Realizing this is about release notes, I agree we do not want to publish release notes for a release going out to the door now. One of the next major focusses for the orchestration team is building out our own documentation, example content, and guides in prep for FOSS tooling. I'll include release notes for this endpoint as part of our work there. I was tasked with coming up with a plan for FOSS docs for the app management language features, and was told that this the current story is "You're on your own for the time being, and this endpoint is the interface if you want to build something that uses it." If the endpoint is private, what I was told is incorrect, and the actual story is "Don't use it at all" rather than "You're on your own." So what's the scoop? (Ryan Coleman?) That said, YES, private APIs DO need docs, even if just for internal use. When we're building Couch, it's going to be a lot easier to make sure our bases are covered if we can easily look back and tell how Ankeny expected this endpoint to work. I've done a lot of really annoying detective work over the years that could have been completely prevented by some really basic record-keeping. If we plan to change the endpoint, just saying so in the docs is going to serve us better than not writing anything down at all. If your team wants to keep it somewhere other than the Puppet repo, we can probably work something out, but the answer to "where's the API" needs to be something better than "in a months-old jira ticket." We know that for Burnside we will revamp the response format for this endpoint, and do not want to be constrained by backwards compatibility. With that, do we still need documentation for it ?
