Yes, because LVM volumes are RAW devices, and thus unable to store files.

[PVE-User] lvm storage

2014-08-06 Thread Luis G. Coralle
Hi there,

If I add a second physical disk "lvm2" to a PVE node, which is more
convenient:

1. Mount it from the web interface Datacenter-> Storage-> Add-> LVM.
2. Mount it with the mount command and then from the web interface to mount
that directory

What I noticed is that if I choose option 1 only "Raw disk image (raw)"
option appears as a disk format on creating a new "VM". Is that correct?

[PVE-User] Nat Networking Issue

2014-08-06 Thread Said İmamoğlu
Hi all,

I am trying to solve a nat networking problem. An already opened thread can
be found on serverfault
(http://serverfault.com/questions/618408/proxmox-nat-networking-issue) by
me.

What could be done wrongly ? What is my mistake ? Is it logical or syntax
fault?

Thanks,

Said

Ok, thanks. I was able to validate that indeed. (backup_cancel in the
monitor console stopped the backup. perfect!)

Is it normal to see a considerable impact on VM performance even
though ionice appears to be used?

No, your assumption is wrong. We use KVM based 'snapshot' feature (also called
live backup).

[PVE-User] backups of LVM disk images

2014-08-06 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Hi all,

We have our disk images stored inside an LVM volume group. Each KVM vm
has his own LVM volume, so it's not a file on the filesystem.

I am trying to configure backups of all our vm machines. When I launch
a backup, I am wondering how this is happening internally, and how I
can make sure that what is backed up is a valid backup? I was
expecting that since it is inside an LVM volume group it would create
an lvm snapshot of the lvm volume that is being backed up, and then
copy the snapshot, but I don't see any snapshots with lvdisplay while
the backup is running. I fear that this means that the backups will be
corrupted if anything changes on the VM while the backup is running.
Can anyone confirm that?

Of course I could work around this by implementing my own backup
script, but It would be nice if I could use the included functionality
in proxmox.

Thanks,

Frederic
