I'm sorry, I scanned the README file and it said it required
bonobo 0.15 or later.

If it really only requires gtk+, libart, gdk-pixbuf and gnome-print,
then
it should be pretty easy to make the gnome-print requirement optional.
I'll
try to talk to the right people about this.

I have nothing agains GNOME, and I make my program work nicely as a
gnome
program. But I want it to be easy to port it to more limited systems.

GtkHTML isn't designed to force everyone to use GNOME. If there is a
problem, it's purely technical, not political.

The bonobo component is completely optional. The configure script
doesn't build it if you don't have bonobo installed.

The actual gtkhtml widget does not require bonobo. There is a bonobo
component included in the tarball, but it is built on top of the actual
gtkhtml library.

Note that gtkhtml is still under heavy development (they have never
released anything as a stable release). If there is some problem with the
library, do what msw suggested and offer help or suggestions to the
gtkhtml authors.

Gnome is NICE, but sometimes you want to go with just gtk+.

It also requires bonobo, and then you have to throw in the rest of the
gnome stuff.

FORKED LIBRARIES ARE BAD. Don't promote the use of them. If you have
a problem with the GtkHTML requirement on gnome-print, send in a patch
-- DON'T FORK IT.

Jeez.

[pygtk] cschtml

2000-08-04 Thread Tom Cato Amundsen

Has anyone on this list considered making python bindings
for cschtml, http://www.cscmail.net/cschtml? It is the
(IMO wrongly named) GtkHTML widget ported to Gtk, without
depending on all the gnome libs.
