[Python] PyCon 2015 Call for Proposals is open!

2014-08-13 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hi Italian Python Users!

The PyCon organizers invite you to submit proposals for talks, tutorials, and
posters to be presented at PyCon 2015 - https://us.pycon.org/2015/. The
conference takes place April 8-16 in Montreal, Queubec, Canada and we'll be
accepting talk and tutorial proposals through September 15, with posters
accepted through November 1!

We want everyone to be a part of making PyCon what it is, which is why we
invite everyone to submit proposals, and we invite everyone to be a part of the
program committee. It's your PyCon, not mine. Whether you started with Python
yesterday or you've been writing it since the 90s, everyone has different
experiences, different knowledge, and a different story to tell. This is why we
aim to strike a balance between beginner, intermediate, and advanced talks. We
want the entire community to level up as a result of PyCon.

Over the years, we've put together proposal resources and advice to help answer
some common topics surrounding our CFP
(https://us.pycon.org/2015/speaking/proposal-resources/). We even put together
a sample proposal and reviewed it for you at
https://us.pycon.org/2015/speaking/proposal_advice/samples/SpacePug/. If you
have any questions or tips that may help others, please email them to
pycon...@python.org, or feel free to respond and I'll help you out.

The full details of our Call for Proposals are available at
https://us.pycon.org/2015/speaking/cfp/. Keep an eye on that page as well as
https://twitter.com/pycon and http://pycon.blogspot.com/ for details about
ticket sales, financial aid, and more PyCon news!

Thanks for your time!

[Python] PyCon 2014 - 400 tickets remain!

2014-02-03 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hi Italian Python Users!

PyCon 2014, taking place April 9-17 in Montreal, has just passed 1600 tickets
sold, and we're seeing sales ramp up very quickly. Late last week we were
announcing the 1500 mark, and with a cap of 2000 tickets, we expect these last
four hundred to move quickly. Head to https://us.pycon.org/2014/registration/
to buy yours today!

This year's talk schedule is available at
https://us.pycon.org/2014/schedule/talks/, along with a keynote series
including EFF co-founder John Perry Barlow; IPython creator, Fernando Perez;
PSF director, Jessica McKellar; PSF chairman, Van Lindberg; and Python's
creator, Guido van Rossum. The tutorial schedule is available at
https://us.pycon.org/2014/schedule/tutorials/, and spaces are limited! You'd be
hard pressed to find a better value than our tutorials.

We've long thought PyCon to be family friendly, and last year's Young Coder
tutorials were a hugely successful step towards showing it. The tutorials are
back again this year, with registration opening shortly for children 12 and
over: https://us.pycon.org/2014/events/letslearnpython/. For kids under 12,
we're pleased to be offering childcare! See
https://us.pycon.org/2014/childcare/ for details.

The 5K Charity Fun Run is on its third year, with proceeds benefiting the EFF.
It's a fun time and supports a good cause. For the 5K and many other events,
check out the Events section on https://us.pycon.org/2014/

If you require an invitation letter in order acquire a travel visa, please
email pycon-organiz...@python.org!

[Python] PyCon 2013 Schedule Announced!

2013-01-14 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hi Italian Python Users!

It's that time of year again: the PyCon schedule has been announced and the
rush to pick up tickets is on! https://us.pycon.org/2013/schedule/ was
completed last week, and we've seen a sharp increase in sales as we approach
1,500 registrations. This year we're limiting the attendance to 2,500 for our
second year in Santa Clara, CA. The conference runs from March 13-21.

The 2013 edition of PyCon is going to be the biggest and best yet. We've added
a sixth track of talks, giving you 114 presentations to view. Tutorials are
better than ever, with an even wider range of topics than before. They keynotes
are being given by an excellent group: Eben Upton, Jessica McKellar, Raymond
Hettinger, and Guido van Rossum.

Tickets are available now at https://us.pycon.org/2013/registration/. Student
rates were cut in half for 2013 to $125, and individual registrations are only
$350. Corporate tickets are currently $600. No matter what group you fall into,
the value PyCon provides is incredible.

We've got a ton of great events going on throughout the conference. There's a
workshop for kids 12 and under to learn Python -
https://us.pycon.org/2013/events/letslearnpython/. The successful PyData
conference is running during the sprints - http://sv2013.eventbrite.com/. The
Postgres community is running PyPgDay during the tutorials -
https://us.pycon.org/2013/events/pgday/.

We're once again doing the 5K run, and the open spaces and sprints will be a
blast as well. We also have a few tricks up our sleeve that we'll update you on
at http://pycon.blogspot.com/ and https://www.twitter.com/PyCon.

If your organization is interested in sponsoring PyCon, check out our
prospectus at https://us.pycon.org/2013/sponsors/prospectus/ and contact
conference chairman Jesse Noller at jnol...@python.org with any questions.

Thanks for your time, and we hope to see you at PyCon 2013!

[Python] PyCon 2013 Ticket Sales Have Begun!

2012-09-20 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hi Italian Python Users!

The PyCon organizers are happy to announce that ticket sales for the March 2013
conference have opened at https://us.pycon.org/2013/registration/ ! Early bird
rates are available for the first 1000 purchases, which is a departure from
previous time-based systems. With PyCon 2012 having been a quick sell out,
we're expecting this one to be the same. Keep in mind that attendance is
strictly limited to 2500.

PyCon 2013 is going back to Santa Clara, CA before heading up north for two
years in Montreal, Quebec for 2014-15. The event starts with two days of
tutorials on March 13, followed by three days of talks starting March 15, and
ends with four days of sprints starting March 18.

Individual and corporate ticket prices remain the same as they have been for
the last few years, with early bird rates of $300 and $450 respectively. The
regular rates of $350 and $600 for individual and corporate are still an
incredible deal.

For 2013 we've reduced the cost to students by 50%, bringing the early bird
rate to $100 with a regular rate of $125. Providing a more affordable
conference experience for students is a priority for the organizers and the
Python Software Foundation, and we're hoping the decrease helps bring more of
them out.

We've also increased our financial aid program, and hope to assist more
attendees for PyCon 2013! You can apply for financial aid through the new
consolidated form at
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=trueformkey=dGt4Z0dsY052VERJem4xUUFVQW9uQVE6MQ

We're still accepting proposals for talks and tutorials, with a deadline of
September 28. Poster proposals are accepted through January 15, 2013. For more
information, see https://us.pycon.org/2013/speaking/cfp/

If your company is interested in sponsorship, we need you. Sponsors are what
make PyCon a possibility, and sponsorship offers some great values to the
generous organizations who support the conference. Check out
https://us.pycon.org/2013/sponsors/whysponsor/ to find out what you get out of
sponsorship, with a prospectus at
https://us.pycon.org/2013/sponsors/prospectus/. Contact Jesse Noller at
jnol...@python.org with any sponsorship inquiries.

[Python] PyCon 2013 is under way! Now accepting proposals

2012-08-01 Per discussione Brian Curtin
It was only a few months ago when we wrapped up the hugely successful
PyCon 2012, and we started working on the 2013 conference right away.
PyCon 2013 will again be in Santa Clara, California, with tutorials
kicking off March 13, the conference March 15, and sprints beginning
March 18. Along with our site release at https://us.pycon.org/2013/,
we opened our Call for Proposals a month earlier than last year at
https://us.pycon.org/2013/speaking/cfp/.

We're looking to you, the community, to help us make PyCon 2013 even
better. We're accepting proposals through September 28, hoping to
break last year's record of 519 talk, tutorial, and poster proposals.
We're looking for all types of presentations from all types of people.
If you've got a topic to share, we hope you'll submit a proposal.
Create an account at https://us.pycon.org/2013/account/signup/, and
fill in your speaker profile and submit away!

With another record submission period expected, we're also rounding up
volunteers for our Program Committee, the team tasked with evaluating
the proposals and coming up with the conference schedule. If you're
interested in volunteering, join the PyCon Program Committee mailing
list and introduce yourself at
http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/pycon-pc.

Without sponsors, PyCon wouldn't be possible. They're what keep the
conference prices low and values high, and we share the same deal with
our sponsorship packages. Especially after you factor in the price of
tickets that all packages include, we think our sponsorship packages
are second to none. We even have a 50% discount for small businesses!
Check out https://us.pycon.org/2013/sponsors/whysponsor/ for more
info.

We've also made changes in how we're doing ticketing, specifically for
early bird rates. We even cut our student ticket prices in half,
starting at $100! We'll announce more details as we get closer, but
know that ticket sales will be opening up in the fall. Be sure to plan
accordingly because we anticipate another quick sell out!

Be sure to follow us at http://pycon.blogspot.com/ and
https://twitter.com/pycon!

2011-08-15 Per discussione Brian Curtin
With PyCon 2012 efforts off to a great start, we’re looking for you,
the people of the Python community, to show us what you’ve got. Our
call for proposals (http://us.pycon.org/2012/cfp/) just went out and
we want to include you in our 2012 conference schedule, taking place

[Python] Python User Group International Survey

2011-06-28 Per discussione Brian Curtin
The PSF is happy to launch today an international survey of Python user
group organizers to help it better serve the large and ever-expanding
international Python user community.

The survey contains questions on user group organization, events,
demographics, and growth. There are some questions with numerical
answers, and while your best guess is fine, you may find it helpful to
gather some statistics on your user group membership before starting
the survey (example statistics include the number of active members
and the size and topics for recent user group events).

We expect this survey to take around 30 minutes to complete. We
appreciate your time and honesty in answering these questions.

The PSF blog post announcing the survey:
http://pyfound.blogspot.com/2011/06/tell-us-about-your-user-group.html

The survey was written by Jessica McKellar (http://jesstess.com),
organizer for the Boston Python Meetup
(http://meetup.bostonpython.com), and Jesse Noller
(http://jessenoller.com/), PSF board member and PyCon chair with input
and feedback from survey specialists and others.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BWLG8SZ

The survey was pretested with a handful of user group organizers, and
their answers were phenomenal. Organizers have tons to say about these
topics, and we hope to get a lot of great, actionable data for
strengthening the relationship between the PSF and Python user groups
out of this effort.

Outreach, education, diversity and community building are critical for
Python as a community, and the Foundation - this data should greatly
assist in our targeting our resources and furthering the mission of
the Foundation in all ways.

Thank you

[Python] PyCon 2011 news - going strong, sign up today!

2011-02-09 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hello group!

PyCon 2011 looks like it may very well break every single record in the past
-
making it one of the biggest and best PyCons of all time. We've gone all out
this year - including Extreme Talks, a Startup Row, amazing talks,
tutorials,
Poster sessions.

Extreme talks:
http://us.pycon.org/2011/speaker/extreme/
Startup Row:
http://us.pycon.org/2011/blog/2011/01/19/announcing-startup-row-pycon-2011/

Also just announced - Startup Stories:
http://us.pycon.org/2011/blog/2011/02/07/pycon-2011-announcing-startup-stories/

If you haven't bought your PyCon tickets, it's time to do so. This year
we're
limited to 1500 attendees, and with a faster than average sales rate
compared
to previous years, you may not have the luxury of leaving registration until
just before the conference -- places may sell out in advance! Check out
http://us.pycon.org/2011/tickets/ for rates and details.

Not sold on the conference? Not sure what it's all about? We are confident
this
year's conference will surpass anything that has gone before, and we think
there's something for everyone.

Looking for education? This year's tutorial selection features a range of
topics and an all-star cast of presenters. From the cloud to the GUI, from
beginner to advanced, we have it. Check out courses taught by book authors
Wesley Chun and David Beazley, web framework master Jacob Kaplan-Moss, core
developer and guru Raymond Hettinger, hacker extraordinaire Zed Shaw and
many
more: http://us.pycon.org/2011/schedule/tutorials/ -- and at flat fees that
wouldn't buy you an hour of training by less-qualified instructors
elsewhere!

The conference talks are some of the best we've seen in years, coming from a
record number of submissions. We've got talks on using Python for airplane
tuning and massive telescopes. All of the major web frameworks will be
discussed. Numerous databases are covered. PyPy, IronPython and Jython are
in.
We'll be talking about IDEs, testing, security, scalability, and
documentation.
Have a look: http://us.pycon.org/2011/schedule/lists/talks/

We've also got an amazing array of poster presentations - everything from
Arduino hacking, Geospatial Python, Open Government and Microsoft Kinect
hacking. Check out: http://us.pycon.org/2011/schedule/lists/posters/

Meanwhile we've got the awesome sprints (http://us.pycon.org/2011/sprints/
),
and open spaces (http://us.pycon.org/2011/openspaces/) everyone knows and
loves.

This is shaping up to be the best PyCon yet, and we think it's a great
value,
both cost-wise, and community-wise. We can guarantee that you'll come away
with
a head full of knowledge and amazing new friends and contacts.

Get your tickets before they are gone: http://us.pycon.org/2011/tickets/

If you have any questions, comments or concerns - feel free to email Van

[Python] PSF Sprints - Call For Applications

2011-01-27 Per discussione Brian Curtin
Hello Italian Python Users!

On behalf of the Python Software Foundation’s sponsored sprint group, I
wanted to drop your group a quick note introducing us. If you’re already
familiar with our sponsored sprints, you’ll be happy to know we made a few
changes to help both sprint groups and Python even more.

The PSF recently set aside funding to be distributed to groups who spend
time contributing to the Python ecosystem, often in the form of development
sprints. Our goal is to help you help Python, so whether it’s buying meals
or renting meeting space for your all-day hackathon, we have a budget set
aside to reimburse your expenses up to $300 USD (up from $250).
If your goal is to make the Python world a better place, and you work on the
problems facing Python today, we want to help you. We’re looking for groups
of hackers that spend their time fixing and expanding the wide variety of
Python interpreters, libraries, tools, and anything else affecting the
community. We’re also looking for groups who want to help and get started but
don’t have the resources to get together. Whether your group is separated by
a train ride or lacking a shared space, we want to help you. On-boarding new
contributors to open source Python projects is an especially important area
that we’d like to work with. This means if you have a Python project and you
want to sprint -- we want to help you. Some sprints we’ve sponsored include
the porting of Genshi to Python 3, improvements to packaging
(Distribute/distutils), and most recently, the PyPy winter sprint in
Switzerland.

If your group is interested in hosting a sprint, check out the full details
of our call for applications at http://www.pythonsprints.com/cfa/ and
contact us at spri...@python.org.

Thanks for your time, and happy sprinting!
