[Python-modules-team] rgain REMOVED from testing

  Previous version: 1.3.4-4

The script that generates this mail tries to extract removal
reasons from comments in the britney hint files. Those comments
were not originally meant to be machine readable, so if the
reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is
probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the
actual hints file before you complain about meaningless removals.

Python2 becomes end-of-live upstream, and Debian aims to remove
Python2 from the distribution, as discussed in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2019/07/msg00080.html

Your package either build-depends, depends on Python2, or uses Python2
in the autopkg tests. Please stop using Python2, and fix this issue
by one of the following actions.

- Convert your Package to Python3. This is the preferred option. In
case you are providing a Python module foo, please consider dropping
the python-foo package, and only build a python3-foo package. Please
don't drop Python2 modules, which still have reverse dependencies,
  just document them.

  This is the preferred option.

- If the package is dead upstream, cannot be converted or maintained
in Debian, it should be removed from the distribution. If the
package still has reverse dependencies, raise the severity to
"serious" and document the reverse dependencies with the BTS affects
command. If the package has no reverse dependencies, confirm that
the package can be removed, reassign this issue to ftp.debian.org,
make sure that the bug priority is set to normal and retitle the
issue to "RM: PKG -- removal triggered by the Python2 removal".

- If the package has still many users (popcon >= 300), or is needed to
build another package which cannot be removed, document that by
adding the "py2keep" user tag (not replacing the py2remove tag),
using the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org user. Also any
dependencies on an unversioned python package (python, python-dev)
must not be used, same with the python shebang. These have to be
replaced by python2/python2.7 dependencies and shebang.

This is the least preferred option.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:pygtkspellcheck

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

Package: python-gtkspellcheck
Version: 4.0.5-1

I've been trying to configure in Virtaal tool the spellcheck in Galician
for Debian 9 and Ubuntu 18.4 but it's not working. After comparing package
lists, build rules and upstream's source code with Arch Linux - where it's
correctly working - we believe this is due to a missing parameter
GTKSPELL=true in the ./setup.py file, which is inhibiting the module to be
invoked and, hence, compiled.

pygtk is unmaintained upstream. It has not had a release since GNOME 3
was released in 2011.

The way forward is to port your app to use GObject Introspection
bindings (and gtk3).

For more information on GObject Introspection see [1] and [2].

Please try to do this before the Buster release as we're going to
try to remove pygtk this cycle.

If you have any question don't hesitate to ask.

gourmet is not in Testing. It was my understanding that it's
acceptable to drop packages if nothing in Testing depends on it.

gourmet won't be getting back in Testing easily since it uses pygtk
which will be removed from Testing fairly soon.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:python-botocore

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:pyjwt

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

Package: python-github
Version: 1.40-1
Severity: normal

That patch disables installation of github.tests submodule.

Having .tests submodules installed is a convention followed by the majority of
python-* packages since that allows to quickly test the functionality of the
module as installed on the system.

In my case I am also considering using github.tests.Framework to establish
testing of our code (in datalad) which uses github package for interaction with
github. And I wouldn't be able to do so if this package doesn't even provide
github.tests .

Thank you in advance

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:python-smmap

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

[Python-modules-team] Bug#943582: python-twisted: twist/twistd fails, missing dependency on PyHamcrest

2019-10-26 Thread Brian Warner
Package: python-twisted
Version: 18.9.0-4
Severity: important

Howdy.. I recently updated 'python-twisted', and at the next reboot,
some servers using 'twistd' failed to start. I reproduced the problem
with a simple invocation of the /usr/bin/twist command:

$ twist

pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: The 'PyHamcrest>=1.9.0' distribution
was not found and is required by Twisted

I know the PyHamcrest dependency was adjusted in the recent release,
perhaps something got broken as a side-effect? A different sid box
with python-twisted-18.9.0-3 (and also no python-hamcrest) still works.

thanks,
 -Brian

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:python-gitdb

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:httmock

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

My bad, this is now re-uploaded a correct package now.

I had to re-introduce it because python-mock needs it, and python-mock
has *A LOT* of reverse dependencies that we need to fix first.

Cheers,

therefore didn't migrate to testing. I'm re-uploading to fix that.

[Python-modules-team] Bug#943548: python-setoptconf: autopkgtest regression: No module named 'StringIO'

2019-10-26 Thread Paul Gevers
Source: python-setoptconf
Version: 0.2.0-4
X-Debbugs-CC: debian...@lists.debian.org
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: regression

Dear maintainers,

With a recent upload of python-setoptconf the autopkgtest of
python-setoptconf fails in testing when that autopkgtest is run with the
binary packages of python-setoptconf from unstable. It passes when run
with only packages from testing. In tabular form:
   passfail
python-setoptconf from testing0.2.0-4
all others from testingfrom testing

I copied some of the output at the bottom of this report.

Currently this regression is blocking the migration to testing [1]. Can
you please investigate the situation and fix it? If needed, please
change the bug's severity.

More information about this bug and the reason for filing it can be found on
https://wiki.debian.org/ContinuousIntegration/RegressionEmailInformation

As far as I can tell, the ldaptor build-dependency is also because
it needs the dia executable - not the python bindings.
I'm thus removing the second blocker bug as well. This means I see no
reason to avoid going ahead with the upload right away.

Will ofcourse drop all Breaks because of previous findings before
uploading.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:python-adns

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal, or ask for help on IRC
#debian-python, or the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list.

[Python-modules-team] Bug#943496: Removed package(s) from unstable

2019-10-26 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

python-adns |1.2.1-5 | source
python-adns | 1.2.1-5+b3 | amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel,
ppc64el, s390x

--- Reason ---
RoM; ancient; dead upstream; no Python 3 support and no reverse deps
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 943...@bugs.debian.org.

Hi...

Whether one ommits --jobs (which should it cause to use the number of cores
according to the docs) or sets it to >1
it doesn't seem to concurrently use more than one CPU.

Cheers,

Package: python-rgain

About a year ago, I was looking for a program that would calculate ReplayGain
for files in various formats. I haven't found any, so I wrote my own. Recently,
I came across this package and found out that it contains a script that does
exactly what I wanted.

It would be nice if this package was easier to find when searching for such a
command. My suggestion is to create a virtual package named "replaygain"
pointing to this one, and change the package description of python-rgain like
so:
-This package provides a Python package to calculate the Replay Gain values of
audio files and normalize the volume of those files according to the values.
Two basic scripts exploiting these capabilities are shipped as well.

and writes it to file tags,
+ - collectiongain: calculates the Replay Gain of a music collection, with
caching.

Hey.

It seems that e.g. collectiongain fails when no ID3 tags are present.

E.g. when encoding files like:
$ lame -q 0 -v -V 4 --noreplaygain --id3v2-utf16 --add-id3v2 --id3v1-only
running
$ collectiongain dir/
would give:
Collecting files ...
  [1] 6.wav.mp3 |
  [2] 2.wav.mp3 |
  [3] 4.wav.mp3 |
  [4] 3.wav.mp3 |
  [5] 1.wav.mp3 |
  [6] 5.wav.mp3 |
Dispatching jobs ...
Now waiting for results ...
Unfortunately, there were some errors:

All finished.

However, when I add e.g. --tc ''
$ lame -q 0 -v -V 4 --noreplaygain --id3v2-utf16 --add-id3v2 --id3v1-only --tc
''
it works.

I'd guess that lame adds an id3v2 even without "--tc ''",... but even if not,
python-rgain should probably add a proper ID3 area itself, or at least
not give a stack trace =)

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi.

collectiongain seems to clutter up ~/.cache with temp files:
collectiongain-cache.a93ca9bffa744d36fd46f86b2f8ac14a
collectiongain-cache.a445566b3975f8f60081c410a6069147

collectiongain-cache.c198cd73189da8e03003ba5c4d378862

AFAIU ~/.cache is not really intended for such kind of
temp files which are likely never to be used again.

And even if these would be reused, they should perhaps
go into some subdir :-)

Thanks,
Chris.
