Re: [QGIS-Developer] High load on plugins.qgis.org

Hi Tim,

Can you share more details about this? Do you have a HTTP referrer, IP
or user-agent or anything else in particular to blame?

Julien

Hi Tim,
recently Salvatore Fiandaca spotted a website at
http://qgis-hub.fast-page.org/ (only http) claiming to be a QGIS Hub
for collections of free to use QGIS style xml-files and layout qpt-files.
Is it managed by QGIS.org or somebody known? If not, may it have
something to do with the plugins server issues (someone scraping
styles/layouts/plugins)?

Regards.

Re: [QGIS-Developer] A load of updates in OSGeo4W

2024-04-18 Thread Julien Moura (Oslandia) via QGIS-Developer

Hello Jürgen,

Thanks for your job.

Does this mean that the version of Python and other dependencies will
change in the current LTR or not (installed via msi or osgeo4w)? To what
extent is this linked to https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/54491?
Also, how are these massive OSGeo4W updates discussed and decided? Is it
on the OSGeo discourse or on the mailing list or somewhere else? I would
like to be notified in advance to inform our end-users for incoming
changes. I've searched a bit but I did not found.

Julien

Re: [QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer - Report

2024-03-25 Thread Julien Moura (Oslandia) via QGIS-Developer

Hola Selma,

Lately, I hear a lot about Nix and its ecosystem. Good luck for your
transition and interested on your feedback on daily use of GIS tools and
softwares.

Regarding your (priceless) documentation work, will you still use
Windows as a a reference operating system? Since most of QGIS users are
stucked working on Microsoft's operating system, I think it's quite a
good thing when then found screenshots and menus looking like their
proper environment. And, to be honest it's a good thing to have an
advanced user like you testing against a lot of QGIS features on Windows ;).

Julien

Hello Régis,

Thank you for your response and interest in my transition from Windows
to NixOS. The change is indeed significant, but I didn't do it alone.
Tim helped me set up the system. The thing is, on my PC where I work
every day, Windows started causing problems with constant updates, and
after one of the updates, the system failed to boot. I tried
everything I knew (it's not the first time this has happened), but it
didn't work, so I decided to switch to NixOS. As I mentioned, the
change is significant, but for now, I still have access to a laptop
that is still on Windows, so I'm combining the two. And Tim is of
great help, I wouldn't be able to make this change alone.

About transitionning to NixOs, you talk about your computer for
everyday's work ?
I've never seen NixOs used as a desktop main setup, mainly for
getting reproducible environment as an alternative to docker on
servers. Let us know how it goes, but maybe the jump from windows
to Nix is high ?

Re: [QGIS-Developer] Call for Grant Proposals 2024

2024-03-22 Thread Julien Moura (Oslandia) via QGIS-Developer

Dear Anita, PSC and devs,

Just to let you know that I posted my QEP just now
(https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/295) and
realized (thanks Julien Cabièces!) that the deadline was yesterday evening.
I'd like to tell you it's because I'm in a time zone where days are 36
hours long, but short of creating envy, it's just poor memorization on
my part and a preconceived idea that a deadline is necessarily on a Friday.

Sorry, I hope it can still be taken into account for grant. If not, too
bad, "c'est le jeu ma pov lucette" as we haven't been saying for a long
time, even in France.

Have a good deadline days,
Regards,
Julien

Re: [QGIS-Developer] GSoC 2024 proposal : QGIS improve the graphical modeler UI and UX

2024-02-22 Thread Julien Moura (Oslandia) via QGIS-Developer

Hi Valentin,

It's a really nice and refreshing initiative, congrats! It's really
ambitious, hope that becomes real or at least drives the future work. As
mentioned by Régis, the current ETL ecosystem situation is favorable to
the emergence of an open source ETL, and QGIS Processing is clearly a
good candidate.

Do you need someone, organization or company to support you?

See you in Grenoble to talk about urban planning and QGIS :).

Regards,
Julien

Hi Valentin,

That's quite an impressive proposal!
I could not agree more with you about the need to have a better
design, UX, and UI for the modeler.
However, as Nyall already pointed out, you can be sure that the
schedule will largely shift seeing the amount of work/features, and I
also would advise to drop quality of life changes, the proposal still
remaining very attractive.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Grenoble next month :-)

Hi qgis developers

My name is Valentin Buira, I'm a french student in urban planning and
I'm interested in participating in this year Google Summer of Code to
improve the graphical modeler.

In particular I am interested in improving the user interface(UI) and
user experience (UX) of the graphical modeler based on my previous
experience with other node-based applications. If you are familiar
with Blender the inspiration will be obvious to you but I tried to
adapt to the identity and features of Qgis like the expression engine.

You can find the proposal at the url :
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iXHMTylTHLljfHBITfuIfJzi4_4hpQifEvj5GkM8OCc/edit?usp=sharing

So far I am happy with my proposal but I'm looking for feedback and
suggestions, and also tips on the technical feasibility and the
schedule of the proposal.

On a side note, I will be attending the local code sprint in Grenoble
the 26 mars. Where I will also discuss this proposal in person.

Best regards,
Valentin Buira
