Is anyone willing to pool a bit more money in to go with Simon's effort.
 The more money the better chance of getting some good logos.

That sounds like a bug to me. However, trying with master branch I get
the correct behavior - after adding a layer the project gets dirty as
expected.

If you install QGIS 1.7 from the installer on that machine, would it
crash too? If not then you have probably done something wrong when
compiling or preparing the installer.

Btw. what leads you to compile QGIS on windows yourself instead of
using standalone installer or osgeo4w packages?

I would assume the Q and the arrow represents a compass. The Q is the
compass rose and the arrow is the needle.

Personally, I don't think that the current logo/icon is that bad, but I
am open to other proposals. I also don't think that the current logo is
too complex. Look at Apples logo (i.e. of Safari) - this is pretty
complex logo as well (I would say it is more complex than the QGIS logo)
and people seem to like it.

I also think that there could be different versions (e.g. with or
without shadow or even with a different color). One could distinquish
certain sub-projects (such as QGIS Server, QGIS Android, QGIS webclient)
with a slightly modified QGIS logo.

Don't know if it is 'proper', but I can write a vector layer with the
method writeAsVectorFormat from QgsVectorFileWriter, see

http://doc.qgis.org/head/classQgsVectorFileWriter.html#3a4405a59d8f8ac147878cae5bd9bade

To test:

on an active vector layer (selected in legend), do the following in the
qgis python console:

i = qgis.utils.iface
l = i.activeLayer()
qgis.core.QgsVectorFileWriter.writeAsVectorFormat(l,
'/tmp/myjson.json', 'utf-8', l.crs(), 'GeoJson')

and you should find your json in /tmp :-)

(for more possibilities (like only saving selected features etc) see docs.

[Qgis-developer] Python - saving a layer into a geojson layer

2011-09-01 Thread kimaidou
Hi list

I would like to know if there was a dedicated api method to create a new
vector layer (and save it into a file) by copying a map canvas layer (which
could be postgis, shapefile, etc.).
I have read here
http://www.qgis.org/pyqgis-cookbook/vector.html#writing-shapefiles
how to write a new shapefile. But then I would need to "manually" copy each
feature from the chosen layer to the new one.

I was thinking of a equivalent to the right-click "Save as" which brings an
ui to choose the targer layer format, srid, etc., but I am trying to do it
programatically.

Is there a proper way to do it ?

Thanks in advance
