Hi,

Yes, I have tested also and the plugins on that folder be one magically
installed on all profiles. Didn't test on a network folder, but should work.

I believe there's a reason for this. The QGIS_PLUGINPATH main idea is for
developer automatically load plugins under development, so if you are
developing a already installed plugin, the dev one would take precedence.

It works like a charm! It also works when calling qgis_process so it means
there is a way to use plugins outside the default profile (see
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/44783). You made my day!

It seems that if there is any duplicated plugin (same name) in the default
profile location and in the directory specified by QGIS_PLUGINPATH, only the
latter will be loaded. It don't think it's bad, but I think this behaviour
should be noted.

Regarding this subject,

I have found this on PyQGIS Cookbook:

Note

By setting QGIS_PLUGINPATH to an existing directory path, you can add this path
to the list of paths that are searched for plugins.

So, I am guessing that one could set a folder with plugins in a network
location and then setup this environment variable in each machine to have all
the plugins available on all machines.

Just guessing, I didn't have the time to test it out.

[QGIS-Developer] Boundless (docs) & Central provisioning of QGIS plugins...

2021-09-15 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde
Hi,

Got a question from a GIS person from a small company, asking me the easiest
way to 'provision my QGIS users with some base plugins, so they all start with
the same set of plugins'...

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not aware that we provide some 'startup
dir to be copied to...' or so.

BUT I found these (old?) Boundless docs (with QGIS2 code):
https://boundless-desktop.readthedocs.io/en/latest/system_admins/init_scripts.html
and
https://boundless-desktop.readthedocs.io/en/latest/system_admins/globalsettings.html

Found that:
- QGIS_INIT_SCRIPTS_DIRECTORY is not found in any QGIS source (anymore?)..
- but PYQGIS_STARTUP is [0]
- that is working
- using: qgis.utils.pluginMetadata('myplugin', 'version') I find the plugin
version
- so updating the Boundless scripts should work?

Question:
- anybody better idea's?
- anybody knows WHO is 'holder' of the "Copyright © 2017 Boundless Spatial,
Inc."
Because it would be very valuable to the community if we could incorporate this
information/code in our Documentation.

Else we can of course try to write some docs ourselves?

Regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde
