For now should we require that a cert be specified to run? Yes

 If apply_prep fails trying to run a task - for example if trying to run puppet_agent::install on a Windows target that doesn't yet have that implemented - it errors in a less useful manner

 On Linux the dmi.product.uuid fact returns a UUID of the system. This value is not provided by Facter for Windows systems, but it is available and should be returned as it is often an important unique identifier for the system. It is available as the 'UUID' property on the WMI ComputerSystemProduct class (which is already accessed for retrieving the dmi.product.name fact).

 This blurb from the [ LDAP Node Terminus documentation |https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/5.5/nodes_ldap.html#variables] says it all: {quote} OK: We’re very sorry about this, but documentation for how variables work with LDAP has been basically lost to time. The document we inherited from the wiki was very unclear about all this, and we can’t budget the time to set up a test environment and confirm it. We don’t even know if anyone is using this terminus anymore, to be honest.{quote} The docs practically beg users to switch to use hiera instead. We believe very few users are using this terminus, and we should deprecate it to avoid new users coming across it and feeling our pain.

 Relative paths in the bolt config file should resolve relative to the Boltdir. This is useful for example if you want to put a boltdir in your control repo to use the modules it in or add a boltdir to a module it self that references spec/fixtures/modules to make development easier. We will not add support for paths relative to pwd at this time. In the future that may be added with a sigil.

 The syntax of this function doesn't match the other more verblike core functions like run_task. We should add a deprecation warning to the current location and remove it before 1.0

 The apply syntax deprecates the puppetlabs-apply module bundled with bolt. We can remove that module with just a release note.

 Thomas Hallgren any ideas on what might be failing here? https://github.com/puppetlabs/bolt/pull/550 is adding an overridden Loaders implementation for Bolt that includes 'boltlib'. I'm trying to override pre_load on it (which currently does some preloading for Error). Doing the pre_load of Target succeeds, but doesn't fix the error.

 If I don't call get_targets first, the Target type doesn't seem to be loaded and calls to functions on that type fail. This can happen with a simple example like

 plan simple(TargetSpec $nodes) {

   $target = get_targets($nodes)[0]

   apply($target) {

 notice("Target 0: ${$target.name}")

 I suspect this is not windows-specific - I'm pretty sure that notice comes from the resource harness. This might involve some surgery there.

Jira (PUP-9043) file resource - mtime checksum does not seem to work

  Re: file resource - mtime checksum does not seem to work

 Josh Cooper - I think you hit it right on the head when you said this:

However, i've noticed that if the connection is disconnected during download, ruby will ignore the resulting EOFError, which will cause puppet to write out a partial file. See https://github.com/ruby/ruby/blob/v2_4_4/lib/net/http/response.rb#L293 and https://github.com/ruby/ruby/blob/v2_4_4/lib/net/protocol.rb#L129.
And since puppet completes the file download, it will rename the temporary truncated file over the real file, and will not update the file again (until the mtime changes on the server).
 We dug into this a bit further yesterday.  That is exactly what has happened on our side, it appears.  The Puppet run was done during the transfer of that file to artifactory.  It is transferred around 6am every day, then this specific group runs puppet around 8-9am.  However, on this day, the file wasnt transferred to Artifactory until around 8am.  At 1.4GB it took a couple seconds, and it appears only part of the file was downloaded during this teams Puppet runs.   Then, as you alluded to, Puppet will never update the file again, because the mtime locally is greater than or equal to the remote file.  Since the mtime is actually greater, but the file was incomplete, it would never be resolved again; except through manual intervention.   Thus, between no md5 availability for artifactory, or mtime not being rechecked, the file will always be bad.   Just curious, is there a reason that the greater than **portion of mtime checking exists?  I understand there would be a slight time difference for transfer, but it would seem that if its an extended period of time, say beyond an hour or so difference, that the file has likely been changed (or in our case is incorrect all together) and thus puppet would then view the file as not being the same?

 Maggie Dreyer I'm talking about current Puppet on 2018.1, and this relates directly leaf checking, the ORG i was onsite with are using shortlived CRLS (sub 30days) so they have a real issue were they exposing themselves losing entries from the CRL when they need to replace the ca_crl. I think the piece they have missed in process is they can make the ca_crl a compound file of the existing and new file if i'm understanding correctly not just reoplace the files like for like.
