[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer Report

2024-06-14 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello all,

Below is a summary of my work for the past week, along with plans for the
upcoming week, and a couple of requests for assistance.

New Pull Requests:

   - SQL Results Window Clipboard

   - OGC API Source type for vector and raster

I am currently working on updating the documentation related to point cloud
data:

   - https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/issues/7755
   - https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/issues/9119

Plans for Next Week

Point Cloud documentation: I plan to finalize the updates for the point
cloud documentation.

Grammar and spelling checks for the QGIS Website: I will continue working
on editing the QGIS website content for grammar and spelling accuracy. I
have already begun this task and will focus on completing it.

*Requests for Assistance:*

Doctest Issue: The doctest in the documentation repository is failing. It
appears that this may be due to outdated Python versions. I'm not very
familiar with resolving this issue. If someone from the development team
could assist in updating the necessary versions or provide guidance, it
would be greatly appreciated.

PR Reviews: If anyone has time to review the open pull requests,
particularly the SensorThings
 PR, it would be very
helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Have a nice weekend.
Selma

Re: [QGIS-Developer] Question about missing WMS TIME parameter in the documentation

2024-03-27 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello Jorge,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I must admit, I wasn't aware
of the omission of the WMS TIME parameter from the QGIS Server
documentation. My contributions to the server manual have been minimal, so
I might not be the best person to provide a historical perspective on this
matter. Harrissou, however, might have more insights regarding this.
I see that there is an open issue concerning the WMS TIME parameter:

If you could, please open an issue on the documentation repository
detailing the need for the inclusion of the TIME parameter. An explanation
or example of how this parameter is used would be particularly helpful, at
least for me :D

And of course, if you're comfortable making the change yourself, please
feel free to do so. Either way, thank you for pointing this out.

Regards,
Selma.

Hola Julien,

Your remark makes sense. I'll continue taking screenshots on Windows,
that's not a problem. As for using QGIS on Nix, it seems very good to me
for now, and I generally like the environment. In any case, I'll continue
to make screenshots that are suitable for average QGIS users, and I will
continue my work on Windows while simultaneously testing the Nix
environment. Thanks for your feedback.

Selma.

Hello Régis,

Thank you for your response and interest in my transition from Windows to
NixOS. The change is indeed significant, but I didn't do it alone. Tim
helped me set up the system. The thing is, on my PC where I work every day,
Windows started causing problems with constant updates, and after one of
the updates, the system failed to boot. I tried everything I knew (it's not
the first time this has happened), but it didn't work, so I decided to
switch to NixOS. As I mentioned, the change is significant, but for now, I
still have access to a laptop that is still on Windows, so I'm combining
the two. And Tim is of great help, I wouldn't be able to make this change
alone.

Selma.

Hello all,
Here is the report for this week.

Open pull requests:
Raster image symbol
MS SQL Server connection details
 - this PR fixes
three issues:

   - #6443
   - #6644
   - #3063

Style database -
still open and it needs some fixes after review
Raster identify results
 - also still open,
but requires some bigger changes in the Working with raster chapter

This week, I dedicated some time to investigating older issues, attempting
to determine whether they still need to remain open. During this process, I
came across the issue titled Add a check box in the sublayer selection
dialog to control whether system and internal tables should be shown
, it seems like a
small change (in documentation), but I'm having trouble finding the
"sublayer selection dialog." If someone could explain what that means and
how I can access it, I would appreciate it.

Have a nice weekend,
Selma.

 Hello everyone,

This week (and last week at the OSGeo meeting Vienna) I was working on
documentation for 3D Tiles in QGIS. I used blog posts from Lutra Consulting
and North Road websites as the main source for the documentation, also I
followed video tutorials and Martin Dobias explained 3D tiles to me while
we were in Vienna. I'm planning to create a draft version in my GitHub
repository (I will send you a link) so you can check it out. This is my
first time creating a whole new chapter for documentation so I'm trying to
be as detailed as possible. I also prepared screenshots for other chapters
updates related to 3D tiles/Scene (browser, data source management etc.).

 PR from this week:
 Vector tiles properties

In this PR I updated chapter with Source and Rendering properties, but
I wasn't able to recreate OpenStreetMap landuse layer with all rules (like
image that is in the docs now), so if someone has advice on how to do that,
please let me know. I was using tiles from
 https://cloud.maptiler.com/tiles/.

 Have a nice weekend,
 Selma.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer

2023-11-17 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer

In this PR I updated chapter with Source and Rendering properties, but I
wasn't able to recreate OpenStreetMap landuse layer with all rules (like
image that is in the docs now), so if someone has advice on how to do that,
please let me know. I was using tiles from https://cloud.maptiler.com/tiles/
.

Have a nice weekend,
Selma.

Re: [QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer Report

2023-10-06 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hi all,

This week, I dedicated my efforts to gaining a deeper understanding of the
QGIS project and community, as well as exploring ways to enhance our
documentation workflow.
I recognized the need for faster communication among active contributors
within the context of QGIS documentation. To address this, I created a
chatroom on Fluffy Chat (Matrix). If you'd like to join the chatroom,
please add me (@selmaaa:matrix.org), and I will manually invite you. Fluffy
Chat does not allow sending a single invite to all, so this step is
necessary...

Although I did not create new PRs this week, I was actively involved in the
following issue:

This issue focuses on expression functions, a topic that I had not explored
extensively in QGIS before. I dedicated a significant amount of time to
understand and create visual examples for expression functions.

I was also fixing screenshots for this PR:

Have a nice weekend,
Selma.

Re: [QGIS-Developer] Download troubles? Download in the background?

2023-10-03 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello,

In my opinion, the recent improvements made to the download page appear to
be quite user-friendly and I don't have anything to add on that.

Now moving on to the support page
, it would be helpful
to begin with a friendly introduction to clarify the nature of support
within QGIS.org. In my opinion, it's important to emphasize that QGIS.org,
as a part of the open-source ethos, primarily relies on community
collaboration and does not offer direct, individualized support. Instead,
we encourage users to actively engage with our community through mailing
lists and communication channels...

So, my suggestion for the text would be:

"Welcome to our support page! At QGIS.org, we're all about fostering a
collaborative and supportive community for our users. While we don't offer
direct, one-on-one support ourselves, we've created a space where you can
connect with others who share your passion for QGIS.

We've set up mailing lists and various communication channels where you can
engage with fellow users and our dedicated developers. However, we
understand that there may be times when you require personalized assistance
or wish to explore more comprehensive support options. For such cases, you
can contact one of the support providers offering commercial support
."

I believe clarification of QGIS.org support will reduce questions about
donations and expected support...

Regarding the donation page, the description provided by Jean-François
Bourdon seems clear and effective.

Greetings,

Selma.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation writer - Report

2023-09-01 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hi all,

This week, Tim and I created new tasks for me to work on. We started with
the oldest open issues. You can check my project board
, and
if you think that something else should be there, please let me know.
Considering that those issues have been open for too long and some of them
are not quite clear to me at first sight, I spent most of my time this week
trying to figure out what needs to be done and I think I'm ready for next
week.

Anyways, here are PRs that are still open:

   - "Add GIS File" action (Metasearch plugin)

   - Updated screenshots for Module 10. Online Resources (Training Manual)

   - Policy choice added in the Layer Properties

Pull requests that are merged this week:

   - https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8462
   - https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8441

Have a nice weekend,
Selma.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer Report

2023-08-04 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello everyone,

PR's for this week:

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8421
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8422

In this week's report I don't have many PRs, as I was focused on the
Training Manual as a self-learning process.
Today I finished the Training manual and there were a lot of things that I
didn't have a chance to try and learn before (GRASS GIS for example), so it
was quite useful for me. I believe my knowledge is now more relevant for
QGIS documentation open issues.

Plan for the next week is to create PR's for things that I noticed in the
User Manual, also complete reading and doing examples from the User Manual,
so the next report probably will have more content and information.

Have a nice weekend,
Selma.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer - Report

2023-07-28 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello everyone, hope you are doing fine.

As I already inform you, every Friday I will send you a report where I will
explain what I have been working on.

This week I created a couple of changes in this order:

1. Changes created in chapter 5. Getting Started related to issue #3922 -
missing screenshots
( Tim reviewed and merged this PR)

2. Changes created in chapter 6. Working with Project files

   - *section 6.1.* Oracle database was not mentioned so I added that.
   https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8410
   - *section 6.3*. Sentence: "Georeferencing the image is possible" in the
generating output section was a bit confusing in my opinion so I changed it
to "Including georeference information is possible..."
   https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8411

3. Changes created in chapter 7. QGIS GUI

   - *subsection 7.1.1.* Project menu also missed Oracle infos
   https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8412
   - *subsection 7.1.2.* note that Edit menu options are available when
   Editing mode in ON https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/8413

Those are my changes for now, the goal is to dig deep into documentation
and fix or update everything from smallest issues to bigger ones. Also, I'm
getting familiar with the writing style that Harrissou uses when he is
writing documentation so I can follow that exacte style and keep
documentation in one tone.
If you think that this report should have more (or less) descriptions,
please let me know.

Looking forward to your feedback,
Selma.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Documentation Writer - Introduction

2023-07-21 Thread Selma Vidimlic via QGIS-Developer
Hello to everyone.

My name is Selma, and I'd like to introduce myself as a QGIS funded
Documentation Writer. I have a background in geography and GIS, and I've
been using QGIS for a while, so I'm excited to contribute to this project
and community.
My intention is to send you a report every Friday to let you know about the
most recent contribution I made. I hope you all agree with me; if not,
please let me know, and if you have any suggestions, please send them to me.

For now I have set up my environment and I will start with User Manual and
Training Manual and hopefully next Friday I will send you a report with all
changes and updates that I made for the week.

I think QGIS to be a really essential and truly fantastic project, and I'm
thrilled to be a part of it.

Kind regards,
Selma.
