In Puppet 6, rich-data is on by default and this should no longer be an issue. Closing this - please reopen if this does not work on Puppet 6.

Enabling rich_data (and restarting the puppetserver service) on the master and the agent:

[root@pe-201723-master ~]# cat /etc/puppetlabs/puppet/puppet.conf

[main]

rich data must be enabled on both master and agent for that experimental feature to work - then there is PUP-7855 which indicates it may not work with the --rich_data flag either.

Re: Handle Default type in Puppet Serialization

This warning is to be expected unless `rich_data` is enabled. JSON is not capable of passing a `default` value without data loss.
The warning stems from the fact that we use the symbol `:default` internally to represent the `default` value. That warning could be improved of course, but the problem (default being converted to a string) will still remain.
