RE: [PyMOL] PyMOL tutorial (moved and slightly updated)

2004-08-30 Thread Warren DeLano
Why do you think pymol cannot be sold? The copyright license
does not seem to imply this[1], and such a restriction would
 render pymol not Open Source.

Warren, can you tell us what you think on this?

Michael Carly,

Yes, in my world, open-source means available to all people and for all
purposes, including for sale or resale.

I don't have a problem with people placing different terms on parallel or
related efforts, but if their code or materials are to be distributed with
PyMOL, then their redistribution terms must be compatible with PyMOL's
terms, with no exceptions. If not, then the author of the material must be
fully responsible for maintenance and distribution.

Cheers,
Warren

In any case, you ask a useful question: I too would like to know what
license, if any, is granted by the tutorial's authors. If released under an
appropriate license, it could be modified for Linux/Unix/MacOSX users, and
used in course material, distributed with PyMOL, etc.

Hello,

I haven't really thought about licenses for releasing the tutorial under,
I'm not familiar with the different types of licenses. I would like to see
the tutorial treated as the program - where you can't sell it or claim you
created it. It would be great if it could be modified for Linux/Unix/MacOSX
and used in course material, distributed etc. Of course, I want it to mesh
with whatever Warren has planned for PyMOL.

Any suggestions?

Carly

Michael, you left out an attribution, making it seem you were quoting me,
rather than me quoting Carly. I've restored the attribution above.

In any case, you ask a useful question: I too would like to know what

I've got it bookmarked. Thanks for the tutorial, and for posting the link.

[PyMOL] PyMOL tutorial (moved and slightly updated)

2004-08-03 Thread chuitema
Hello,

I have a small tutorial for getting started with PyMOL and I have no idea
if people actually use it...
Anyway, our server has changed and the webpage has been moved to:

http://www.microbiology.ubc.ca/eltis/pymol/

(finally no IP in the domain name!)

If you have mirrored this site previously please note that there have been
updates and I even corrected a few mistakes! It may be easier to just link
to this page instead or the mirror that is (probably?) coming on the
Sourceforge page. Any future updates (and it does get updated occasionally
as I find stuff) will only appear on this page or those pages that request
the updated version from me (so far only Victor).

I have been told the new location isn't going to be changed any time soon
and there are no annoying pop-ups at its current location.

TTYL,
Carly
