Jira (PUP-2337) Directory environments can be massively slower than dynamic enviroments
Title: Message Title Joshua Cooper commented on an issue Re: Directory environments can be massively slower than dynamic enviroments Henrik Lindberg now that 3.6.x is out, can we close this as a duplicate of a known issue? Add Comment Puppet / PUP-2337 Directory environments can be massively slower than dynamic enviroments Per [this thread|https://groups.google.com/d/topic/puppet-users/wzy8NPWauu4/discussion] on puppet-users, multiple people are reporting massive slowdowns and increased CPU consumption when directory environments are turned on. One of the users included before-and-after profiling information, which I've attached to the ticket. Jira (PUP-2337) Directory environments can be massively slower than dynamic enviroments
Title: Message Title Henrik Lindberg commented on an issue Re: Directory environments can be massively slower than dynamic enviroments In PUP-1699 we have added caching, and also fixed a bug that would cause excessive environment creation if the configured environment was directory based (it would also be less than optimal for legacy environments). In the benchmark used to test this the slowdown was > 20x. That slowdown is related to the number of resources in total in the catalog. We have currently asked those that have the ability to run from source, to take the PR in PUP-1699 for a spin and see if that works for them. Those that have difficulty running from source will need to wait for the 3.6 RC as the fix in PUP-1699 does not work as a patch on 3.5.
