[Python-modules-team] Bug#971564: python-pygit2: libgit2 1.0 transition

2020-12-01 Thread Ondrej Novy
Hi,

if you want to proceed with the transition, maybe it's a good idea to
upload libgit2 to unstable first :)

python-pygit2 is ready for transition since 12 Jun 2020 (in experimental).

I guess I can say something about pytest because I'm maintainer of pytest,
right? :)

I'm perfectly fine with removing pypy-pytest binary package and all other
dependencies in chain. It's painfull to maintain it.

upstream drop of Python 2 support doesn't mean you need to drop it too. For
example I'm keeping pytest at lower version for same reason. Please respect
Python 2 removal and release team rules and don't remove Python 2 support
untill all reverse(-build) depends (+autopkgtests) are fixed. Removing of
python-keyring is blocked by 4 bugs, But recursively it's dozens, for
example python-mock is affected. Removing this means marking dozens off
Debian packages as AUTORM. Please be careful.

If you really need to upgrade python-keyring to newer version, you could
split it into two source packages. But do it only if it's really needed.

Thanks for understanding.

my plan is:

   - upgrade to >= 4.x just after Buster release

Because we are going to drop Python after Buster release, I think it's
perfectly fine that Astropy (Py2 version) will not support Pytest 4.x.

2018-11-23 Thread Ondrej Novy
Hi Ole,

this looks like bug in astropy and other packages. They are just not
compatible with newer pytest.

For example astropy upstream uses pytest 3.9 and/or 3.10 for testing code,
see
https://github.com/astropy/astropy/commit/3e34e7c450ebd982978423d8774ef6953832f610

I tried to build simple package python-m3u8, which uses pytest for py2 and
py3 and it build+test fine with newer pytest.

Thanks.

enum34 is backport of enum from Python 3.4. It doesn't make sense to
package it for Python 3, because we have >= Python 3.4 in unstable.

Correct solution:
https://sources.debian.org/src/python-eventlet/0.20.0-5/debian/patches/0011-Avoid-dependency-on-enum-compat.patch/

"enum34;python_version<"3.4""

after you push changes to salsa repo, you need sponsor for upload. Best way
to find sponsor for DPMT packages is to join IRC #debian-python and ask for
sponsoring there. Typically it's not needed to push it to debian-mentors,
because sponsor will pull package from our git.
