[Python-modules-team] Bug#831271: src:python-pip: hardcoded list of packages in "Built-Using"

2016-07-14 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Source: python-pip
Version: 8.1.2-2
Severity: important

python-pip hardcodes the list of Built-Using packages for python-pip-
whl in debian/control. Please generate the list automatically at build
time using the package versions actually used.

In particular this breaks building[1] the package automatically in
other environments, such as derivate distributions that like Debian
enfore the full source is present, including source packages referred
to via Built-Using.

[Python-modules-team] Comments regarding dulwich_0.10.1+git20150425-1_amd64.changes

2015-05-06 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

I'm going to accept the package, but the description for
python3-dulwich-dbg seems to be misleading:

python3-dulwich-dbg provides detached debug symbols in
/usr/lib/debug/.build-id/*, but the description states "This package
contains the extensions built for the Python 3 debug interpreter". The
short description also doesn't seem to fit.

The patch below makes a few more files appear in python3-numpy:

+---
| Files in second .deb but not in first

| -rw-r--r-- root/root
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/core/_dotblas.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/core/umath.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so
| -rw-r--r-- root/root
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/core/umath_tests.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so
| -rw-r--r-- root/root
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/fft/fftpack_lite.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so
| -rw-r--r-- root/root
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/lib/_compiled_base.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so

| -rw-r--r-- root/root
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/random/mtrand.cpython-33m-x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu.so
+---

However the tests still fail:

+---
| Traceback (most recent call last):

| [...]
| FAILED (KNOWNFAIL=6, SKIP=5, errors=1)
+---

These failures are also not caught by d/rules:

-set -e; for v in $(PY3VERS) ; do \

and the leading "-" tells make to ignore errors[1]. But just removing
them is not enough; I guess the tests still return 0 on failure.

  [1] <http://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Errors.html#Errors>

Also the package fails to build twice in a row which is a bit
annoying. dpkg complains about

  doc/source/fontList.cache
  doc/source/reference/generated/*

These files should probably be removed by the clean target.

As this came up on #-mentors just now:

I suspect the problem is the following line in d/rules:

rm debian/python3-numpy/usr/lib/python3*/*-packages/*/*/*.cpython-*d*.so

This probably should match *.cpython-3?d*, but also matches
*.cpython-33m-* on kfreebsd as the operating system name is included
later (which includes a "d" in the case of kfreebsd).

That's a bug in the packages.

It looks like pysendfile is a rewrite of py-sendfile which was first
packages as pysendfile (which started to replace and conflict with
python-sendfile which already looks wrong[1]) and later took the binary
packages over. It nowhere says if this is intentional and py-sendfile
should be removed or if somebody messed up.

[1] see Policy 10.1 unless they implement the same interface.
