Re: [QGIS-Developer] Download url's macOS QGIS missing version info

2021-06-20 Thread Peter Petrik
Hi,

the link on webpage is just symbolic link to last versions SUCCESSFULLY
compiled. There was a massive blocker with the switch to C++17 in the last
versions, which was resolved by reinstallation of whole server and updating
all the tools to compile the stuff. Therefore the packager was not working
for some period of time. Normally, the PR and LTR builds should be
available within 24 hours after tagging of the qgis/QGIS server. Sometime
I do not get notification that the builds are failing, so it is best to
send me a mail to notify me.

nightly:
https://qgis.org/downloads/macos/nightly
pr:
https://qgis.org/downloads/macos/pr
ltr:
https://qgis.org/downloads/macos/ltr

actual status could be also seen here:
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Mac-Packager

Kind regards,
Peter

Re: [QGIS-Developer] WSLg

2021-06-20 Thread Alister Hood
For anyone who is tempted to "look", be aware that although Microsoft
hasn't encouraged it, it has been possible for years to run X apps and even
audio apps (using pulseaudio) in WSL. This new "WSLg" might provide nice
out-of-the-box support, but it only works with WSL-2, which still has some
major downsides compared to WSL-1, so depending on what you want to do, you
might be better off with an old WSL-1 system.
1. WSL2 is touted as having better performance, but this relates to doing
things inside the Linux system. It is apparently much slower for accessing
files in the windows system, so that is officially discouraged
2. It grows to take up all your disk space:
https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/4699

Alister

[QGIS-Developer] Download url's macOS QGIS missing version info

2021-06-20 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde
Hi all,

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Website/issues/892
and
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Website/issues/894

people are asking about certain versions of the macOS installer. But as the
actual version is not readable in the url, we (as website issue peeps) cannot
check the actual version of the installer (without macOS machine).

So these are either people too eager to check a newer version after a release,
and packaging is just not finished, OR there is really an error.

I can onderstand the reason for not putting the version in the dmz name, but a
solution (for me to be able to check) is to package the dmz in a zip with a
version name in it (AND update the versions in th upload site then too, just
like we do for the Windows installers).

Is this an doable option? Or should I just close macOS related issues with a
"Please be patient while the macOS packagers are doing their work (and don't
forget to donate time or money)" ;-)

Hi Tim,

yes, I signed up myself successfully, and received a 'personal url' to the
course material.

Subject was: "Thank you for registering for ICS' Virtual QML Programming
Training" (in case people want to check their spam folders :-) )

Hi

I tried out of curiosity to sign up for it but it seems their form does not
work. Curious if others have feedback on the course.

Tim

Another option to consider is to build an NSIS installer for your plugin. I
used to do this in the past for InaSAFE (see
https://github.com/inasafe/inasafe/blob/develop/scripts/windows-install-builder.nsi)
though I haven't maintained it so I don't know how well the approach still
works - it would need some tweaking to figure out which profile to install
the plugin into. Theoretically you could make one installer per platform
with all the binary bits encapsulated and then prompt the user to grab the
appropriate installer for their OS.

Nice! And to balance out the universe, you can also run the windows build
under wine (
