Title: Message Title Thomas Honey commented on PUP-9437 Re: Make it easier to set Puppets current locale Josh Cooper the beaker-i18n_helper library was used by the modules team to install language packs on a target OS, it only worked on debian and ubuntu. https://github.com/puppetlabs/beaker-i18n_helper/blob/master/lib/beaker/i18n_helper.rb#L48-L52 It also changed the locale on the target Os https://github.com/puppetlabs/beaker-i18n_helper/blob/master/lib/beaker/i18n_helper.rb#L70-L73 It was very limited in its capabilities. Jira (PUP-9324) Puppet agent run output to differentiate between corrective and intentional change
Title: Message Title Thomas Honey commented on PUP-9324 Re: Puppet agent run output to differentiate between corrective and intentional change From a testing perspective there are generally 2 kinds of tests run. Puppet apply, check for where there errors. status IE puppet returns a non zero status code if there was an error. Run puppet apply with detailed exit codes. puppet returns a non zero status code if there was a change made. There may be some tests that check for specific changes, eg expect(apply_manifest(pp, expect_failures: true).first['result']['stderr']).to match(%r{change from '?directory'? to '?file'? failed}) I think that the enhanced functionality is worth the change. I think that it will affect testing in modules! but it should be a small number of tests affected. We could grep through supported modules to find the size of this change. Jira (PUP-7314) Implied module namespace for PCore objects
Title: Message Title Thomas Honey commented on PUP-7314 Re: Implied module namespace for PCore objects I think that we are seeing an edge case of the problem. The paths are long because on the number of nested structures, this is how the vendors have chosen to model the problem. It is acceptable that the import path is long. in my opinion, we only reflect the underlying yang model. This is not documented @ https://docs.puppet.com/puppet/latest/reference/function.html When running puppetlabs-stdlib dig with puppet 4, it uses puppets dig function not stdlib. This is causing weird behaviour, also breaking the acceptance tests for the module. To replicate: checkout the puppetlabs stdlib module. export PUPPET_GEM_VERSION="= 4.5.0" bundle install --path .bundle/gems/
