Title: Message Title Lizzi Lindboe created an issue Puppet / PUP-8618 Puppet install docs don't say how to configure agent Issue Type: Task Assignee: Unassigned Created: 2018/03/30 10:48 AM Priority: Normal Reporter: Lizzi Lindboe In the docs for installing the Puppet agent on Linux (https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/5.3/install_linux.html), step #4 says you can optionally set your server setting but doesn't tell you where the file lives to do that, instead just links to a reference of available other options to set. I personally know that it goes in a file called puppet.conf, and so googling for that can get you this page, with this section on location: https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/5.3/config_file_main.html#location which tells you to consult another page for where the directory is. I'd suggest consolidating this information on the "Installing Puppet agent" page since it's operating system specific: say to add it to the file `/etc/puppetlabs/puppet/puppet.conf`, which should allow people to keep going without consulting other sources. This doesn't seem to apply to Windows since it uses a GUI installer but does seem to apply to the macOS instructions under "Configure critical agent settings." Additionally, we could add a quick tip to the Config files location section that running `puppet config print confdir` should tell you what your confdir is set to on that node. Add Comment
