[Puppet Users] Announce Strings 0.4.0 Released
We’re excited to announce the latest release of the puppet strings documentation tool! Puppet strings 0.4.0 is a backwards compatible minor release. It includes bug fixes as well as a new feature that produces a JSON representation of a module. It’s also the first version of puppet strings to be release as a ruby gem, and the last version that will be released as a puppet module. After some discussion, it seemed clear that a ruby gem is a preferable distribution method, so going forward, all new releases will only be distributed via the gem. Shout out to language team intern Ian Kronquist for the awesome new JSON feature, and community member David Danzilio for doing the work to make the gem release possible. * The CHANGELOG can be found here: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-strings/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md * The module can be found on the Forge here: https://forge.puppetlabs.com/puppetlabs/strings * The ruby gem can be found here: https://rubygems.org/gems/puppet-strings * Installation and usage instructions can be found here: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-strings/blob/master/README.md To track issues related to this release or file new issues, check out the PDOC JIRA project: * JIRA Project: https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PDOC * Fixes for 0.4.0: https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/issues/?filter=18810 -- Hailee Kenney hai...@puppetlabs.com Software Developer, Puppet Labs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. [Puppet Users] Fwd: Announce: Puppet Strings 0.1.1 Released
We’re happy to announce the latest release of the strings module. Strings 0.1.1 is a backward-compatible bugfix release. It mainly includes changes to documentation, but fixes one pretty major bug those of you using the future parser would have encountered (PDOC-14). *The module can be found on the Forge here: https://forge.puppetlabs.com/puppetlabs/strings *Installation and usage instructions can be found here: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-strings/blob/master/README.md To track issues related to this release or file new issues, head over to the PDOC JIRA Project: * JIRA Project: https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PDOC * 0.1.1 Tickets: https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PDOC/fixforversion/12010 In addition to asking people to try out the latest release, we’d also like to solicit some feedback from those of you who have been experimenting with the strings module. We’re now at a place where we need to decide where to take the module next, but before we decide that we’d like to hear what the community thinks. The first big question we want to ask is if YARD is the right approach. There was some discussion on the original thread about using Rocco or Docco instead. How do you feel about the format YARD outputs the documentation in? Is it what you’re looking for? Or would something more like Docco be preferable? Beyond that, where would you like to see us take strings next? Obviously there are a lot of things not covered by the module as is, such as types and providers, settings, etc. What’s the most important thing to cover next? Answers to those questions and any other feedback would be awesome. On Tue, Oct 7, 2014 at 7:06 PM, Daniele Sluijters daniele.sluijt...@gmail.com wrote: First, congratulations this is awesome and will make a lot of people very happy! Thanks, that's great to hear! Second, typo in the README: puppet strings serever, that's one 'e' too many. Quite a few people noticed this typo, it's officially been fixed in the repository. That change just hasn't made it up to the Forge yet. Third, is there an example module annotated with yard-style documentation to give a people an idea of how to get this going? Some examples in the README would also work. That's a good point, we'll try to come up with some examples of recommended documentation style. Fourth, the Project URL on the Forge points to JIRA, I would expect that to point to Github and the Report Issues to point to JIRA (which is does). As above, a pull request was also opened for that issue and has been merged. :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Puppet Developers group. [Puppet Users] Re: How to override $::operatingsystem fact
Hi Julien, When writing custom facts, you can specify precedence by setting a weight for your fact resolution. By default, the weight of a fact resolution is the number of confines it has. Since your custom fact resolution has no confine statements, and the default operatingsystem resolutions have one, your custom fact will not take precedence. There is a good explanation for how to set the weight of your custom fact here: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/custom_facts.html If you're sure you'd always like your custom fact to take precedence, you can set the weight to something like 50 or 100. Hope this helps! Hailee -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Puppet Users group.
