I get the same error messages for Python 2.4.4, Python 2.4.5, and Python 2.5. The software package I'm trying to build from source requests that I install Python 2.4.4, so I'm interesting in solutions for that particular distribution. I think the actual problem is that the linking doesn't find the XftGlyphExtends. I can only guess, but it might be related to 64-bit-problems.
