there were old binaries left out.
It is working fine now.

why is kvm not able to use 64 bit capability in a host which is a 64 bit

[Qemu-devel] [Bug 621950] Re: qemu not able to run 64 bit OS when -enable-kvm is used with a 64 bit processor

2010-08-23 Thread bhasker
I tried this

kernel
uname: 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sat Jul 24 01:47:24 UTC 2010 x86_64

with version 0.12.5

when tried to use -enable-kvm the system starts out in the 32 bit mode rather
than 64 bit.

  kvm version:

--

filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/arch/x86/kvm/kvm-intel.ko

license:GPL

author: Qumranet

kvm

vermagic: 2.6.32-5-amd64 SMP mod_unload modversions

parm: bypass_guest_pf:bool

parm: vpid:bool

parm: flexpriority:bool

parm: ept:bool

parm: unrestricted_guest:bool

parm: emulate_invalid_guest_state:bool

this problem is still present.

Even if I use qemu-system-x86_64 I am able to run the 64 bit OS only if
-enable-kvm is avoided but
the system is very slow.

You're host kernel is 64-bit? Please show the full command line you use
to launch qemu.

Because you're using a 32-bit OS in the host.
